Double order of Tacos, Hot Dog and Large Tea

What can I say, Chicos Tacos is unique in what they sell, and have to be doing it good to be in business since the 1950's. Quality food and decent prices. Service is quick and atmosphere is a simple taco stand. The food though, no one does what they do, so it's not easy to compare it to other places. They're just good.

On our anniversary trip to NM, my wife wanted me to get the full experience, so we stopped at the original Chico's Tacos as soon as we got off the plane in El Paso. Rolled taco heaven! I love a little hole in the wall staple, and this checked all the boxes, for sure. They had an old CD jukebox right next to the entrance. Cash only, but they have an ATM inside. We ate a quick dinner for less than $20!

UHMAZING!! OMG!! I missed this food, THIS RESTAURANT has the best flautas (taquitos) in Texas, I ordered the double, mmm took me back to when I use to live here in the 80's. This is the only Chicos Tacos I'll come to from now on when visiting El Paso. The others use the fake cheese, canned tomatoes for the sauce.. I 100% recommend the Original Chicos Tacos.

Double order with a Hot dog.. Great time with my grandson and family it's a tradition by now

    Two double orders of tacos

Only getting a star for efficiency. "Tacos" tasted like they were fried in old grease and the sauce they drown them in was so watery it didn't stick, just turned them to mush. My oldest and I didn't even attempt the food and my husband and two younger boys ended up throwing away 3/4 of their order. Thankfully, we were in and out in under 20 minutes at lunch time. Waste of $25.

First time trying Chico's tacos and you can't beat the prices. The only downside and the main reason for this review is because it's a cash only restaurant. The guy behind the register seemed annoyed that I didn't know the menu and had to tell me "cash only " They do have an ATM but beware because it double charges you!

Had to have these when I come to town. They have slowly been losing their greatness. Very sad.

Iconic El Paso! Had to visit this one! My son had heard about this for so long so we added it to the itenarary! We didn't make it to the original location but this one didn't disappoint. It was crowded even at 2 pm but we ordered quickly. Order was super fast. The tacos are more what I know as flautas. They come in single order of three or an order of six. If you want to try an iconic El Paso place check this one out.

Double with fries and salsa verde

This place is so nostalgic and it's still so good! I always get the double with cheese, crinkle fries, and salsa on the side. Dipping the fries is next level and somehow the flautas don't get overly soggy even though they're deliciously submerged in a rich tomato based sauce. The flautas aren't the only amazing thing on the menu, they're burgers are a classic smash burger that surpasses any fast food burger. Definitely stray at some point to try it. Lastly I love they still have a few arcade games for whoever to play. I remember as a kid waiting for our food or finishing fast to go play them. Such a classic gem of a spot for El Paso.

So....my buddy and I are doing a super mega green chile cheeseburger trip through New Mexico in the upcoming days, but we flew into El Paso to start the journey. Had always wanted to come here and finally made it today! We pulled up and walked inside and placed my order for a double order of tacos, an order of fries, and a Coke. My total was just over $10.00. They give you a number and then you pick up your food at the counter. Here is how everything was................. Double Order of Tacos- These "tacos" were pretty tasty. They came 6 to an order, covered in their red sauce and topped with shredded cheddar cheese. The tacos/taquitos are ground beef and are rolled tight, crispy and crunchy. The tacos themselves were bomb. I wasn't that big of a fan of the red sauce though. Too soupy and watery and bland tasting. Their little green salsa cups were pretty good. Fries- Crinkle cut fries. Unsalted, and luke warm. Not disgusting, but I only ate about half of them Coke- Good fountain Coke. Sweet and delicious! Am I coming back? If I lived in El Paso, yes. Am I flying here specifically to come back to Chicos? Naw.

Home cooked rolled up tacos are a MUST here. Sauced up and topped with grated cheese... YUM. Crunchy on the outside and warm + cooked to perfection on the inside. Salsa is good if you like spicy! Fries are.... Okay. Nothing special about them but it's a good side to have. The vibe is definitely an oldies feel. Been around for about 55 years and it's a local gem if you wanna get to know more of the city. We went around noon on a Monday and it was packed! So you know this place gets all the business. Didn't have trouble finding parking though, I'm sure you won't either.

I had been told by several people that I had to try Chicos tacos. My husband had even been a few years ago with his friend when we visited El Paso. This time I had to try them when we were in town with family. I don't know what all the fuss is about unfortunately, but this place was busy as a bee and food with stacked on trays as they came out to eat at their tables. My sisters and I just couldn't get into them I tried one maybe number two maybe number three but it just wasn't what I thought it would be. The taquitos were good deep-fried crunchy, I think it was the ground beef that kind of turned us off, it wasn't very flavorful. It's too bad because I was really looking forward to being on board and just telling everybody about how great they really are. It must just be a local thing is the only thing I can think of.

