Love your restaurants, your staff is incredible at all locations, and the food is to die for... We're in Peoria usually every week and one of our first stops is always Childers (I have to have my shrimp and grits). this week we stopped at Grand Prairie, ordered my usual, and the waitress informed me that you changed the recipe and are not adding andouille sausage to the shrimp and grits anymore, but substituted it with bacon?! for the life of me I can't figure out why you would mess with success, yes, the bacon was a nice touch, but that should be in there anyway in addition to the andouille sausage. And don't get me started on you removing chorizo biscuits, and gravy off the menu lol. OK, thanks for letting me vent, maybe you could reconsider and bring back the favorites again. read more

Eggs fried medium were very good. The bacon was very small and broken apart. I don't even know how many pieces there were because it was all broken into pieces. Wheat toast was just ok. Probably just cheap grocery store bread. Hashed browns were terrible. Cold and absolutely no flavor. Too bad. I used to really like Childers. read more

The food was so yummy and the service was friendly and prompt! The atmosphere is also very elegant. Will go again!

After living in several Midwest areas, Childer's is still my favorite breakfast place of all time. The food tastes great, the portions are great, the price is reasonable. Still new to the area but have been here twice now and the vibes are pretty decent. Servers don't blow you away but they get the job done. The place has indoor and outdoor seating for those beautiful weekends. The food tasted made to order, I had the breakfast burrito which had good seasoning but the salsa helped out with that. Their drink menu is our fav as they have a few good brunch bevs to choose from. Would recommended and come back. Think they need a lil more hands to help as there was dirty dishes left after customers a lil longer than they should but everyone is having staffing issues, so it's forgivable. We came here for Easter brunch! The staff was very friendly and there was no wait! I really like the interior of the restaurant, it was stylish and fresh. I ordered the Butternut Squash, Kale , & Pepita Tacos which was so good and came with these chips that were seasoned to perfection. I would buy a bag of them if I could! The tacos were a great portion and I felt very healthy eating them. They had some great flavors! My friend ordered the Harrisa Shakshuka which our waitress enthusiastically recommended and my friend says she was not disappointed! Our waitress also brought our more naan for her because the ratio of stuff & naan was off. Overal it was a very pleasant visit and we were both content with our meals and experience! My wife and I eat out a lot. We have eaten at all 3 of Childers locations in Peoria,Il for (breakfast only) for many years. The University location always have a full house on Sunday's regardless of what time we go. You may have a little wait time.The Junction City location seems larger and also rather busy with a little wait time during the same time frame. The War Memorial restaurant usually is not as crowded and you usually can get seated right away. The food is cooked just right and ALWAYS fast and hot at all 3 locations. Service is off the chain at all locations. Very friendly employees. For my choice of the three,we go to the University location more.You don't go wrong at either of the locations! read more

I had to order delivery because I'm in a cast. I ordered a large breakfast to start this day off right. I asked for extra brown, extra crispy hash browns. You know, put some brown in those hash browns. They are barely cooked. The potatoes are white on one side and barely tan on the other. I spent $30 to have breakfast delivered from a nice place. The eggs were good, the bacon good, the pancakes cold and the hash browns not cooked. I'm just waiting anyway, I could have waited for the potatos to be cooked. Amazing breakfast place!! Fantastic, unique menu. I had such a hard time choosing what to order. There was s'mores french toast and churro waffles on the menu! However, I decided to get the lemon berry French toast with a side of bacon. It was all delicious! My only complaint is that there were flies EVERYWHERE. We were sitting inside but there is a lot of tables outside too. Went there with high expectations! However- disappointed!! The most frustrating thing - for breakfast- was their coffee. Decaf was like warm and weak. Said it was fresh and that is as hot as it gets--!?! It's coffee! The caffeinated one was barely warm, as well. A bit stronger - but didn't crave another cup-!?! Terrible coffee - and isn't that supposed to be the best part!?! Well - the French toast with berries was so disappointing - the lemon Mascarpone was melted and pooling in my plate. The French toast had many dry areas, that were just bread. Only a few bites with a melt in your mouth custard- that makes French toast good. The fruit was fine. I love Childers! The menu has plenty of options for everyone! I've been here several times and it is my go to spot for brunch or lunch. Anytime my husband asks where I want to go... it's usually here . Lol. It is child friendly. My friend's daughter always gets the "teddy bear pancakes" so cute... comes with chocolate chips, whipped cream, and maraschino cherries. The food is consistently good! Service can be hit or miss... sometimes I feel like they are not very attentive and other times they are. Today wasn't terribly busy (compared to other days I've been) and more than one person in my group pointed out their dissatisfaction with the service. Service was also very slow which didn't make sense because it wasn't very busy! With this being said, the staff seems to usually be very nice. Decor is on point! Love all of the greenery inside! They have a ton of drink options... caffeinated beverages, alcoholic beverages, teas, etc... I seem to always order an iced almond milk miel from here - this seems to vary in flavor, but for the most part good (I mean I get it almost every time I'm here). My current obsession is the broccoli bacon Gouda omelet... sooo flavorful and filling! It comes with a side and bread of your choice. I've had several other items off the menu... BREAKFAST: Chilaquiles -LOVE this, but big enough to share with another person... can't finish on my own. Corned beef hash - love this as well! Diablo Benedict - nice variation from a normal bene. Peoria's best breakfast -can't go wrong with this... has all the breakfast staples. Breakfast sandwich on an everything bagel- prob one of my favorites! Chicken & waffles - need I say more?! The biscuits and gravy are yummy and savory. Sides: Cottage fries are sautéed potatoes, onions, & I believe peppers - very good but can be greasy. Hash browns- yum LUNCH: Caprese Chicken focaccia - this is okay, but not my fav. Fried green tomato bourbon BLT - LOVE (prob my fav sandwich so far). Haven't had a taco salad but it seems very popular and I'd like to try it one day! I feel like I go towards breakfast usually, but can't wait to try some more lunch items some time! Came here while visiting friends who live locally. I love breakfast foods, so I never pass up a brunch/breakfast invite. Our pals informed us right off the bat that this place was "hit or miss". Our experience was clearly a miss. Our table of 4 was seated pretty quickly despite the busy line of large parties at the door. First impression: our table was wobbly. Like dangerously so when we all ordered coffee. To make room at the table, I moved all the caddies up on the ledge. It was clear that the staff cleaned around these when wiping down the table. There was crumbs, sticky residue and pieces of paper littered behind the caddies. Gross. Our server was pleasant enough. Seemed competent, but nothing stood out as excellent. Food came. Not even our plates were hot, let alone the food being even remotely warm. I'm not talking like warm it sat in the pass window for a few extra minutes, I mean room temperature. I ordered the lox Benedict. I know, the lox wouldn't be warm by any means, but the muffin, egg, and hollandaise wasn't even warm, let alone the plate. What? I thought maybe it was just me, I order Benedicts a lot and know they can be temperamental. My husband ordered the skillet and that wasn't even warm either. I kind of picked up on that when the expo that dropped it off literally grabbed the cast iron skillet handle to put the dish on the table. Our friends meals were also room temperature. There is a big rave about this place in our little town. So I gave them another try and I wasn't disappointed. I loved their menu choices....they go on and on. They had a few decent vegetarian options and their outside patio seating is a plus (although you overlook a parking lot). Everything had good flavor and service was good.
