While in St. Louis, I knew I wanted to eat somewhere that offered food unavailable to me in my…read morehometown. Having never tried xiaolongbao, Tiger Soup Dumplings seemed a natural choice! This small restaurant is located in a very large shopping center. The sign is a little hard to see but when you enter you're greeted with a clean and simple interior with friendly faces and a focused menu. They do pan fried or steamed dumplings (pork, chicken, beef, or shrimp filling), with cucumber salad or broccoli as a side option. I think they might also have boba and fruit tea but given I'd already made a boba trip that day I didn't order any. My husband and I ordered steamed beef and pan fried chicken dumplings to share, plus cucumber salad. The employee gave good recommendations on which meat went best with each cooking style. Our food came out quickly. I enjoyed everything we ordered. The cucumber salad needed a little bit more oomph but it was nothing some of the chili oil on the table couldn't fix. My favorite was the steamed beef dumplings. They were super rich and savory. The chicken dumpling wasn't quite as crispy as I'd expected and the broth almost had a slightly sweet quality to it. It was good, just a little different than what I expected. I'm very glad I got to try these dumplings! This wasn't a super gigantic or hugely filling meal so I'd probably order one extra side (the broccoli looked great and I kinda wish my husband had sided with me on ordering it, lol) just to round things out if I returned. Overall, a quite positive experience and I'm grateful to have had it!

After last night's shenanigans, I was feeling less than 100% today. When loads of Gatorade and…read morewater didn't take away my headache and queasy stomach, I knew only one thing would do: greasy Chinese food. I work in Fenton, so I needed to find a place close to my job. Yelp to the rescue! J&I wasn't too far, and it had pretty good Yelp reviews, so I hopped in my car and headed over! It's a tiny little place in a strip mall. Their menu is pretty standard, with all of the things you'd expect at a quickie Chinese place. Whenever I try a new Chinese place, I always order their boneless hot braised chicken. If they can't do that right, I don't even bother coming back for anything else. J&I offered a boneless hot braised chicken combo plate; it came with chicken fried rice, 2 pieces of crab rangoon, and the hot braised chicken, of course. All of that food for $5! Awesome. The food came out pretty quickly, so no complaints there. But how did it taste? Well...it wasn't too bad! The chicken fried rice was decent, and the crab rangoon was tasty. The hot braised chicken fell kind of short. It was really salty, and the sauce was really thick and almost too sweet. Honestly, I think Bo Fung's hot braised chicken has spoiled me, because nothing else compares! The portions were really generous; I have enough for lunch tomorrow. Two lunches for 5 bucks? I'll take it! I don't think I'll be back, however. There are more places in the area I'd like to try first.

Horrible and way overpriced, even if it was as good as all the reviews seem to think. Should have known better after seeing this place; dark, dank, run down, no other customers at 6 pm on a Tuesday and apparently one person running the kitchen, the phone and the cash register. The pot stickers were acceptable and the sauce served with them was very good. The Crab Rangoon, see pic, was terrible, no flavor at all, just cream cheese, and who makes Crab Rangoon like that. The real disappointment was the cashew chicken. It had absolutely no flavor except for the soy sauce I added. Worst Chinese food I have ever experienced. If you decide to give this place a try, ask yourself if you really want to order something after walking in the door. Epically bad!!!!

We dug into our meals before taking photos, so there's no visible evidence of our feast aside from our leftovers, but Thank you Lui Shun Wok! We will be back!
