Been to Dodee Paidang in Haymarket twice and emphasis on the paiDANG because DANG it is really good. The group tried the Pad Thai, Pad See-ew, Khao Soi, Combination Dry Noodle and Soup, and some fishball and wonton skewers. The desserts were eqally delicious, especially the Tubtim Krob. I'd have to say this is among the best Thai food I've ever tried, because of reasonable price point, broad options of dishes and desserts you don't always find elsewhere. This place was packed at 10 pm on a Sunday night, with plenty of other options available. That was a definite sign they are doing something right. The menu is extensive. I was in a curry mood, and while they have multiple options, they didn't have my favorite, yellow chicken curry. The cashier suggested the Penang curry. When I asked if it was spicy - which is what I remember - she said it was more sweet. I went with chicken Penang curry and fried chicken wings. Maybe it was the fact I just came off of a ten-hour flight and was hungry, but man, those were some good chicken wings! They had all the greasy goodness you could want, but the coating was different and lighter than what we get in the United States. They come with a chili sauce, which I didn't try. They were delicious as is. And the Penang curry - it was good, too, but it was also quite spicy! It took a few bites before my mouth adjusted. My nose was running and It was almost hot enough to make my eyes start watering. There was a generous amount of chicken. I stayed away from the chilies but noticed broccoli at the bottom of the container (it was takeout) and I fetched those yummy little green trees right away. Seems like a good place for everyone but an especially good date place. They stay open late. Most seat is inside - there is a step up - but there's a table outside with stools, and a heat generator for those chilly nights. read more

Wow! Do Dee Paidang has the best noodle outside Thailand. I grew up in Thailand and I can tell this place offer real Thai flavor. Now I lived in New York City and no restaurant can compare with Do Dee Paidang. This restaurant is for spicy lover like me. I came to Sydney for vacation and heard a lot of good reputation about this place so I decided to try it out. Now I'm in love with this restaurant. I love their noodle. In addition, the other thing that I think it tasted awesome is Somtum Poo Plara. I have try many of their noodle. I love all of them especially Doodee moo-num. Now let me talk about service. It was great even though it is extremely busy, all servers are managed to put the smile on their face and took care of us very well which I think it's rare in fast pace restaurant. The first day we went the restaurant is extremely busy, we have to write our name and wait for the table but it was worth. We came back a couple time when we still in Sydney and always satisfied with their service. I think they are friendly and Efficient. I'm recommend this place for everyone, especially for Thai people who visited Sydney for vacation and looking for great Thai food to eat. This is a must go place!!!! Recommend to everyone. read more

Hearty food at very reasonable prices in the middle of Haymarket just outside Market City. This place is always busy and you need to put your name down on the list at the door. The Tom Yum noodle soup is a specialty here but be warned - the spiciness levels are insane if you go above #2. I am a decent chilli eater and number #2 level was already slowing me down! Entrees are also good and also the salads. The glass noodle pad thai is also different from a textural perspective from your normal rice stick noodles. read more

One of the best late night snack i've ever had. And i used to live off late night snacks. Appetizers were good. The mango sticky rice was very good. But the star of the show is the tom yum noodle soup! One of the best combinations of flavors and ingredients. It tastes exactly like the good tom yum goong i've had during my many trips to Thailand. I can eat very spicy and got level 3 spiciness. It was very good level of heat at first, but the soup becomes progressively spicier as the chilis sit in the soup and continue to add spice. One of my favourite Thai restaurants so far. This one is more authentic than Home Thai. There are a lot of local Thai food. I always have crispy pork with prik khing sauce. Very tasty and yummy. Tum Lard salad is a huge salad portion with fried fishcake, prawn, fish, chicken, pork skin and extra veggie. I was quite overwhelmed when the dish arrive because I didn't know where to start. Som Tum Thai is a great choice for this dish. After all, it's a good one. Will come back for more. The only cons are service and small space. read more

4.5 Stars The food here is excellent and tastes authentic to me. The pandan juice was light and sweet, faintly green and had the familiar pandan taste. The tom yum noodle soup with fish balls (and without spiciness) was really good. I liked having a choice of noodles and the soup base was delicious. The soft boiled rice with pork also had a good tasting liquid and the rice was soft and plump from soaking. The som tum Thai with pickled crab had a very strong flavor. There were alot of peanuts, some cherry tomatoes, a few green beans and thin shreds of green papaya. I didn't like this dish as much as the other dishes. The mango sticky rice was sweet and tasty, the rice chewy. The mixed jelly with coconut was sweet and enjoyable too, though the coconut milk turned pink from food coloring after awhile. The Thai ice milky cordial reminded me of strong strawberry milk and it was bright bubblegum pink. I would skip this drink. Overall, great place. I would come back for their noodle soups (which is what they're known for.) read more