Chico's Tacos seems to be a very divisive spot amongst the patrons that walk through the doors. It's either a hit or a miss, but what if I told you it was neither? The spot has an old school cool charm about it while also being pretty affordable. However, the food itself leaves more to be desired particularly with the meat within the flautas. I find that there could be more flavor there to balance out the great flavors of the tomato sauce and cheese. Is it overhyped? Maybe if you're new to the establishment. But to many people in the city, Chico's Tacos is a part of the culture. Chico's Tacos provides a lot of people with good memories and nostalgia and look - food is more than physical satisfaction. It's also an emotional one as well and if someone always comes here and leaves with a smile on their face then more power to them! With that said, I would give them a 3.5/5 if I could, but I must round so I will do 3/5 because I still think they're a decent spot to come at least once.

    Time to try it Fluffy!

Beans and rice on the side are optional / modest extra charge - they are usually very good and worth adding if you're hungry enough. My favorite sauce is the Chipotle. It's got heat as it's also creamy...I would call it medium (I like spicy food.) If you're getting them to go, you might want the sauce and toppings on the side. They usually ask about that, but occasionally they might forget. Service is usually friendly and efficient even when they are busy. Your food is made to order, so it's fast but not instantaneous. Allow 5-10 minutes for pickup most of the time. The dining room is medium-sized. I would say it's a place to eat and go, not stay and linger.

We ordered the flautas with chipotle sauce and the chilaquiles with half red and half green sauce. The chilaquiles were absolutely amazing. We added a runny egg since we couldn't do chicken, and it gave the dish extra flavor and a good boost of protein. The flautas (which I'd honestly describe more as taquitos dorados) were crunchy and tasty. We liked the chipotle sauce that came with them, but we actually loved dipping them into the chilaquile sauce even more. Overall, it was a great spot to grab breakfast before hitting the road again for many more hours. Highly recommend!

Which were good (lacked a little crisp but had good flavor). The green salsa at the table was fantastic, a little slice but a ton of flavor. Everything was fresh, the chips were freshly baked, the rice was not day old rice like at so many places around here it was good and actually had some flavor, the beans were good (the bright orange color of the beans surprised me, turmeric? Regardless they were delicious). Unfortunately the meat had zero spices, not even salt. The only reason not taking off a star is the salsa paired perfectly with the shredded beef tacos and the green chili burger, but a little bit of salt would have elevated the meal for sure. There was no salt on the meat in any of the meals we'd ordered. The coffee was good and strong, the mugs weren't tiny little mugs they actually gave you enough coffee to enjoy and the experience over all was wonderful. My mom spoke Spanish, I border on no sabo, pero intendo and my kids speak no Spanish at all, the menu was all Spanish but the waitress was patient and sweet with every order. A splash of Texas and a sprinkle of Mexican bring this BBQ to over the top flavor town. Yup, I said. I envoked the Guy Fiere-ism. The BBQ is only available Fri-Sun, and it's located inside Fanatics on Montwood and Lee Trevino. The bar is a little divey, but it's clean and spacious. The times we've gone it's never super full, and the micheladas are cold. The bloody Mary's are on point if you like some spicy kick. Papamigos has an extra special Sun brunch yumminess as well. Check out their IG for pics. I haven't tried it, but we've tried their whole regular menu and nom nom nom. Here are some of our favs: The brisket is the most tender I've had. They have an AMAZING brisket taco with freshly homemade tortillas topped with an egg. Sigh! Foodiegasm! The pulled pork is tender and flavorful. It's little pork pillows of bursting flavor. The pork ribs are fall of the bone tender. My husband, an avid griller and smoker, took several mins to say something. That silence spoke volumes! The macaroni and coleslaw salads. These are not your traditional sides. They're light and compliment the BBQ perfectly. The coleslaw is a vinger slaw that is flavorful but light and balances the fattiness of the meats perfectly. The macaroni is this awesome combo of macaroni and elote. It's light and citrusy and comes topped with tajin. Just taste it. None of that heavy mayo mess here. (Trigger warning for mayo lovers.) The salsas are all homemade and have flavor but don't overpower all the smokey flavor they put into the meat. Below are pics of what we had today. The sausage bites and a two meat combo. This was more than enough for two people. Extra special: The place is run by brothers. They are orignially from the Valley but moved to EP. One of them always come out to check on you and ask about the flavor. Some might not like the chit-chat, but we do. It's quite clear they care about the food their making, and the food tastes like the love they put into it.
