Definitely a cute and yummy spot to check out if you're in the mood for Thai. I have found that this is the most affordable option in the general area as well. A group of us stopped in and were immediately seated. Our food came out quickly and the service was decent. I got the drunken noodles with beef and e joyed the flavor and spice level, and I was able to take a few bites of my friends dishes and found them equally as delicious. My niece has gotten take out here several times but never dined in, on my first night in town we tried them out. The space is small so be prepared to be friendly and be careful how you stack your serving dishes. The food is AMAZING. We enjoyed our entrees tremendously. Loved my hokkien noodles. We searched far and wide for a restaurant until we got bored and picked the next place we stumbled into with two free seats: that place was Stir Crazy Thai. I enjoy going to "hole-in-the-wall" type establishments with my wife, (we enjoy the adventure of it all) and what we found in this place was the definition of the phrase. We were directed upstairs to a tight nook of the place. It was intimate for the two of us and a little bit too intimate to the table next to us. No matter. We enjoy new experiences like these, but I can see how some people might panic themselves into a blind rage over the space, but we tend to remain cool as cucumbers names Ty drinking Kool-aid. Anyway, we didn't need to wait long to get served and our food was promptly behind our placed orders. Very nice. The food was good. I mean, really good. I had the Grandmas Noodles and my wife, the Thai Fried Rice. Portions were big enough to save some for later. And because of our budget, we love those portions. Overall, if you like hole-in-the-wall locations where you feel somewhat like you're at a family gathering with a bunch of uncles you don't know, it's great. Food is worth it. The explosion of Thai restaurants around Kirribilli in recent years is a curious trend, given that each seems to serve exactly the same menu and none are competing too well in the quality stakes. Stir Crazy is the original, and while newcomers have tempted a takeaway order here and there, I always return for the best food, the biggest portions and the most reasonable prices. They had a refurbishment a few years back that transformed the tiny shopfront into an ambient hot spot of sorts - decked out with (fake) flickering candles and chrome shelving lined with imported sauce bottles and jars, dining here is a much classier take on the typical takeaway experience. While the to-go crowd keeps them busy from midday onwards, my advice is to opt to dine in as the meals are inevitably larger and they'll package up leftovers for you anyway. Their satay chicken skewers are hard to pass up to start, the sauce think with peanut chunks and spiked with fresh chilli, while the yum gob salad with tender, coconut milk-poached chicken with fresh vegetables in a mildy spicy curry sauce is my go-to order for main. It's BYO, too - if you've come empty handed, grab a vino from the BWS conveniently next door - and the staff are pretty relaxed and happy for you to get your booze on while you dine. read more

The restaurant was full when we walked down, scores of people seated on the tables in this small and crazily popular Thai eatery. We wandered into the BWS next door and chose a bottle of wine to enjoy over dinner as we waited for a table. Finally some people left and we were seated. The lack of space versus the popularity of the restaurant culminating in a very squashed seating arrangement between myself and my two friends. Shoulder to shoulder we sat and perused the menu. We ordered and began to drink our recently purchased wine. The food was brought out and we ate it, as we thought that was the appropriate response. It was delicious and filling and just what we needed to fill our stomachs as we intended a bit of drinking to follow. I had to use the bathroom and unfortunately their bathroom was not in the restaurant but around the corner, I took the key from the waiter and made my way there. We got the bill and left. First the good... Hubby loved his Panang Curry. Now the bad... tiny cramped dining area, horrible service (servers ate dinner at table beside us with friends and totally ignored us), very loud (radio and servers talking with friends). I ordered Mee Grob (crispy noodle dish). The meat was way over cooked. Prawns and tofu were good. Sauce was ok - very sweet, just kind of one note flavoring. Really enjoyable Thai restaurant, the food is hot & tasty, served quick & the staff helpful. It's always busy & the best time to visit is early dinner time so you avoid the mad evening rush. The Money Bags starter is one of the most yummy things I have had in Australia, little round pastry bags deep fried with a filling of corn, peas & chicken & tied at the top so you have a crunchy top. Best Thai food I have ever had! Had the green curry and the chicken pad Thai, and couldn't have been happier! You can bring wine or beer to this restaurant for a $2 per person corkage fee. My husband and I were searching for dinner in Kirribilli when we found this place. We were seated quickly and upstairs. The ambiance was super cute and cozy. My husband (who has never had Thai food before) ordered the basic beef fried rice. I ordered Green Curry. I must say, the Green Curry was the BEST curry I've ever had in my life, hands down. It was so fresh and the curry itself was creamier than I've had in the past. My husband enjoyed his as well. True to its name, this place is a little on the crazy side - in a good way. The fairy lighting, frenetic waiters, pumping music and close quarters make this place a bit more than just your local Thai place. If you're up for eating somewhere quirky, upbeat and cool then Stir Crazy is for you. Oh and the food is good too! Stir Crazy Thai is always packed time and time again. While I prefer their competitor down the road, Bangkok Sidewalk, the restaurant does have a few dishes which are a favourite of mine. This place gets really busy so it is best to book in advance. Despite there being an abundance of Thai restaurants in the area, Stir Crazy does get a bit busy, as customers go "crazy" for their Thai! BWS is conveniently located on the corner. On more than one occasion, my friends and I have bought a bottle of wine to bring to the restaurant (BYO is accepted). The restaurant is a little small and cramped which is one drawback of the place- and can be very noisy. But this seems to be a common theme in Thai restaurants in the area. I frequented this restaurant for a lunch and was surely disappointed. The food is great, however the service was absolutely shocking. The waitress was rude, brought out the wrong food, did not write one of the dishes we asked for and would not admit she was wrong! A table next to me did not have any cutlery, so a waitress proceeded to take the one on my table and gave it to them. When I inquired about the paying system and whether we could split the bill, I was met with a stern (and quite rude "no!"). I went here today with my customer. I have been here a few times before and the food is consistently decent but today was just a really horrible experience. Firstly we went upstairs to sit down and eat, the staff upstairs had no sense of joy or happiness. I did not even see a smile of any kind.. it was definitely a 0 for customer service experience. We were greeted very average and we felt unwelcome. Once the food came out, we were quite satisfied as the portions are a decent size and the thai ice tea is very nice. The issue started as we were paying our bill as we ordered a takeaway container and we were charged fifty cents for it. This restaraunt only takes cash and we were 50c short on our 35 dollar bill. We explained to them we would go to the ATM to get the 50c and come back to the restaraunt straight away as we are semi regular customers and that they know our faces from before. They were adamant that my 17year old female cousin stay behind as security or that we leave a photo ID or passport. We explained to them that we paid the bulk of the bill and were dissapointed to find them make a scene infront of other locals for 50c. In the end we had another customer who was eating there witness this incident and he took out 50c from his wallet and ran up to pay this amount. I think the staff being rude and treating us like we were worthless was quite hurtful as we are very decent people who happened to have 35aud cash on us and were 50c short. I think treating customers like this over a small amount of money is quite rude and desperate. We will not eat at this restaraunt again and we will not be treated this way. At the end of the day we did not deserve to be made an example of infront of others and to be treated like this. I would only recommend this place if you want a quick cheap eat .. however if you are expecting friendly staff or a joyful experience; go somewhere else. On my way out I explained to them that it was poor treatment over such a small amount of money however the waitress spoke very little english so my words were not understood. I hope the manager sees this and trains the staff to have some sense of humanity, respect and decency when dealing with valued customers. read more
