I was in the area and in need of lunch. China Cafe was close by and had a good looking lunch menu so I ordered. The service was excellent although I think beyond a simple order/pickup there might be a small language barrier. But that I ok, I do not mind. The interior though, is very divey, and in need of an update. Again, I dont mind, some of the best stuff comes from dives! And to attest to that my lunch was fresh, hot and delicious. One thing, I ordered a shrimp egg roll and also got a pork egg roll with the meal. They were not marked as to which was which, and I guessed wrong when looking at them, so be aware if anyone has a shellfish allergy. I got the Lunch special with pork egg roll, mixed vegetables (with an upgrade to lo mein). It was great and filling and if I am over here again I will definitely be coming back. read more

China cafe is a long time staple in the okolona area of Louisville. It is Located in bittersweet shopping center off Preston Highway right across from southern high school. This establishment has had a few name changes over the years (use to be called "yummys"). however the menu, food of service has never changed. Is this the best Chinese? No. Does it have best atmosphere or even a great place to dine in? Also no. But they are consistent. They have decent prices and solid Chinese food. My in laws and parents still live in okolona and as long as they order for delivery it's a good place. The inside is kinda janky and raggedy. I've probably been dining here for over 20 years. As teenagers my late brother was obsessed with this place so we would walk here during the summer and I'd watch him eat a egg roll or whatever else he ordered. My most memorable trip there was probably about 5-6 years ago on Christmas night. My family tries to do the Christmas story schtick and eat Chinese food for dinner on Christmas after the busy day winds down. On this Christmas night we was greeted, sat down, and order taken and everything by what had to be an 8 year old. No exaggeration. I finally asked after sitting down "is there an adult here". And the parents were in the back. I learned a bit of knowledge that day as I googled child labor laws. If it is the business owners child then they can legally perform work. So I gained a little Christmas knowledge that night. Overall as stated this is a very middle of the pack place. It obviously has a following though as it has been running a long time. Me personally off experience I'd say go with the chicken lo mein, shrimp fried rice or orange chicken. Those are the three best things I've had there. read more

Oh god. Just thinking of my most recent visit here makes me want to vomit. I was in Okolona vigorously craving some Chinese food, and China Cafe was the closest place to where I was. I walked into what looked like a haunted doctor's office, and I knew I was in trouble. I ordered the Orange chicken with chicken fried rice and an eggroll. As I was waiting for my food, my "Server" walked through the entrance of the building and handed me my food...weird. The eggroll was nasty and the rice tasted like slimy, cold worms. It was easy to tell the chicken was undercooked also, as it resembled bodily organs more than it did poultry. The orange chicken was surprisingly really good, except it didn't taste like orange chicken at all...more like General Tso's. I really really like this fast food Chinese restaurant. I have never ever had anything bad here. So far I've tried bourbon chicken, lo mein, sweet and sour, teriyaki chicken, and even pad Thai. All of them have been good, surprisingly their pad Thai is better than some Thai restaurants. I'm really impressed with their bourbon chicken, while this dish is westernized it still maintains the authentic flavor. A little different in that it's a little runny, but the flavors are there. I don't get the bad reviews. There is a lot worse in Louisville and frankly this isn't one of those places. read more

Found new flyer on my door yesterday so I thought I would give them a try. Called for delivery, flyer said $14 minimum order for delivery and mine came to $15+. This was my first time dining at China Cafe. It is a restaurant that appears to primarily serve the carry out customer. The dining area is small, with a total seating capacity of about 20. During the lunch hour, I was the only dine-in patron today; although there were several who came in to pick up carry out orders. I had the sweet and sour chicken, chicken fried rice, and an egg roll. All were pretty much average for most Chinese restaurants in the area. They do not serve alcohol, and have bottled or canned drinks (no fountain drinks). The food was served relatively quickly and arrived hot, but not scalding (a problem I had at a different restaurant). Prices were reasonable, with my meal (including a bottled Coke) costing a little over $10.00. read more

She asked for vegetable lo mein for herself and had her order repeated back to her, but when it was delivered she was given some sort of seafood lo mein. She can't eat seafood, so called China Cafe back up. They tried to tell her that she had to drive, using her own gas, to fix the mistake that they made, and the person who originally took the order insisted that it was my friend's fault the order was messed up. Can't seem to find any decent Chinese. Didn't expect it to be spectacular but from the reviews i was hoping for more. Fried rice was actually yellow rice with onions, no other veggies. Beef in the beef lo main wasn't too bad, a little chewy. We will keep looking. read more

We were looking for Chinese delivery, so we decided to give this place a try. Ordered fried wontons, crab rangoons, and pork fried rice. We ordered the rice with no vegetables, as I have allergies. The crab rangoons were good, and the wontons were small (maybe half the size of wontons most places I've found) and didn't have a lot of flavor, but were good---LUCKILY, since the rice came with vegetables in it. We thought, "No big deal, we'll give them a call and try to get it fixed." We were WAY off. My husband called them, to tell them of the mistake, and instead of the expected result of they will remake it (we weren't expecting a re-delivery) or refund they instead chose to yell at my husband on the phone and say THEY didn't mess up, and *HE* had. They told him he didn't order the rice without vegetables, and it wasn't their fault, so they weren't fixing it. He remained calm and stated that he had certainly ordered it without vegetables and got nowhere with them. The end result was, we spent $20 for wontons and crab rangoons. NEVER again. My husband and I have food delivered from here about once a week. The staff has always been very kind and friendly. Delivery time has never exceeded 30 minutes, even if told on the phone it may be 45-50. Quality & taste are above average for a quick-serve American-style Chinese restaurant. We have never been inside of the restaurant and thus unable to comment on interior/in-dining experience.
