I live just 2 miles away so do take out at least once per month. Food has always been good or very good. I recent months .... they got very very cheap with ingredients. I ordered the Dragon and Phoenix that is described on their menu as ... Sliced chicken breast, jumbo shrimp, in chef sauce. What is got was four medium-size shrimp, 4-5 shredded thin chicken and 90% sliced celery... yes 90% celery.... filled the entire container I took it back, asked for a refund, and was told by "chef" ... no refund, this is how we cook it. Ordered takeout from here! The prices are excellent when compared to other similar restaurants in the area and they were open later, which fit both of my criteria. Overall, the food was decent. My only comment would be that there wasn't a TON of flavor to the food. It was less flavorful than I am accustomed to with takeout Chinese food, but, that being said the taste and flavor were still good. I am vegan and was able to order veggie fried rice without egg which was great. I also had a veggie delight and I didn't like the sauce much. I will definitely order from here again, and will order the veggie fried rice again, but will try a different vegetable entree than the veggie delight next time. It's difficult to express how uninspiring the food was at China Chef Chinese. The portions were enormous but not worth the calories. In fact the food was so uninspiring that the majority of it was fed to the garbage disposal. The pork dumplings were the high point but the pork was more sausage than pork. The dumpling sauce was watery with no hint of either vinegar or chili oil. It was too thin to stick to the dumpling. The hot and sour soup was neither hot nor sour. The texture was good but the taste was just plain boring. As with the dumpling sauce, the hot and sour soup showed no hint of neither white pepper, chili oil, and certainly no Jinjiang. The beef and broccoli was similar, flavorless. The broccoli was cut too large, the beef was rubbery, and the sauce just plain watery. read more

There should be a no star option. This place sucks. I literally threw out $30 worth of food that my dogs wouldn't eat. They asked a lady to give back egg rolls, in exchange for drinks to go with her meal. The sauce on the General Tso chicken tasted like its been cooked in the same pot with out cleaning for 7 years and has scorched layer lining the pan. This place is good in a pinch. I love the pupu platter to start and split with others. My favorites are on the chef specialty menu. Great price for the content. I can't complain about the flavor. I work nearby and found these guys randomly while searching for something new with Yelp and so glad I did. Ignore the dive exterior -- or embrace it -- the food is stellar and it's at a killer price. I hope more people find this place because the food is sooo good. I've been through a good handful of the menu items trying to figure out what I like and so far everything is a winner. I highly recommend the "Special Combination Plates" as the best deals, especially for lunch. My favorites are the blackened chicken and the cashew chicken. Their sesame chicken in the larger portions is also top notch. Extra kudos for using such high quality to-go containers. At these prices they could be forgiven for cheeping out, but they don't. Respectfully disagree with the other reviewers about parking. Bonus points if you can spot on-street parking right outside the front door (pretty astounding for Springhill), but there is also plenty of parking in their parking lot (easily accessible from Mobile St.). read more

I stayed in Mobile area for 2 days; and I ate all my lunch right here. Relatively inexpensive and food is delicious. The guy who took my order was very friendly and he even customized my lunch. This is the reason why I gave this restaurant a 5 star. read more

Tonight my husband and I agreed on Chinese take out for dinner. We ordered the dumplings (#4 steamed), roast pork fried rice (# 11), wonton egg drop soup (#17), and chicken with garlic sauce (#C23). Our total was$18.37 or something close to that. The service was typical of a Chinese place where most people order take out and the customers coming in and out were fairly steady even one hour before closing time. The woman taking orders was nice enough and the food came out quickly, but not too quickly. The dumplings are good but probably better fried (I don't think they had any green onion either). The soup is under seasoned but improves with soy sauce and a little chili sauce. The garlic chicken is not spicy (the menu claims it is), does not taste like garlic at all and is actually rather sweet. The veggies are cooked perfectly though. The rice is just yellow rice with pieces of onion and pork, no other veggies. To end, our sad little fortune cookies were stale and inedible. Don't get me wrong, we were hungry and we chowed down (except for the cookies...those were trash). The best part about this place is the prices and to be honest the food isn't bad, but I imagine there's better Chinese places in this town. read more
