The best food, service, coffee and vibes. I have loved almost everything my husband and I have eaten here so far, we've been around 7 times. The best dishes I've experienced was the vegetarian enchiladas and breakfast dishes. I didnt love the green pozole, but my husband raved about the fish pozole. Give this place a try you won't regret the meal.
I was in Chicago for work and I was looking to grab lunch before a flight back home. I wanted something close to Midway.I'm so glad this came up. Chile Toreado was amazing. It was quiet when I went in, and I appreciated that they let me sit in a spot close to an outlet so I could charge my phone and work for a bit. The building seems to be under partial construction, but they are still open. When you go inside, there's a good amount of seating available as well. The service was great. It was also really nice to see how much of a community institution this place is -- several folks spoke to staff/the owners just to catch up. I ordered the chips and guacamole and the vegetarian enchiladas. The chips and guac was delicious. I really liked the salsas they had with these as well. The standout was the vegetarian enchiladas. I've never had enchiladas like these before. They were delicious!! The sauce was really interesting -- I think it was seed based, maybe? The veggies inside the enchiladas were also great -- a lot of variety inside and seasoned well! Personally, I would have liked more heat, but the salsas made up for it. Go here!!!
We decided to go to this part of the city to show some love in the current times. It was highly rated on here so we gave it a try. The staff was super friendly and welcomed us in as we got seated right away. The spot was not a huge spot, but they were also replacing the front wall of windows, so it was smaller than it probably is normally. The Gaucamole was actually flavorful with good crispy, lightly salted chips (1-2 must have had some water in the owl, because they were oddly soggy). All 3 salsas we got were tasty too. My partner really enjoyed the Shrimp. The Cochinita Pibil was also really well done and pretty lean. We'll definitely pin this on our map and return. They said they have outdoor seating in the summer.
Mmmm... good! The green Mohl posole with chicken was incredibly delicious! My friend ordered the shrimp dish with rice and it was gorgeous and tasty. She ate every bite. I brought the mushrooms and chipotle sauce home for dinner and that was absolutely delicious too. The service was great location was perfect. And it's a really nice restaurant with pretty art.
The nicest folks around, this place punches above its weight. Cloth napkins, servers wiping the rim of the plates, like in a fine dining restaurant. But the real magic is the food: flavorful, well prepared, delicious dishes. We had the al pastor huaraches and the shrimp pozole soup, both delicious and reasonably priced. Another great Mexican restaurant to patronize!
Chile Toreado was delicious. We ordered the chilaquiles and the Mexican skillet and both hit the spot. The chilaquiles came with a thin steak and an omelet style egg, which was different and a good version compared to other chilaquiles l have tried before. The server was attentive, checking on us a few times. Sit down, casual spot for a yummy comforting breakfast - I'll definitely be going back for dinner one day!!
Love this place! We enjoyed both the mild, savory pozole and the tender short rib barbacoa. But the real star is the vegetable tlayuda. The veggies have a rich, charcoal-grilled flavor, on the best thin and crispy crust I've ever had anywhere. It's almost like perfect filo dough, and it's huge! It could be an entree for two. The horchata isn't too sweet and has a pleasing bit of grit. Low-key family ambiance, nothing fancy.
The food was great and quick. The staff was friendly. Super cool small neighborhood spot that still has that neighborhood feel. I had the Mexican Skillet, it was top notch.
Superiorly Spectacular Mexican recipes from the state of Guerrero served in a welcoming setting in McKinley Park. We'd previously enjoyed the fare here before a Wynton Marsalis concert, but our visit today was after attending a Sox game. Upon entering we were immediately greeted & seated. Service was fast, orders were taken swiftly & we were checked on often by our attentive server, Raul. Ordered: Papas Toreadas, Tlayuda Vegetariana, veggie tacos, Mole Chicken Enchiladas, Crispy Chicken Milanesa. The crispy chicken milanesa served with the cilantro lime sauce and garlic mashed potatoes were one of the many stars of the show. Enchiladas De Mole were an experience entrenched deep in flavor. I love pickled veggies & really enjoyed the pickled onions on the dishes. If you come here, you must order Tlayuda for the table. It is like a large tostada but w/crispy cracker thin bread baked like a pizza. We always get the veggie version & always a shareable winner. Toward the end of our meal, the owner, Jaime, came to check on us. We let him know we thoroughly enjoyed the dishes out of kitchen. In our chat, he let us know the recipes came from his mother in Guerrero & thanked us for our visit. We look forward to our return! Get in here!
Came here for cinco de Mayo celebration. My boyfriend found this place. Decided to come here for dinner. Let me say the chicken tinga taco are the bomb. I would come back for that. We both got margarita....delicious I got a TORTA and he got steak. Street parking Would come back!
Yesterday was my first time going into the restaurant. Until now, I've been ordering on Uber eats so I didn't know what the place looked like! When you first walk in, the servers will greet you right away. There's a counter that deals with the take out and delivery. Then there's tables for the customers to seat at. My group decided to order different items on the menu. I went for the crispy chicken. I wanted to get the Barbacoa but my coworker ordered that and I didnt want to repeat. Our food came out in a timely manner. My crispy chicken looked absolutely wonderful. Everyone at my table enjoyed their food for the most part. Everyone's taste buds are different so favoring was either missing or just enough. To me, everything tasted wonderful! I will be back in the future.

