Chong Qing Hot Pot - Crispy pork hot pot

Located in Atlanta's Chinatown, this was definitly one of the more popular spots to grab food. we…read moreordered the fish dry pot and it was only $13 and enough for 2 people, that is a steal! They did not skimp on the protein, the bottom of the dish is veggies but I don't mind because I love vegetables and it's still very filling. Food came out pretty quick and the workers were courteous. A great place to get a cheap and tasty meal.

First time trying Chong Qing Hot Pot for lunch, located inside Chinatown Market, and walking in…read morehonestly felt like stepping straight into China. The whole setup is like a mini food hall with several authentic Chinese spots to choose from--but Chong Qing is where I landed. I ordered the crispy chicken with garlic sauce and swapped the white rice for a side of house lo mein (yes, it's an upcharge, but worth it). Everything came out on real dishes--not to-go boxes--which I loved. You order and pay at the counter, grab a seat, and they bring the food out to you. Now let's talk about the food... DELICIOUS. The spice level was just right--flavorful with a nice kick, but not overpowering. If you like it hotter, you can definitely add more heat, but I was perfectly satisfied as is. The lo mein was really good too--veggies were fresh with a nice crisp (those onions and carrots were hitting!), and everything tasted well-balanced. Only small note: I wish there was a little more meat in the dish, but it didn't take away from the overall experience. And let me say this--the portion size is VERY generous. I ate until I was full and still had just as much left to take home, which is always a win in my book. All in all, I'll definitely be back to try more. If you're in Chinatown Market and not sure what to pick, Chong Qing Hot Pot is a solid choice. 4/5 stars for me!

I've dined there with Mainland Chinese and they all have enjoyed every dish we've tried. Portions are large so order accordingly and share with the table in true Chinese style! The staff is very friendly and helpful. They can and will guide you to specific menu items if you describe what you're in a mood for or if there's a particular taste you desire. I've never had a bad experience with Sichuan House! As a side note, their take-out is great too!

I've tried a variety of dishes over the years and they've been able to maintain great cooking consistency. Their dining room service used to be high-touch. They lost a couple older, but much more service oriented wait staffers over the years. Whenever you had lobster before, they would offer a new plate in exchange of your existing plate filled with discarded shells. Today, they couldn't care less. But, the biggest detraction now is that they have significantly reduced their portion sizing. It's been a short few months since I've dined in, but I was there this week and ordered a variety of dishes and was hugely DISAPPOINTED that most dishes were HALF-SIZED compared to last year. IT WAS SHOCKING. The menu prices have always been premium pricing but it's even more so today when shrinkflation showed up this past week. It was really a let down because they have raised prices over the years but at least kept the sizing fairly consistent. I was okay paying higher prices for good portions and good service, but that equation simply doesn't add up anymore.

The dining room is basic and loud but I could see people were receiving good care. They boast a high 100 health score and it was very tidy. The food was presented nice for take out but I thought the chicken was tough and the sweet and sour sauce was just not typical. The fried rice was bland. $32 for two dinners. No eggroll or drinks that is additional.

But I found this little spot in a shopping center on the outskirts and they're doing some stuff right. I was drawn in by a wallet-friendly lunch special menu, which yielded a decent variety of vegetable and tofu-based options. My tofu with hot peppers was a very credible Hunan-style dish as the place's name would suggest, with dried hot peppers and a lively black bean sauce. The option for brown or fried rice was no extra charge, or if you did want to pay more you could get lo mein instead. I added a spring roll, which compared to my main dish was a bit overpriced but was tasty and, as with the other dishes around me, nicely plated. Their menu suggests a Malaysian influence as well, and I'd be happy to return for dinner to try something different.

We were a party of 5 and found both the food and the service to be inconsistent. The Food: Most dishes were mediocre or worse. The Three Cups Chicken (1/5) was the worst I've ever had. The Hong Kong Style Shrimp (1/5) was just bland, tasteless fried shrimp. The Lamb with Scallion (2/5) was far too salty. The only "average" dish was the Spicy Beef and Tendon (3/5), but one decent dish can't save a meal this poor. The Service & Billing: The service was quite slow during our visit. We waited a long time for the check and eventually ended up packing our own leftovers and heading to the front counter to pay so we could head out. I was also surprised to see an automatic 20% gratuity added to the bill, especially since it was calculated on the total after tax ($23.07 tip on a $106.80 subtotal). While I understand automatic tips for groups, it felt a bit high due to poor services. There are a lot of great dining spots in the area, but based on this disappointing visit, I'm sure I would not return to this one.
