It accommodates a party of friends and a quiet night out for a date equally well. The service is friendly and helpful. The staff will check in regularly and make sure everything is up to snuff. The local art on display is a nice reflection of the culture and makes eating here feel more authentic. As for the food, there are a variety of menu options to choose from that you wouldn't otherwise find at other places. You have to try the tlayuda for starters. There's vegetarian and carne. It's like a giant torta! The huarache is another item you'll want to try bc it looks like a sandal topped with meat. In terms of drinks, you can order wine, beer, margaritas, tequila, and horchata. First time at this Mexican restaurant. Came to meet a dear new friend to talk poetry and we had a great conversation as well as great food. Alonzo was our waiter and he was top notch phenomenal service. The place is getting a facelift and it's for the better. The photos on here are pretty old of the outside so I recorded the way it's looking from the outside. I had the cafe de olla (it could be a little hotter) and it was delicious. I was in Chicago for work and I was looking to grab lunch before a flight back home. I wanted something close to Midway.I'm so glad this came up. Chile Toreado was amazing. It was quiet when I went in, and I appreciated that they let me sit in a spot close to an outlet so I could charge my phone and work for a bit. The building seems to be under partial construction, but they are still open. When you go inside, there's a good amount of seating available as well. The service was great. It was also really nice to see how much of a community institution this place is -- several folks spoke to staff/the owners just to catch up. I ordered the chips and guacamole and the vegetarian enchiladas. The chips and guac was delicious. I really liked the salsas they had with these as well. The standout was the vegetarian enchiladas. We decided to go to this part of the city to show some love in the current times. It was highly rated on here so we gave it a try. The staff was super friendly and welcomed us in as we got seated right away. The spot was not a huge spot, but they were also replacing the front wall of windows, so it was smaller than it probably is normally. The Gaucamole was actually flavorful with good crispy, lightly salted chips (1-2 must have had some water in the owl, because they were oddly soggy). All 3 salsas we got were tasty too. My partner really enjoyed the Shrimp. The Cochinita Pibil was also really well done and pretty lean. We'll definitely pin this on our map and return. The crispy chicken milanesa served with the cilantro lime sauce and garlic mashed potatoes were one of the many stars of the show. Enchiladas De Mole were an experience entrenched deep in flavor. I love pickled veggies & really enjoyed the pickled onions on the dishes. If you come here, you must order Tlayuda for the table. It is like a large tostada but w/crispy cracker thin bread baked like a pizza. We always get the veggie version & always a shareable winner. My group decided to order different items on the menu. I went for the crispy chicken. I wanted to get the Barbacoa but my coworker ordered that and I didnt want to repeat. Our food came out in a timely manner. My crispy chicken looked absolutely wonderful. Everyone at my table enjoyed their food for the most part. I ordered the carne asada and the short rib Barbacoa. The carne asada was juicy, tender and seasoned to perfection. It was so good I didn't even want to add salsa accompanied on the dish was flavorful frijoles negro, sweet plantains and ceboitas. Next, was our Barbacoa. It was accompanied by mashed potatos. At first I was like what? No rice? No beans? But being an American/hispanic I always associate Barbacoa with POT ROAST. Haha. So this made sense kinda being served mashed potato's DONT COME AT ME. lol. The mashed potato's were flavorful and fluffy. Another plus was the homemade tortillas.. that's always a win in my book. Another surprising dish was our appetizer Hongos enchipotlados which is basically mushrooms in a chipotle sauce, calabacia, onions and cilantro. The drinks were good as well. We stopped in here for an early dinner after reading previous reviews and overall we're quite happy with that decision. We ordered a couple of different margaritas and they were good. Not great, not crap. But good. For food, one of us ordered a variety of tacos, one ordered a torta, medium spicy, and the other for the chicken mole enchiladas. The tacos were good, with 3 of the 5 being excellent and the other 2 being meh. The carnitas taco was by far the best. Get that one, all day! The torta was tasty and came in a bowl with a very tasty broth. But beware - medium spicy is seriously Midwest hot. You've been warned. We loved it, but we're also not from the Midwest. So... The mole enchiladas were very good. Then chicken was flavorful and super tender. The mole was a little heavy on the cinnamon but still quite good. And the rice that came with it was spectacular. Our server was incredibly nice, efficient and did everything perfectly. The chef also came out and chatted with use near the end of our meal. What a nice guy! The interior of the restaurant was nice, clean and spacious. And they have some outdoor seating as well. I can definitely see myself coming back whenever I'm in the area! read more

It was quite warm inside on a 75 degree day and any thoughts of ordering the pozole soup were quickly dashed. I ordered the mole chicken enchiladas. The chicken was good but I was not a fan of the mole sauce. I got one Al pastor taco and the pork was fatty and a little over cooked. It wasn't busy but was still slow. We came here on 7/9/2023 around 5:30-5:45 and the service was attentive and gracious . The young man serving us was a true gentleman. We had the house made horchata and boy o boy was it delicious. The plantains were a little to thick for us we are use to thinly sliced ones (obviously this is a preference). Green salsa was spot on loved it the red was peppery in a black pepper way not terrible by any means. Barbacoa tacos were delicious the hand made tortillas were perfectly cooked.
