I was even allowed to drive their Tuk Tuk around the block because I promised I had driven Tuk Tuks in Thailand. I lied. Its hard not to eat Thai food in Pitt St between World Square and Campbell St. I counted about 15 places within a 5 minute walk. I have actually eaten in all of them except Chat Thai. This little place has a Tuk Tuk! Unfortunately it looks like it has been parked at high speed by a blind person and I dont expect to see it on the road for a while. Oh yeah ... the food is fantastic. The ambience and furniture is modern and great but that's as good as things get unfortunately. Starting with the service, it seems like the restaurant had been sold to another owner who changed all the staff. They had no idea what they were doing and had to keep referring my questions to their head (I'm guessing boss/manager). When we asked the waitress if a particular dish was any good, she referred that question to her boss before saying 'I don't know!'. Waiters should always know what their dishes taste like!! Secondly, the waitress wanted ME to open the bottle of red wine I ordered because she was scared the cork would pop open in her face. Yikes. The food was average. I've had much better thai elsewhere. The Deep Fried Fish with Mango Salad (~$29) was more like deep fried fish fingers. The menu had a picture of the whole fish presented on the plate but I ended up getting bits of fish deep fried. Not impressed unfortunately. Their paw paw salad was large in portion but lacked good flavour. Most disappointing dish would have to be the deep fried ice cream ($10.90). It was definitely deep fried, maybe 2 hours ago? The outside layer was cold and oily. I had basically paid for vanilla ice cream. Not a happy customer as you could understand. However, if you do end up eating here, you must have the Ox Tongue ($10.50). They grilled that to perfection. Delicious. I don't like giving bad reviews but this place has become one of the forgettable restaurants I've been to. Sad sad face.

All on a Thursday night! When you at the restaurant on a quite night the service of food is about average waiting times, but if you go on a weekend you do wait a little while more and it's recommended that you do call ahead and book a table to avoid disappointment, because honestly it's one of the most busiest restaurants in canley vale from Friday to Sunday. As for the food, one of my personal fav is the crying tiger it's a just try, it's beef strips marinated In a zesty chilli sauce, but it's not that spicy it's just nice. And the pad thai and thai curries are authentic and pretty damn nice! Only problem is trying to find a park on the weekend, sometimes you have to park a few streets away. Overall a very pleasant dining experience.

The waiters are clearly proud of their fare and happily leafed through Chilli's menu to help me decide between many, many great looking options. I tried: - tom yum soup (spicy and good!) - vegetable spring rolls with plum sauce (good! though expect some tough mushrooms in there) - prawns wrapped in potato (good!) In all honesty, this is not the best Thai food restaurant in the world. But in combination with their fun, noisy ambiance and interesting selection, you might just get hooked.

Ironically the previous tenant was a Thai restaurant. However by far, Chilli Cha Cha has had the longest run and hopefully touch wood, it will stay there...permanently. The food is actually really, really good despite the fact the restaurant is never fully packed, although reasonably busy. Its probably because it doesn't look as swanky as Chat Thai and due to its location on the edge of the Chinatown eating district on Castlereagh St. I love all the entrees, especially the tangy dipping sauce that goes with the fish cakes. Yum! For mains, you can't go past the Crying Tiger and the Pork Belly. The noodles dishes such as the Pad Thai are really good, which for me a sign of a great Thai restaurant. If you can't do the a classic really well, then you're in trouble! Overall I love this restaurant, and a great alternative to Chat Thai.

Though I only tried their vegetarian phad thai, I have to say it was nowhere near terrible. Nor was it terrific. Very middle ground.
