The best food, service, coffee and vibes. I have loved almost everything my husband and I have eaten here so far, we've been around 7 times. The best dishes I've experienced was the vegetarian enchiladas and breakfast dishes. I didnt love the green pozole, but my husband raved about the fish pozole. Give this place a try you won't regret the meal.
I was in Chicago for work and I was looking to grab lunch before a flight back home. I wanted something close to Midway.I'm so glad this came up. Chile Toreado was amazing. It was quiet when I went in, and I appreciated that they let me sit in a spot close to an outlet so I could charge my phone and work for a bit. The building seems to be under partial construction, but they are still open. When you go inside, there's a good amount of seating available as well. The service was great. It was also really nice to see how much of a community institution this place is -- several folks spoke to staff/the owners just to catch up. I ordered the chips and guacamole and the vegetarian enchiladas. The chips and guac was delicious. I really liked the salsas they had with these as well. The standout was the vegetarian enchiladas. I've never had enchiladas like these before. They were delicious!! The sauce was really interesting -- I think it was seed based, maybe? The veggies inside the enchiladas were also great -- a lot of variety inside and seasoned well! Personally, I would have liked more heat, but the salsas made up for it. Go here!!!
We decided to go to this part of the city to show some love in the current times. It was highly rated on here so we gave it a try. The staff was super friendly and welcomed us in as we got seated right away. The spot was not a huge spot, but they were also replacing the front wall of windows, so it was smaller than it probably is normally. The Gaucamole was actually flavorful with good crispy, lightly salted chips (1-2 must have had some water in the owl, because they were oddly soggy). All 3 salsas we got were tasty too. My partner really enjoyed the Shrimp. The Cochinita Pibil was also really well done and pretty lean. We'll definitely pin this on our map and return. They said they have outdoor seating in the summer.
Mmmm... good! The green Mohl posole with chicken was incredibly delicious! My friend ordered the shrimp dish with rice and it was gorgeous and tasty. She ate every bite. I brought the mushrooms and chipotle sauce home for dinner and that was absolutely delicious too. The service was great location was perfect. And it's a really nice restaurant with pretty art.
The nicest folks around, this place punches above its weight. Cloth napkins, servers wiping the rim of the plates, like in a fine dining restaurant. But the real magic is the food: flavorful, well prepared, delicious dishes. We had the al pastor huaraches and the shrimp pozole soup, both delicious and reasonably priced. Another great Mexican restaurant to patronize!
Chile Toreado was delicious. We ordered the chilaquiles and the Mexican skillet and both hit the spot. The chilaquiles came with a thin steak and an omelet style egg, which was different and a good version compared to other chilaquiles l have tried before. The server was attentive, checking on us a few times. Sit down, casual spot for a yummy comforting breakfast - I'll definitely be going back for dinner one day!!
Love this place! We enjoyed both the mild, savory pozole and the tender short rib barbacoa. But the real star is the vegetable tlayuda. The veggies have a rich, charcoal-grilled flavor, on the best thin and crispy crust I've ever had anywhere. It's almost like perfect filo dough, and it's huge! It could be an entree for two. The horchata isn't too sweet and has a pleasing bit of grit. Low-key family ambiance, nothing fancy.
The food was great and quick. The staff was friendly. Super cool small neighborhood spot that still has that neighborhood feel. I had the Mexican Skillet, it was top notch.
Superiorly Spectacular Mexican recipes from the state of Guerrero served in a welcoming setting in McKinley Park. We'd previously enjoyed the fare here before a Wynton Marsalis concert, but our visit today was after attending a Sox game. Upon entering we were immediately greeted & seated. Service was fast, orders were taken swiftly & we were checked on often by our attentive server, Raul. Ordered: Papas Toreadas, Tlayuda Vegetariana, veggie tacos, Mole Chicken Enchiladas, Crispy Chicken Milanesa. The crispy chicken milanesa served with the cilantro lime sauce and garlic mashed potatoes were one of the many stars of the show. Enchiladas De Mole were an experience entrenched deep in flavor. I love pickled veggies & really enjoyed the pickled onions on the dishes. If you come here, you must order Tlayuda for the table. It is like a large tostada but w/crispy cracker thin bread baked like a pizza. We always get the veggie version & always a shareable winner. Toward the end of our meal, the owner, Jaime, came to check on us. We let him know we thoroughly enjoyed the dishes out of kitchen. In our chat, he let us know the recipes came from his mother in Guerrero & thanked us for our visit. We look forward to our return! Get in here!
Came here for cinco de Mayo celebration. My boyfriend found this place. Decided to come here for dinner. Let me say the chicken tinga taco are the bomb. I would come back for that. We both got margarita....delicious I got a TORTA and he got steak. Street parking Would come back!
Yesterday was my first time going into the restaurant. Until now, I've been ordering on Uber eats so I didn't know what the place looked like! When you first walk in, the servers will greet you right away. There's a counter that deals with the take out and delivery. Then there's tables for the customers to seat at. My group decided to order different items on the menu. I went for the crispy chicken. I wanted to get the Barbacoa but my coworker ordered that and I didnt want to repeat. Our food came out in a timely manner. My crispy chicken looked absolutely wonderful. Everyone at my table enjoyed their food for the most part. Everyone's taste buds are different so favoring was either missing or just enough. To me, everything tasted wonderful! I will be back in the future.

