People are always asking where to get good Chinese food. I always recommend China Chef in South Milwaukee. The food is fresh and hot and portions are generous. Service is prompt and with a smile. Chef Wang is a renowned chef from China. My favorite dish is the Seafood Double Fried Noodles. It could feed me for 5 days. I ate so much and barely left a dent. You get noodles that are crispy fried on top and tender underneath. It is piled with probably a pound of perfectly cooked shrimp. You also get imitation crab, scallops, pounded flat seasoned chicken, pea pods, tiny corn cobs, carrots and more. I can't say enough about this dish! My boyfriend adores the tender and spicy General Tso's chicken over rice. We come here again and again! read more

I have not been here in a few years and wanted to give it a try. Placed a Togo order went and picked it up once we got home the order was incorrect, went back and tried to explain to them what was wrong it took 3 different people to understand I was missing rice and I had parts of someone else's order, the food was cold, no flavor at all, rice was hard not fully cooked, I have no idea if I paid for the parts of the order I got and took back because they don't speak English and I could not say what was wrong With my order! I will not be back read more

Its almost painful to write after going here for over 10 years, but I guess after long enough, quality was bound to change. We've been ordering from China Chef for years, always getting delivery, and never had problems. Occasionally the food was a little lower quality but just left it as a bad day. Today after ordering they called us and said they won't deliver to us. When my wife asked them why, they said "the driver doesn't want to drive that far". After picking up the food, I'll be honest and say it was lower quality than normal. More chewy than usual as well. Finally, I will make sure to note for anyone ordering online. I found that the website doesn't take payment but rather gives them the card numbers and they type it in. I found out once when I put the wrong expiration date and they called. Just a security concern that I noticed. read more

Just tried this place for the first time. Food was amazing. We got take out. Spicy tea chicken was so good! Lots of variety of vegetables and the tender white meat not breaded. We also got the doughnut bread which was very good. Definitely will return. read more

Been eating there off and on0 for the daily buffet that they have and the food is very good. Food is tasty, hot and delicious. Service is also good, with everyone being courteous, fast and welcoming. read more

I placed an order for delivery before reading all of the negative reviews, so I was expecting a disappointing meal. I placed my online order at 4:05 and much to my surprise it was at my door at 4:45! Everything was hot & packaged well. I dug into the donuts right away, they were soft & warm. I ordered beef with vegetables, which was flavorful with tender beef. On the constructive side, the hot & sour soup didn't have much consistency to it, but the flavor was decent. Overall, I was pleased with my meal! read more

China Chef - Beef with Vegetables (I added sambal on top) - Chinese Near Me - South Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Gave it one more chance today. Definitely not the same as years ago. The rice was crunchy and the lo mein tasted like it was cooked in old oil. Their chicken was cold and fatty...had to spit it out into my napkin. The buffet area was a sloppy mess, and very un-appetizing to look at. Unfortunately, we will not ever go back. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I placed an order for delivery, and two hours (and three phone calls) later the food finally arrived. After an hour an 15 minutes of waiting for my order, I made my first call to the restaurant. I was told my delivery had just left and was on its way; however, I waited 45 minutes before my food (cold) was finally delivered (it's not a 45 minute drive to my house from the restaurant). The person I spoke to on the phone was rude and basically told me I should have just ordered for pickup, begging the question why the restaurant would offer delivery if they didn't want to deliver. I would not recommend to anyone. read more

its truly hard find food places out in Oak Creek but we Ordered lunch for work and the food was horrible. We called to complain and they refused to do anything! Ordered Mongolian beef combo and it was loaded with onions and hardly any beef. The beef was tough with no flavor! The vegetable fried rice had hardly any vegetables in it. We wasted 40.00 on absolutely nothing! Customer service was horrible. read more

Food was served hot, egg rolls were small and they should add bread or some type of dinner rolls with your dinner.

