Attentive, without being disruptive, wonderful communicating, extremely knowledgeable, and intuitive. Our food was cooked perfectly! Each item had its own individual tastes which was very refreshing. Definitely a great date night, family dinner, and drinks w friends place.

I searched for French dip in Williamsburg. Second street bistro kept coming up on ChatGPT. I looked…read moreat the menu and saw a brisket sandwich. When I got to the restaurant I asked if they had horse radish: no. Au jus: yes. I wanted a piece of Carrot cake but I thought $18 was exorbitant. I opted for the pecan pie instead. The online menu said they had some crispy chicken dinner... It was no longer part of the menu when I arrived to the restaurant.. My significant other is allergic to shellfish, and does not eat pork... There weren't a lot of entrée options for him because there was pork all over the place. I did order him some salmon since he could not get the chicken. He liked the salmon. The broccoli had no flavor on it. And the brown rice pilaf was equally Bland. The brisket sandwich was ...okay... but dipping it in French onion soup calling it onion jus.... It just pissed me off. I think the menu was overpriced for tourists. The staff seemed to be doing the best they could. I guess I'll continue my hunt for the best Friend dip in Williamsburg. I'm down here a lot.

While we can't promise *you* won't have a similar experience, we can say that in this case the executive chef personally responded promptly to a respectful polite email and then handled it all very appropriately once informed. And for that alone, we revise to 4 stars. Perhaps ours was an isolated incident. Regardless, a big thank you to the executive chef for the response and swift refund. Much appreciated. We *think* any executive chef would want to KNOW what was going on, perhaps in their absence, right? YMMV. Thanks again. ORIGINAL 1 star review: New Years Eve dinner at Terrace Room. The photo shows "pan-seared" scallops with a ... risotto-like substance. Heh. $50. Uh huh. Scallops: No sear. Super chewy. Hard to even cut. Risotto was like mushy oatmeal stuff and zero seasoning or flavor. Maybe something was wrong in the kitchen, I dunno. Ack. We both ordered this and left most of it. Also a bottle of wine (white) that had to be chilled in front of us for a while before the server could/would pour it. Hm. $110 for that. Note: the *service* was excellent! It is never a waiter's "fault" when the food is awful. We tipped the excellent waiter accordingly, BTW. Just sharing our experience at this place on this particular night. Hope it helps. Be aware. Maybe it's "iffy."

For starters I got the French onion soup which came out in about 20 minutes. Soup was very solid and had more of a purée taste which was surprisingly good. The pasties especially the chocolate croissants were also delicious. After another 25 minutes the main dishes came out. I got the fillet which came with a peppercorn glaze (amazing!) and crispy potato pie. Fillet was cooked to correct medium rare temperature and tasted delicious! For desert, I got the cheesecake with raspberry! It was really rich and delicious! The raspberry puree provided a nice tart taste to go alongside the sweetness! Staff were very friendly and the service for this entire meal was about an hour thru. A very delicious place restaurant that I'd gladly come back to if I'm in the area! Arrived in town early morning to see if I could checkin early before the 3pm time. I have done this…read moreat other hotels if I arrive early. No one was at the front desk. Had to wait. Desk person was nice and cordial but made no attempt to help. Just no you can't check in right now. Not even a call us later and I can check to see if the room is ready and you can check in. Nothing. Went to my business meeting arrived at 5:30p for check in. Again no one at the front desk, no bell to ring for service, nothing. Nothing so waited again. Desk person arrived was nice and helped us check in. Came down a while later to buy some snacks and water. Walked to front desk to have items charged to my room. Again no one at the front desk. Again I had to wait. What was at the front desk was the check in form to someone who checked in a couple of rooms from mine showing a one night stay - like mine - charged $40 less than my $219. This annoyed me. This hotel is not worth this price at all. I booked it because I figured it would be comfortable, close to proximity, I could grab breakfast, and I'd get friendly service. Yes it's on me for booking here at that price but it really stung to see that less expensive price for exactly the same room, one night stay, and same floor room as mine priced out at $189 versus $219. Granted I booked about 4 days prior and the cheaper rate was not available, and maybe the other person booked way ahead. It just showed me how Holiday Inn cares about money egregiously more than true service to customers. I get it's a corporation out to make money but booking the same type of rooms at such a price difference just really pissed me off. Just rubbed me the wrong way. I tried to let it go. But, moving on to their free breakfast buffet. Usual hotel buffet breakfast fare of eggs, sausage gravy and sausages, pancakes etc. have had these before at other hotels. Generally these are not restaurant quality but you will leave with a full belly, EXCEPT at this Holiday Inn. I had some sausage gravy and eggs. Could not finish it. Sausage gravy tasted absolutely terrible, eggs had a weird texture and were watery. Breakfast closed at 10am. Holiday Inn kitchen worker came out a bit before 10a and was visibly annoyed that people were still there. Rolled her eyes and went to the back again. As soon as people exited she made sure she closed all the doors to end the breakfast buffet. Closed by 10am on the dot. No smiles no good morning. Just annoyed look. I recommend going early when the buffet opens. Maybe food will be better. As for cleanliness. It's borderline for its price point. I've stayed at least known motels that were cleaning all the time. This Holiday Inn was somewhat dirty. Elevator had wet floor from pool that wasn't mopped. I exited the elevator to my shoes then making a sticky sound every time I took a step. Lobby rugs needed vacuuming. I wouldn't recommend this Holiday Inn on Richmond Rd in Williamsburg or stay again even at the $189 price point. On top of it all the cleanliness was subpar. Poor customer service, high price, and bad breakfast buffet in my honest opinion. If you do plan on booking a room make sure you get a room rate of $189 or less for a double queen suite. Otherwise you will feel fleeced like I did. On a positive note, my room was comfortable and clean. I get it's Williamsburg and I chose this place for the convenience to where I needed to go. But I think next time I will just book elsewhere because the lack of presence at the front desk, haphazardness of leaving someone else's checkin papers there for all to see, the poor quality of food and just the lack of real customer service makes me give this location 0 stars if I could.