I love love love this place. It's a bit embarrassing really that it has taken this long for me to discover it. The tom yum soup is to die for. And literally to die for if you opt for any of the higher spicy levels. I'd like to think I am a decent chilli eater but already found level 1 (of 7!) spicy enough. The broth is full of flavour and you can choose the protein ingredients. I just had the traditional mix of what I think was beef and pork but can't wait to go back and try the grilled seafood ones. Such great value as well at $6 for a small which is plenty if you also get some entrees to try with your fellow diners. Speaking of entrees, get the skewers! Our favourite was the pork skewer which was well marinated and still juicy. The most interesting entree we had though was the skewers with quail egg wrapped inside wonton skin and fried. I also love Thai desserts and it is hard to beat Chat Thai desserts in particular but Do Dee definitely has a great selection including the donuts with pandan custard. The menu is huge so it's hard to imagine how many visits it will take for me to try it all but I'm definitely willing to come back again and again... forget about Michelin star restaurants, sometimes cheap and authentic leaves a greater impression. read more

BEST MEAL I HAD IN AUSTRALIA! Some local friends brought us here a few weeks ago when we were visiting, and I am still dreaming about this food! I was in Thailand a few months ago, and I'd say the food here is even better (also because I can actually taste it without the spice burning my mouth off). We ordered a couple things -- a massaman curry, a seafood tom yum, a beef jerky, a green mango salad, and a fresh coconut. We inhaled everything. The massaman curry had beef that was so tender it fell apart. The seafood tom yum was spicy but so delicious, we couldn't stop drinking it. The beef jerky looked like little pieces of Medusa's hair and was intimidating at first, but of course we loved that too. More crispy than chewy, and perfectly spiced. The mango salad and coconut juice were great to have with the spicy and salty counterparts. The food here was so authentic and not overly sweet like many other Thai places. Hands down the best Thai street noodle joint in CBD. But be warned because when they say it's spicy, it IS SPICY! The spiciness scale is not an aussie-fied version but the real deal. I can't feel my tongue after trying the level two (there are five levels all together) noodle. They also have Thai sized portions here so make sure you order the jumbo size (don't worry you'll have no trouble finishing it!!). The recommended dish is noodle #10 - noodles with mixed meatballs meat chunks steak sausages etc. Another must try dish is the sausage like meatball rows which are to be eaten with rice paper wraps. Absolutely delicious and make sure you order additional noodles to soak in the yummy sauce! It's also BYO so you can bring some singha beer to serve with your food too. read more

Some of the rudest service I've ever received. Greeted with a stare (no words) by the female running the front on a Saturday morning. She proceeds to grab two menus, places them down on a table and walks off. Uh, I guess we're supposed to sit there. So we do. Then she doesn't even pay attention as we take our order. Instead, she's texting on her phone. Which I'd be okay because she might actually be writing down our order but it was obvious that she was only half listening... When I tell her I'll wait to order my drink, she's gives me this angry "HUH?!" while leaning in close and quickly with an angry face. I'm a bit taken back by her reaction. When I asked for a #6, she doesn't even look up from her phone while responding, "We don't have 6, 7, or 8." No explanations. Okay... I watch as she interacts with all of the other customers and she's smiling and was seemingly very, very nice, even giggling! I have no idea what we did to deserve the rude service. I am a spicy food lover, but this one was over the top, and I ordered it medium spicy. Waiter did not warn me about that... Grilled squid was excellent but the green papaya salad was way too spicy! So be careful how you order it. When they say spicy they mean SPICY. If it were not for that, I would give it 4 stars, just because service was not all that great. read more

Fairly authentic Thai food in the heart of Chinatown. The service is pleasant and attentive. One of the few places in Australia that brings water without you having to request it. The spice is kicked up a notch from other US places however. Their mild, level 1, is a little hotter than a medium in US. Flavors are nice, ingredients are fairly fresh too. read more

Absolutely delicious Thai food! I would totally recommend the fried school prawns as an entree. Tried the Do Dee Monster. It was soooo spicy despite it being only level 1 but it was absolutely delicious. If you're not that great with spice, go for a level 0. I thought I was pretty good with spice but Doo Dee Paidang proved me otherwise. read more