My hubby and I tend to go here for lunch brunch. When we leave, we kind of ask each other why we went. So that's not a good sign. I'd probably give it more of a 2.5. The place itself is old inside. It is carpeted (gross-ish) and even the vinyl table covers have rips. But service is kind and pleasant always. The food is ok. This last time, the buffet was not supplied well with food. It wasn't that busy, but they had many empty trays. We normally like the idea of just picking and choosing from lots of different options. But if the bins are empty, there is not as big of a choice. Normally I would say the food is just average and it's convenient for us location wise. But recently we are more and more "meh" about the food. We will most likely take a break from them and see if when we do return, we get a better experience food wise.(So that we can look past the carpet.) read more

I have always bought food from here but the food that I got last night was absolutely horrible. The chicken in my General TSO was real grainy and couldn't even chew it. The chicken chop suet had no flavor and was terrible as well. I will never buy food from them again. read more

I walked into China chef for the first time in maybe ten years today. I was immediately greeted by a clean and spacious interior with a (presumably) Chinese flair to it. The speakers were quietly playing flute music that set the mood really well. Looking at the nicely sized menu, I decided to order the Garlic pork, chicken Lo mein, and a white Zinfandel wine. Simply put, everything was excellent! The garlic pork had a really nice spice and tangy ness, while the Chicken lo mein was very salty and savory. I wish the chicken had a bit more flavor, but it isn't a deal breaker. The wine on the other was pretty good as well, and complimented the meal nicely. Not to mention the portions were great! Definitely had plenty to take home with me. Overall I was pleasantly surprised, and am proud to say this place might be my favorite Chinese spot at the moment. read more

Really tasty food. Service is very good and friendly. Great lunch buffet with nice choices.

This review is only for the Singapore noodles, which is the only thing I have had from here. It's really good and definitely worth the drive to South Milwaukee! Pick it up on your way to Grant Park beach! read more

You cannot find better Chinese food for the price! I'd suggest going closer to when they open, or it can get really full in there. They have extremely quick service when they bring your tea, fill your drink, and clear your plates. Each time I've been there (which was twice a month when I lived in town) the employees have been so helpful and kind. The space is a little tight when you're adding to your plate by the buffet, which is why I suggest getting there early. Street parking. I suggest trying the Crab Rangoon and Honey Chicken! read more

Solid AYCE lunch buffet option in an area of few options. My co-workers and I ventured here after our first choice that day was unexpectedly closed. I remember this building from when I used to work down the block in the early 90's. You would never know it from the current decor, bu this used to be Dick's Finer Foods, a small grocery store built around the butcher department. I'm glad to see that this building has been repurposed. The lunch buffet is three tables in size with one of them being desserts and couple different soups. It may now seem like a lot, but the selection is big enough to satisfy just whatever you might be hungry for. This size also guarantees freshness. This place is pretty popular and the staff does a great job keeping the buffet topped off. Service has always friendly and the food has been "comforting" which is as much as you can ask for a AYCE Chinese buffet in South Milwaukee. read more

HORRIBLE, AWFUL, TERRIBLE experience. If I could rate this zero stars I would.Ordered Garlic Broccoli and Honey Chicken which everyone on yelps seems to rave about. Drove to pick it up and when I got home the honey chicken was so overcooked and dry it was inedible and the garlic broccoli was overly steamed broccoli which was super mushy with some pieces of garlic on top. That's unlike ANY garlic dish I've ever had at any chinese restaurants, it usually comes with a sauce. Completely bland and tasteless. I called and explained our issues and they told me to come back to talk. Upon arriving, there was a very rude man behind the counter who didn't seem care that I didn't like the food. He didn't offer to remake anything even though both dishes were inedible. Why ask me to come back if you will not fix the issues? Needless to say I will never be going back!! read more

