It's small which is great not a lot of commotion to disturb your dining experience. The wait staff is nice and quick to get you what you need. The food is very good and not overly expensive. And you will most likely be taking some home with you... the only thing I didn't care for and will not be using again is their bathroom not very clean so go before you get there. read more

Absolutely Horrible, 1st time ordering asian in years so i had ordered sampling of many things, according to menu total of $54, but it showed up at $63, i paid $68 total including tip, they did not bring soy sauce(i had made sure to tell them i wanted extra sauce) Wings showed up Cold(not even warm) instread of shrimp dumplings, i got pork which i don't eat, and sweet/sour sauce cups were open and had spilled all over inside of bag. so they overcharged, did not receive correct food, and what arrived was cold. unbelievable, if you are from restaraunt and want to get a hold of me to at least attempt to fix this, my email is habusharkh79@gmail.com so u know this isn't a fake reveiw read more

I guess my experience was uncommon. i got delivery and the order was wrong so when i called them they were rude and told me not to touch any of the food cause they were sending a manager to my house. (Just so you know we ordered pizza and we were cleaning up after dinner when they finally showed up) So 45 min later some kid showed up and he was complaining about working for the company "because the woman answering the phone has a boyfriend that works there and he gets all the deliveries..." It was a circus! anyways they brought me cold food the second time and refused to refund and take the food back. so we will not be ordering from them anymore. read more

What a pleasant surprise! I'm new to living in Des Moines and have had some mediocre Chinese delivery experiences so far, but China Chef was a real treat. Ordered dinner for my fiancee, brother, and I tonight and our food was wonderful. I had the Mongolian Beef and would highly recommend it. Presentation is about what you would expect from typical delivery food, but the flavor far surpasses it. Delivery took a little longer than quoted but was well worth the wait. Ordered kung bao chicken and shrimp, pepper steak, egg rolls, wontons, crab rangoon and hot and sour soup. Everything arrived very fast. Quoted me 45-60 minutes, only took 25 minutes. Everything was hot, fresh, and satisfying. Good size portions, good flavor consistently and friendly service. I've never had a negative experience here. I always order delivery and have never been inside the restaurant so I can't speak to how eat-in service is. I always have enough leftovers for a midnight snack or lunch the next day. This is my favorite Chinese food in Des Moines. There are never a lot of people here and I don't know why because the food is wonderful! The service is always very helpful. I try to make myself get something new to try everytime and I have not had anything that was less than great! I love Mongolian Beef and Beef and Broccoli. Their hot and sour soup is great and I love the egg drop as well. The décor is lacking, but it's a family-run place and they are working hard to please. I read all these good reviews about their take-out, so I decided to try it. I called and was immediately put on hold, which is typically not a big deal. Then once they were back on, I told them I'd like to place an order for delivery. They said the wait time was about an hour and a half. I still said that was fine since I wasn't too hungry yet. Then when I told him my address, he informed me that they did not deliver there. I said, "Oh. Okay. Where do you deliver then?" and then they hung up on me. I looked it up on the map and it told me they are about 10 minutes away from where I live. I was disappointed that they had such bad customer service. To not deliver to me is one thing, but to hang up? That's quite another. read more

I'm from out of town so maybe they do Chinese different here but this, in my opinion was terrible. I had the sesame chicken which granted, I got it to go so it's always going to be a little soggy but there was three times the breading to chicken and it was soggy like it'd been soaked in water and I was only five minutes away. The egg drop soup was completely loaded with black pepper so it had no flavour except for black pepper and I had an order of crab Rangoon which is my favourite and I threw half of it away because it was almost inedible. The atmosphere leaves a bit to be desired, but our food and the service was excellent! Lunch was a bargain at $6.95, and the waiter ensured that our water glasses were never empty. On our visit, my Orange Chicken was great--spicier and more flavorful than the sticky sweet Panda Express junk most of us are used to. Highly recommended. Other diners enjoyed the Sesame Chicken and the Garlic Chicken. Good egg drop soup and sides. I'm normally not an egg roll fan, but I loved these. I walked to China chef which is not far at all but when we got the food it was so small I got beef and mushrooms the rice was the smallest portion the crab Rangoon was really crunchy and it was so over priced then they forgot a rice and we called and they were very rude. I'm only going to say this once. This is the worst Chinese restaurant I've ever eaten at. The service that my mother and I received was horrible. First of all, when the staff got my order wrong they STILL made me pay the delivery charge. After I was already charged 27 dollars. That's 9.95 extra from what I first ordered. Second of all, when the delivery man got to my house the second time he couldn't even face me when I was telling what an asshole he was being to my mother and I. And that he got my order wrong and scammed me out of my food. And when we first called back to reorder the food he hung up on me. So finally I told him off and slammed the door on his face. The next day I got food poisoning and my doctor says what I have is similar to Ecoli. Needless to say, please don't let this happen to your family. Don't waste your time nor your money on this "restaurant". This is the most grossed out I've ever been by Chinese food and the people who make it. read more
