Quite good. Different than your average Mexican. More of a southwest spin to food. Will be back.

Ambiance: Decent, on a smaller side, but neat and well maintaned Chips&Salsa: Complimentary chips were good, and not on salty side, salsa was practically tasteless and no sourness/spice at all. Asked for hot salsa and it was literally bombarded with spiciest chillies on scoville scale. Drinks: Pitcher of margarita was good. Worth $25? may be not, but it was decent quantity for 3. Entrees: I had santa fe, chicken was dry(probably not fresh??) , rice was dry, some taste to it, but nothing to write home about. Ate about half and left it and didnt even bother to box the leftovers. Wife had fish tacos and they were also tasteless and dry. My five star review is because our waitress was very nice and friendly! The food was good. We are from NM, so were excited to see a place with NM food. It's not quite the authentic NM food, but will do. They need to have red Chile in addition to green..and I would say green Chile should be fried w onions for more flavorful dish. This was our first time here and I was pleasantly surprised. The staff was very knowledgable and friendly. Our server gave us great recommendations. We each had a veggie burrito and shared the queso for an appetizer. Everything was well spiced, the salsa was great, and even our child's quesadilla wasn't too shabby! Report Card: Chile Verde Overall GrubGrade B The Breakdown: Atmosphere: Grade B: We hit up our nearest Chile Verde for lunch a few weeks ago. Since we weren't there during peak hours, it's a little hard to judge on atmosphere. The place was exceptionally clean and quiet, and table spacing was a non-issue since there were only a couple other patrons in the restaurant. The outside décor is pretty bland, but the particular Chile Verde is located in a strip mall, so the outside of the building is probably always going to be fairly bland. Although it was clean on the inside, it was also fairly boring. But let's face it, if you're eating at Chile Verde, that means you're probably tired of Taco Bell but don't want to spring for the upscale atmosphere of a Cantina Laredo. That's cool. Chile Verde seems comfortable in its own skin and isn't trying to fool anyone with flashy décor. High marks: Quiet and clean Low marks: Inside and outside décor fairly bland .............................................................................................................................................................................. Service: Grade B: As with most of our experiences with Mexican themed restaurants, we had a bit of a language barrier with our server. But, he still did a really nice job of looking after us. As with other Mexican restaurants, our food was ready in a matter of minutes. Margaritas came quickly, and once they were drained the server was quick to offer a refill (we declined - it was a little too early to tie one on). We received fresh chips and salsa after a really short wait once we finished off the first batch. Overall, service was really solid, but just not spectacular. Food/Spirits: Grade B+: After devouring a couple baskets of tortilla chips and a half gallon of salsa, which was pretty good but we have had better chips and salsa, we both decided on fajitas for lunch. However, we both started off with margaritas before we dug in to our fajitas. Katina ordered a raspberry margarita and I selected a strawberry margarita (I know...real butch, right?). Both margaritas were extremely flavorable with nary a hint of tequila taste. Yum yum! Katina ordered the chicken fajitas and I ordered the steak fajitas. Now, those of you who regularly follow this blog may have noticed that I rarely get anything chicken based except for the occasional order of chicken wings. You all may be wondering why I generally shun chicken, so I am going to tell you. Chickens are absolutely one of the filthiest animals on the planet. Eww! It doesn't seem to bother Katina, though. She eat almost anything with chicken in it. Now the fajitas at Chile Verde are very good. Our favorite part was the amount of meat that came with the meal. My experience with fajitas is that generally you get a few morsels of meat and a ton of veggies. That always seemed out of balance to us. The fajitas at Chile Verde were quite different. Oh, there were veggies, but there was also lots of meat. And, the veggies and cheese were mixed together, so it was easy to maintain the balance of the dish. If you grabbed a handful of cheese, you invariably got a handful of peppers and onions to go with it. We were quite impressed with the fajitas at Chile Verde. High marks: Fantastic fajitas Low marks: Nothing special about the chips and salsa .............................................................................................................................................................................. Value: Grade B+: We ate pretty well and didn't spend too much money. Portion size seemed pretty good, although it's a little hard to tell when you order fajitas - you usually don't take fajitas home in a doggy bag. Quality actually exceeded our expectations. I was skeptical when it was suggested that we go here for lunch from office coworkers Boy was I wrong. Loved this place and been back multiple times. Staff has a really good energy. They are friendly upbeat attentive and know their menu. It's some of the best service I have had in the Columbus area recently. They also get the lunch crowd out in a timely manner Unlimited chips and salsa like most of their competitors but the quality and taste of both beat their competitors hands down. I ordered their chimichanga off the lunch menu. It comes with a choice of rice or beans and protein for the chimichanga filling and a sauce of your choice. I would highly recommend the shredded beef. The standard sauce is very much like a BBQ style sauce and is very good but is mild. If you are looking for spicy as for the green sauce and the spice level goes right to my level of perfect (just hot enough to not make me sweat) :-) It's turned into a craving and while I don't go here for all my lunches I always consider it. I heard very good things about this place and had been wanting to try it for a while. It is one of the few places in Columbus where you can get tamales. Went for lunch and the food was excellent. Queso is the best I have had in the city. I rated it 3 stars as a very small side of sour cream is $1.00. Also I asked for a side of the hot sauce as I couldn't decide between mild or hot enchiladas as you never know how spicy a restaurants spicy is going to be and was charged $2.00 for the side. I understood the charge for the sour cream as that is typical, but a heads up for the salsa would of been nice. For $2.00 I would not of ordered it just to try it. read more

