I've had a problem since moving in with the dryer not drying the clothes well and needing to run multiple cycles. I've had other companies attempt to fix it unsuccessfully and one even recommended a new dryer in the past. The technicians quickly identified the problem and took the time and patience to fix the problem. They explained everything along the way and showed me exactly what was causing the issue. It was clear no one else made an effort to really determine the problem. My next load of clothes dried halfway through the first cycle. I'm so appreciative of the time they spent at a routine cleaning to fix a problem bothering me for years!! The gentlemen were very pleasant and informative. The owner personally came out, inspected everything, and took the time to explain what was going on and reassure me that it could be fixed safely. That personal attention meant a lot during a pretty scary situation. After paying the deposit, they moved quickly, within a week we had an entirely new chimney system installed along with a new cap. The work included removing the old flue tiles and throat damper, installing a UL-listed stainless steel liner with a lifetime warranty, insulating the flue, parging the smoke chamber, and installing a new top tile and top-closing damper system. Everything was clearly explained as they worked, which I really appreciated. The total cost was $5,400, which felt very fair for the amount of work, quality, and peace of mind we received. Very responsive and they kept me updated on the progress. The workers were nice and very professional. I dont know much about chimneys but it seems evreything was done well. I was a little worried because there was a lot of debris (they had to rebuild part of the chimney) when the work was done. And some got into the flower bed that was right under the chimney. They arrived right on time and completed the job quickly without sacrificing quality. Not only were they skilled, but they were also personable and easy to work with. They removed the broken glass from my fireplace, replaced it with new glass in a short amount of time, and thoroughly cleaned up afterward. The fireplace looks like new again. What made the situation even more uncomfortable was the pressure tactics. He attempted to have me sign documents immediately and pushed for payment by check on the spot rather than credit card. I declined. After leaving my property, he returned about ten minutes later, knocked again, and handed me a paper with handwritten invoice scribbled onto it, asking me to sign. When I asked why the proposal was not properly itemized, he told me that if I wanted an itemized estimate, the price would increase by $3,000. Later, when I asked via email whether permits would be obtained, I was told permits would add approximately $1,500 to the cost. After researching local permit costs in DC, that number appeared highly inflated to me (three times). For any homeowner considering major fireplace or chimney work, I strongly recommend requesting: fully itemized written estimates, permit details in writing, code-compliance clarification, and payment transparency before signing anything. John picked up immediately and I told him the scene that was slowly unfolding in our house, and without hesitation, he said, "I can be there today, is that OK?" To say the least, I was floored. I am used to companies giving me a timeline of up to a week to stop by, and here was John saying he'd be here by the time we were on the afternoon news. He came by solo, climbed up the roof, took pictures, and came down and calmly explained to us what we kind of already knew. That our chimney was in BADDDDDDDDD SHAPE. I was told that they were going to clean the fireplace too and left it with cobwebs and the fireplace actually didn't even work. I had to call another company to get it fixed. Just be aware, make sure you pay attention to detail if you do hire these guys, and stay on top of them to complete the job appropriately.
