Unfortunately, my experience at Maricamp Emergency Care in Ocala was very disappointing…read more I came in with high blood pressure and severe nasal congestion. Dr. Cho's bedside manner left a lot to be desired. During the visit, he actually stepped away from me as though I had the plague, which made me feel uncomfortable and dismissed. I paid a $250 copay, only to later receive an additional bill for $578.84. After all of that, I left with no diagnosis, no medication, and essentially, "You're fine. I don't see anything." To make matters worse, my urine specimen was never collected. I was discharged, and my sample was still sitting in the exam room when I left. That doesn't inspire confidence in the thoroughness of the evaluation. Thankfully, I was able to visit the health clinic at my job afterward. The nurse practitioner there took the time to evaluate my symptoms, diagnosed what turned out to be a bacterial infection affecting my ears, and prescribed amoxicillin. Within a few days, I was feeling much better. My copay was only $10, and I haven't received any surprise bills. I will say that the intake nurse was kind and professional, and I appreciated her attitude. One thing that also stood out is that there is no traditional front desk. You check yourself in electronically, and someone calls you on the phone to collect your payment electronically while you're waiting. Considering there appears to be very little administrative interaction, I'm left wondering what exactly the nearly $830 in charges covered. Based on my experience, I won't be returning. Next time, I'll save myself the frustration, the expense, and the surprise billing by going to my workplace clinic instead.