I am very surprised to see the rating for this place. We eat hear a lot and the service and food are always top notch. The place is usually busy and I have never heard anything bad about it from anyone. I am not saying they are perfect, no place is, but I am surprised. My guess is that the few times something had gone wrong it happened to be to a yelp reviewer. Everything is great and fresh. Can't recommend the "bbq" burrito and quesadilla enough. read more

I ordered two crab cakes and took home one. At home, where the lighting is better, I noticed that there is no crab meat. It is made from the imitation crab meat made from pollock. Shame on you for saying it was blue lump crab on the menu. The previous visit, I asked for extra sauce and they charged $2 for it. The waitress did not tell me of the extra charge until I saw it on the receipt. She had to get the manager to reverse the charge but no one returned to the table; so, I went ahead and paid the extra $2 because it was not worth any more of my time. What's going on? The chili rellenos were minimal pepper, no cheese, and a spongy batter that was awful. The street tacos do not come with any sauce, it's an extra charge. I should've ordered some margaritas and maybe the food would've tasted better. read more

Fajitas were inedible. Meet over cooked and dry. Chips were greasy ..... Guacamole was brown. Do not reccomend.

I was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Based on my memories, I can attest to the authenticity of this New Mexican food. I had the Enchiladas Estancia. I remember enchiladas like this from my mothers kitchen and from many restaurants in NM. These are served layered, not rolled. The flavors meld beautifully and are not sauce dependent. Topped with an over-easy egg, they were perfect. I look forward to many more meals at Chili Verde! read more

This is by far the most un-authentic Mexican food I tasted .Lacks flavor and doesn't taste fresh.The only thing I liked was nachos.

This place is the "real thing". While in Columbus vicinity for on site work, I happened onto Chile Verde. While unassuming in decor, the place was not lacking in flavor. The flavor was in the food served. I have been on a quest for authentic "south of the border" cuisine for most of the last 40 years as I have traveled all over the US doing my thing; and I have not found better..... even when I was south of the border. LUCKY you folks, are to have this place in your own back yard, you don't even have to go south of Columbus! ENJOY!!..... If I ever get by this area again this will be the first place on my list. read more

This used to be one of my favorite places to eat but it has severely gone downhill. The last 3 times I've dined here they have been verrrrrry skimpy with the guacamole, girl, and the food quality is less than stellar. Today I ordered the signature fajitas and an appetizer order of guacamole for our table. The guacamole costs $7.50 and it is basically 1/2 cup of guacamole on top of shredded lettuce and tomatoes in the black bowl that guac is usually made in. Bottom line they are filling the bowl up with sad, shredded lettuce to make it look full. For $7.50 this is unacceptable. Additionally my fajitas were mostly green pepper and onion with barely any meat/shrimp. Also no red peppers. In the past the fajitas have been way better with a good mix of veggies and meat. For $17 fajitas I expect better. Hopefully someone is reading these reviews and makes some changes for the better so that I can enjoy this restaurant again. read more

Service was wonderful! The food reminded me of Chi Chi's restaurant, it was delicious and the servings were huge. I would not spend the exta money on the variety of Margaritas and stick with the cheapest, because that was truely my favorite. read more

WOW.. The food was awesome and I had the best margarita I have ever had. Never have been here before and they gave us a free sampler of all thier meats and sauces for free. Our server explained each sauce and meat in great detail. They really knew their stuff. A++ guys We will be back! read more