A little bit of heaven for Brunch. I just was back in Chicago and HAD to stop by for Brunch. Boy O Boy was it good. Kicked things off with some Prosecco following up with the Mexican Skillet (and added some carnitas to it). Throw in some tortillas and salsa and it doesn't get any better. My cohorts wolfed down the Chilaquiles Toreados so fast I am not sure the plates actually hit the table. So if you want a great meal with great folks make sure you stop by CHILE TOREADO at your earliest convenience. read more
This spot is an absolute gem. It's not necessarily a hole in the wall, but it's definitely a neighborhood restaurant for locals and those willing to branch out from Pilsen and other areas that are a little nicer. It accommodates a party of friends and a quiet night out for a date equally well. The service is friendly and helpful. The staff will check in regularly and make sure everything is up to snuff. The local art on display is a nice reflection of the culture and makes eating here feel more authentic. As for the food, there are a variety of menu options to choose from that you wouldn't otherwise find at other places. You have to try the tlayuda for starters. There's vegetarian and carne. It's like a giant torta! The huarache is another item you'll want to try bc it looks like a sandal topped with meat. In terms of drinks, you can order wine, beer, margaritas, tequila, and horchata. Nice when you want to dine in. Chile Toreado is a local spot you'll want to visit on a regular basis because of the good food, service, and value. read more
First time at this Mexican restaurant. Came to meet a dear new friend to talk poetry and we had a great conversation as well as great food. Alonzo was our waiter and he was top notch phenomenal service. The place is getting a facelift and it's for the better. The photos on here are pretty old of the outside so I recorded the way it's looking from the outside. I had the cafe de olla (it could be a little hotter) and it was delicious. The appetizer we had was the mushroom in salsa Roja. Sooo delicious. Highly recommend this. Tortilla la made from scratch so good. Since it was Good Friday we had a vegetarian meal. I had the veggie sopes and that was delicious. My dear friend had the shrimp chile rellenos and that too was deli read more

We decided to order in from a restaurant we'd never tried and Chile Toreado made the cut! We got the Pibil and Carne Asada tortas and they were amazing and full of flavor. Their horchata is exactly what I wanted and hit the spot. We'd been passing by this place on Uber Eats and that was our loss. It's close enough we might have to pull up and try everything fresh! Give a new restaurant a try! read more

Love this place - my friend suggested this restaurant and it did not disappoint! I appreciate that they have a nice selection of vegetarian options. In fact, my favorite entree is their veggie enchiladas. It is so unique in that the salsa they use is a toasted peanut salsa that SO WELL with the roasted vegetables. The portions are bigger than average which is a plus Overall, it's a super friendly spot and I will be coming back! read more
Wow! The appetizer was the best thing I had at this place. The tlayuda was the size of a small pizza and had mushrooms, zucchini, cheese, and so many other things. It came on a thin crust which was perfect. Who thought vegetables on a dish like this without meat could be SO GOOD?! I want to go there again and order 3 orders of that dish just for myself. The carne en su jugo was good, but not necessarily mind blowing. The meat tasted slightly crisped and it was good. The pinto beans were made right. The mojo (pronounced "mo-ho") shrimp was pretty good and had moist rice. The shrimp easily came out of their shells and the green beans were cooked well. I really want to try their award-winning torta milanesa. read more

I am repeat customer and I have to confess that all the dishes I have ordered and consumed were all delicious. A tip of the hat to Chef Jaime who I have introduced myself and commented on his cooking of these dishes. I will be returning to try another selection. read more

A lovely restaurant in the tight-knit community of McKinley park. If I didn't live near by I'd still make my here to have some good eats. Service was great. Staff was attentive. I ordered the carne asada and the short rib Barbacoa. The carne asada was juicy, tender and seasoned to perfection. It was so good I didn't even want to add salsa accompanied on the dish was flavorful frijoles negro, sweet plantains and ceboitas. Next, was our Barbacoa. It was accompanied by mashed potatos. At first I was like what? No rice? No beans? But being an American/hispanic I always associate Barbacoa with POT ROAST. Haha. So this made sense kinda being served mashed potato's DONT COME AT ME. lol. The mashed potato's were flavorful and fluffy. Another plus was the homemade tortillas.. that's always a win in my book. Another surprising dish was our appetizer Hongos enchipotlados which is basically mushrooms in a chipotle sauce, calabacia, onions and cilantro. The drinks were good as well. I've ordered the tacos and sopes a handful of times off of Uber eats and was never disappointed. I cannot wait to try the carne en su juego, huraches, and pozole. I will Definitely be updating this review to the next star. read more

I was staying at an Air BNBn the neighborhood and was looking for something within walking distance. This was a mile away so I decided to walk here. It was quite warm inside on a 75 degree day and any thoughts of ordering the pozole soup were quickly dashed. I ordered the mole chicken enchiladas. The chicken was good but I was not a fan of the mole sauce. I got one Al pastor taco and the pork was fatty and a little over cooked. It wasn't busy but was still slow. If I lived here I might come back to try something else. But then again I think I would just take the extra time to ride the metro into the loop and find somewhere to eat. read more

02/26/22 - I was starving @ 4pm as I hadn't eaten anything all day and I had a craving for some tacos. I found Chile Toreado on Yelp @ 2022 W 35th Street. I ordered a three taco dinner that came w/excellent black beans w/queso cheese, rice & guacamole. The three tacos I ordered were 1 marinated Al pastor that was outstanding & I wish I ordered all al pastor. They were that good. The carne asada was also very good. Chili Toreado is located at 2022 W 35th street on the south side. Good food good service worth checking out read more

A nice neighborhood restaurant that serves quality cuisine. I follow them on Facebook to see what the weekend special will be. It's usually a very creative dish, the plating is always beautifully done, and the taste is always spot on. The owner always comes out to check on his guests. The staff is friendly and helpful, they will help you with the menu (especially if you have a special diet). Street parking only, however, it's free (no meters). Highly recommend! read more