Disappointed in China chef Ordered shrimp lo mein Beef mushrooms, egg fu yung also egg rolls Received order call the restaurant, told them I was not happy they did not use lo mein noodles, they use linguine noodles. The lady said she's worked there 10 years and that those are the only noodles they serve. I told her they were not lo mein noodles. She is not Asian she doesn't know the difference. Lo mein noodles are three times thicker than a spaghetti noodle completely different texture, and a little bit more expensive than regular pasta. I understand all pasta is expensive.. just a sorry was all I received. Not very happy. Clearly people must love them because they have a very expensive Buffet. I spend lots for carry out. Don't take my word for it. Please go in and ask for lo mein noodles with whatever meat or seafood, you like form your own opinion. I paid $56 plus tip New to so Milwaukee 6 blocks from them. Very disappointed. Christmas Eve buffet was cold. Informed staff and they swapped food and offered to microwave the plate. The swapped food was also cold. Holiday buffet was expensive and not worth it. Have been to the restaurant since they opened. Will not be going back . read more

Some of the kindest people you'll ever meet, along side the BEST Chinese food I've ever had. And the lunch buffet is a good price.

When you walk-in, the hostess/waitress has the personality of a dead fish, which sets the tone for lunch service. We had the buffet, the price was reasonable, the food mediocre and the service inattentive. The other waitress had a much better personality and at tentativeness, wish we had her. Oh yea, the coffee was cold. read more

My favorite Chinese restaurant in all of Milwaukee area. Huge variety of dishes and reasonable price. My go-to is Empress chicken. I've never been disappointed with any of their chicken dishes. Buffet is a good price and has many different choices. Recommend this to anyone looking for good and cheap Chinese. Also, the delivery driver is very, very charismatic! read more

I work pretty close to this place and was dragged there by co-workers on a Friday for the lunch buffet. I had zero expectations going into it because well... I've had Chinese food in China and you just can't top it. I was pleasantly surprised though, enough to order carry-out on the weekends. The China Chef is better than other Chinese places I have been to in Milwaukee. My recommendations are to go for the Empress or Sichuan Chicken and maybe a side order of Asparagus. The dinner combinations, in American Chinese restaurant fashion, are HUGE and served with a side of fried rice and an eggroll. We order 2 dinner combos for 2 people and eat it for 4 or 5 meals - total cost about $18. It would be great if China Chef had more Sichuan food on the menu. I love spicy food and most of the items I've tried at the buffet are pretty mild. I'm sure it's just the chef cooking for the palates in the South Milwaukee area. Someday I'll try and request some spicy fish! I would also love to see the chef give jiao zi, bao zi, jian bing, or even hot pot a try! The service is pretty good and FAST. I live about 6 miles away from the place and order as I'm walking out the door. The food is always ready to go. The lunch buffet gets pretty busy (at least on Friday) because of the close proximity to Bucyrus. Howver, even with the large lunch crowd I've never had to wait. They keep stuff going to the buffet pretty quick. If you are in the South Milwaukee, Oak Creek, Cudahy area I'd give this place a shot. If you are in Northern Milwaukee somewhere I would not make the trip down. You can probably find something similar much closer to home. read more

Anything that I have ever tried from China chef has been delicious! They have THE BEST egg rolls. I personally love the sweet & sour chicken, chicken fried rice or chicken lo mein. We have a large family & usually get honey chicken, orange beef, egg foo young & twice cooked pork too. read more

My boyfriend and I order from here regularly.. At least once a week. We love to eat and we love China Chef... It's what binds us together. Their crab Rangoon is the best I've ever had... And I've had lots of crab Rangoon in my day. China chefs crab Rangoon is not over fried, and is constructed into an envelope of cream cheese and crabby crab goodness! Ugh. I'm drooling just thinking about it and while I'm eating it. General tso or sesame chicken is our go to. Tonight tho I had the curry chicken ... And I will keep on ordering the curry chicken until I am dead. A new year, a new diet! And Looking for something less drenched in sauce. The chicken was all white meat and the curry flavor was delicious, subtle and not spicy.. At all. I didn't ask for spicy anyway but if you prefer spicy, just ask. Chicken, white onion, carrot, mushroom .. Rice and curry sauce ... Food coma. Night night. So! Hands down,,,China chef is THE Chinese place in the South Milwaukee area. We love you China chef. Keep up the good work! read more