If you like Mexican food, you're gonna love this place. It's Mexican Cuisine at its best. It kinda hidden away, but it's more than worth it to get here. Cold beer, awesome food, the presentation is not what I expected. It blew me away. The staff is super friendly, the waitress Lorena was great. she asked how hot I wanted it. The chile de arbol is seriously hot, I know from experience. I asked for the tone down version. And my nose was still running. The prices are not bad at all either. You will be impressed read more

We came here on a Sunday evening looking for something new and this place did not disappoint!! We started out with a tlayuda and I can't believe i was able to try one. Never ever have I seen a restaurant offer tlayuda and I was dying to try one. Basically its like a very thin tortilla thats cooked to the point were its brittle to the touch. It was topped with black beans, sour cream, cheese, grilled onions, some green peppers, cilantro, and we chose steak as well. It was so good! I feel it's big enough to fill one person. I also order the barbacoa, which was incredible. it would just fall apart and burst with flavors once you took a bite. It came with cactus and mashed potatoes. My husband had a beef soup that was heave made. honestly try this place out. You will not be let down!! read more

Super stoked about this new spot in McKinley Park. I've been twice so far and I think it has only been open for 2 weeks or so--thats how pleased I was with my experience the first time! Between my boyfriend and I we have so far had the chips and salsa, two milanesa tortas, carne asada torta, and mi abuelita enchiladas de mole. The presentation is fantastic without being stuffy but the food is sooooo good, with the tortas being my favorite so far. Ive also had the limey plateada margarita (not my favorite because of how sour it was, but thats purely my fault for getting something that clearly states "limey" in the title) and the fresh pepino margarita, which I loved! It's clean and fresh-looking inside the establishment. Servers, host, and a gentleman I'm assuming to be the owner were all incredibly friendly and warm. I'm so excited to come back and eventually try everything on the menu! read more

It doesn't like much when you walk by. Very colorful, green walls. The al pastor tacos were really bad tasted really dry and powder like. The enchiladas de mole and ceviche was okay. As for Service It dragged, new business trying to figure it out. Selection of beer and liquor was really good, about a whole page. We visited Chile Toreado on March 4, 2020 and we were there from 6-7pm read more

This place continues to be our favorite spot in the neighborhood. The food is always outstanding and staff is very friendly. This past time, I tried the Chicken Milanese, which was nice and crispy and had a creamy cilantro sauce on it. We ordered the queso fundido as an appetizer and really enjoyed it. We've ordered here probably a dozen times and haven't had a disappointing experience yet. read more

We braved a chilly day to eat outside here. It was incredible! This business opened up right before COVID and they've put their heart and love into this beautiful space and it's food. This was the best pozole I've ever had. It was an ultimate textural experience with tender pork contrasted with some crispy chicharrones and shredded lettuce. We also had the barbacoa - also super tender and condensed with flavor - and holy crap the garlic mashed potatoes!!! I can't wait to come back. read more

This is a real hidden gem in McKinley Park. The first venture to this restaurant was by chance, merely because of its proximity to an event later that evening. Since then, we've been back many, many times. The waiters have repeatedly been very friendly, attentive, and kind. The food is delicious -- we usually order the guacamole and some iteration of the taco dinner (my personal favorite is their chorizo). I've never had a problem finding close, free parking. Overall, this is a very quaint little restaurant. Highly recommend. read more

My husband and I stopped here after realizing how close it was to us and reading all the great reviews. We arrived as soon as they opened and decided to sit in their cute little outdoor space. Staff was very polite from the beginning. We both ordered margaritas (pepino and the house special), guac, salsa and chips appetizer, steak burrito for my husband and barbacoa torta dinner for me. Everything was so good and fresh tasting. I was especially happy with the torta, it was served on more of a crispy baguette style bread vs the traditional round bolio- this may not be for everyone but I loved how the bread was able to absorb the juices from the barbacoa without getting soggy. Prices were pretty standard and for the quality of food, was worth it in my opinion- plus there was more than enough left over to bring home for lunch tomorrow. We'd definitely go back to try other items on the menu. Great little neighborhood spot! read more

I had a hankering for 5 Rabanitos, and in looking up their current hours, I learned they had a sister restaurant in McKinley Park, closer to my home in Bridgeport. I ordered take-out from Chile Toreado and was not disappointed. Just as delicious as 5 Rabanitos (which is to say, VERY). We got two orders of the vegetarian enchiladas: I got the roasted veggies with chipotle black bean sauce; my husband got cheese with the peanut butter salsa. We also got the fried plantains--holy jebus, YUM. Long story short, there was nary a leftover. I really really appreciate that both of the Sotelo restaurants have Vegetarian sections on their menu. They still have a limited lockdown menu right now, but I'm hoping this section will expand soon! read more

My boyfriend and I decided to try this place because it is so close to our house. The food was delicious!! We were shocked on how tasty the food was! We ordered the steak taco dinner, al pastor taco, carnitas taco, coastal cocktail, and Mariscos caldos. I can't wait to go back to try their tortas. The price for this place is a little pricey but I think the food is worth it! read more

Our favorite spot! The food and drinks are amazing. Great service. Can't say enough good things. It's not the fanciest looking place inside, but with the top-notch service and quality it doesn't even matter. read more

Great food & drinks! These guys are the same owners as 5 rabanitos & they do NOT disappoint with this new location! We had the Tlayuda with carne asada for starters which was very good. We also had the chicken mole which i highly recommend, it was charred to perfection. For drinks we had spicy mezcal margarita & was very tasty. I highly recommend this place & it is great addition to the McKinley Park area! read more

I went on a Thursday evening with my husband and four children. The staff was friendly and accommodating. I ordered the mole enchiladas and my husband ordered the barbacoa. Both were delicious however I didn't think the mashed potato complimented the barbacoa, they could of went with a different texture for the potato. We also had their house margarita, it was delicious and tasted fresh but it came in a Martini glass. I was expecting a larger glass. Everything was really good but the portions are small and it's overpriced. read more

I am very satisfied with my torta, there's many places that listen to my requests and do them. I asked for my bread to be really toasty and they delivered. It's very full of cheese, so cheese lovers this is for you, also it's a lot so you'll be good with half. I will be back. read more