We were shocked. We heard good things. The food was a little over priced but eh, a must try for delivery. Sadly, the food was AWFUL!!! We thought paying a little more would be better. Nope! 50$ went straight in the trash and we ended up making a frozen pizza. We will never go back. Sad cuz I had gone there a few years ago and the food tasted really good from the buffet. Very disappointed in taste and quality. do better!! Your meat is like mushy fat. The cheese rangoons were chewy, not crispy and very hard to eat. Everything sucked!! Very Irritated that I even have to put one star. read more

I judge Chinese restaurants by 1 and only 1 dish. Their sweet and sour shrimp. Unfortunately, China Chef has failed. They supply the run-of-the-mill "ring" of heavily battered shrimp with separate dipping sauce. By the time you get through 2 of them, the breading is soggy on the rest. The red dipping sauce has unidentified black specks in it. The white rice they served was neither fresh nor hot. The egg drop soup was cold by the time we got home - a whole 6 minutes away - so neither my husband nor I touched it. The fried wonton skins that come with the soup tasted like rancid oil. Change your frying oil! My husband got chicken lo mein which was OK. He threw out half of it and complained of a stomach ache the next day. I am beginning to believe that Milwaukee just doesn't have great food. read more

My husband and I just ordered two General Tso platters from China Chef...and my husband found a BLOODY BANDAID cooked into his meal. We called to complain and was only offered a free meal, not even compensation for the meal we will no longer eat. This is horrible, disgusting and just wrong. Your cook should be fired and you should be ashamed of your service. We will NEVER come back and will make sure everyone is aware of this. This is absolutely horrifying. read more

First of all, the delivery was a lot quicker than expected. I hadn't had Chinese food in many, many years, and had the idea that I didn't like it. But, one night, my daughter and i decided to give Cina Chef a try. I decided to try the Cashew Chicken, which was very good! My daughter had the General Tso's chicken. Yummmmm!!! She let me try a couple of bites of it, and I realized that I made a new favorite!!! Everything else that came with our meal, was delicious, too! We've already been back there twice! read more

I've had numerous problems with this restaurant. Firstly, I've had items forgotten from my order. Having egg foo young with no gravy is depressing. Having one of the vegetarian dishes completely missing for your wife who can't eat meat isn't a picnic. Not coming back to deliver the missing items, and instead offering to somehow "remember for the next time to give it to [me] for free, because we're too busy to come back" is ridiculous. The quality of the food varies greatly, which is my other complaint. Crab rangoon sometimes comes with just cream cheese in it. Egg rolls sometimes come with only bean sprouts in them. Egg drop soup is sometimes orange (and often comes without the little crisps). And chicken dishes can sometimes be soggy, sometimes be crispy. I've been told "well, we ran out and made due" or "well, that's how it usually is." Delivery is timely, and the food is inexpensive, but the quality and consistency just aren't there for me. read more

Surprislying good! Enjoyed every last bite. We over order Chinese food and did not have one complaint.

Their orange chicken was fantastic. We also got the crispy duck, which was really good.

I ordered take out I didt get the right food the damm chicken was way to over cook in. The past it's good now I'm never going back.

My husband and I ordered delivery from here. I opened my meal (thought it was mine) and started eating. My husband opened his and then we realized they gave us the wrong order. We called them and told them and they said they will come back to bring us our correct order. When the delivery guy came to our door, he had our order, but then instructed us to bag up everything he originally dropped off and he took it with him even though I had already started eating some of the food. Why would you take the food that has already been in someone's home??? What were they going to do with it? Take it the people who had originally ordered it?? WE WILL NEVER ORDER FROM HERE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

NEVER AGAIN!! They messed up both entrees! Chicken was tough and the sauce was Very salty, (maybe MSG). One had breaded chicken and it was not supposed to be breaded.
