My friend and I tried this small and very old low-scale place close to work. We had heard that their menudo is the best, but unfortunately, my friend's try was very bad. We ordered the bistec torta, chicharron burrito, Mexican plate. We had to wait about 20 minutes for our food, and it wasn't very busy at all. The torta is pretty decent, but the chicharron burrito is very bad, and the salsa that was provided had no salt added to it at all. My friend's Mexican plate was just okay. An El Paso classic little hole in the wall restaurant that used to be open 24 hours a day. However, I am not sure if they still do open 24 hours a day since the covid years. The cook is extremely nice and made 4 breakfast plates in about 15 minutes. We came on a Monday morning around 8 am, and it was not busy. The waitress was very nice and very attentive. Decided to came here since the next door restaurant had a line out the door and we didn't want to wait 30 minutes. We came here and was promptly seated, the server was nice and got us water quickly. The menudo was one of the best I've had in El Paso, really tasty broth with soft tender chunks of tripe and comes with a side of toasted bread. Great portion for the money. Confession time... I've never ate at Lucky Cafe before... until today. Located somewhere between UMC and Downtown on Alameda (I think)... is a local favorite. For as long as I can remember, I've heard their menudo is 2nd to none. Maybe another day, I test that theory. A good friend @elcamarojoe68 recommended it. And dude knows a think or two about food, I tell ya. He suggested the Lucky Burger, and you know I always go for the burger with the company's name on it. There was a double lucky, but after eating H&H right before, I don't think I would've been able to finish it. The service was really good here. Waitress's eye contact was stronger than other places. The bun was warm, buttery, crispy on the inside. Burger had mustard on the bottom with the LTOP. On top of that was a nice thin crispy fresh patty. Nicely seasoned. Nice share from the flat grill. Ham, bacon and weenies on top of that. I don't normally order hamburgers with ham and weenies, but this one hit different. Very similar taste to the H&H Carwash burger but with added flavors from the pork products. Nice touch. 8.8/10. My only knock was it was overly greasy from the butter, bacon and hamburger patty. I love grease as much as the next guy, but it was overly done. If you like overly greasy burgers, then this might be a 9.6/10 for you. read more

4/26/19 1:30 pm I has a better explanation for this local joint. Unfortunately the customer service is off way off. My server Marisol proof on pictures of receipt was terrible. Serious, seemed unhappy and unwilling. At the end I asked for a small menudo to go and when I took my order the menudo was all over the bag l. Bread soaked everything soaked in menudo juice. She stacked the lemons and cilantro on top of the menudo causing the menudo container to collapse I called the establishment to let a manager know what occurred but Marisol answered and kept hanging the phone up. I recognized her voice (over life voice) Laughing and rude. I don't know why when I asked for a manager without stating the cause. Marisol is the female who wears glasses. read more

I love this place. Always open, (today is 1/1/19) and only serves bomb food. It's the definition of hole in the wall, but proudly honors that title. Today I ordered the Chile Verde plate and ice tea. Finished the whole plate. (So long diet) I've read the menudo is incredible and so are their burgers. People around me are eating a variety of plates so I think it's safe to order anything from the menu. They have a single seating bar viewing the cook, booths and tables. Kids are welcome. They do accept cash and major credit cards. Gender neutral restroom. On site parking and street parking available. Close to UMC hospital. Sweet spot to know. Enjoy! read more

We had breakfast this morning at Lucky Cafe. Firstly, I will say the place looked incredibly clean. The coffee was hot, tasted good and they kept it coming. I had a large menudo (way too much for one person) and it was very, very good. Rich broth and clean tripe. I was disappointed in the temperature, however, as it was just lukewarm. I will make sure to check this the next time before I season it up with onions, cilantro, etc, so that I can send it back to be heated up. I also had a side of refried beans and they were amazing. Real refrieds straight out of the pan with a nice gooey center of melted cheese. My dining companions had the enchiladas and an omelet and both were very satisfied. The salsa is also great. It is almost like green chile with pork and seems to be a little warmed up. I must say, however, the chips did seem like they may have been from a bag. All in all really good food, in a clean atmosphere, with very friendly servers. I will return!!! read more

Ehhhhh. That's the only thing I can think of to say that can explain my experience at Lucky Cafe. It was all just very lackluster both in taste and presentation. I don't think my visit was a fluke, I think the previous reviews may have been a little inflated. I ordered the Machaca which I normally love from anywhere (even chains like Ihop), but LC's Machaca was extremely bland. Everything on the plate was bland. It wasn't terrible food, but it definitely is not the best Mexican food in EP. Maybe I went wrong with ordering off the menu because the Menudo seems to be the talk of the town (or at least Yelp), so if I venture here again that's what I'll be trying and I'll update my review. Atmosphere wise, it's a bit cramped (even at 3 am). It kind of reminds me of the eateries in Juarez I used to go to as a kid. It's pretty interesting to be around, but I don't know that I'll become a regular any time soon. I was a little disappointed that they serve canned soda. Like at least if you're going to serve canned soda make sure it's from Mexico (whaaaaaaat...I like the real sugar). read more

I haven't had menudo in years, which is hard to find near my home. Since I was in El Paso I found this place and headed there as they have menudo 24/7. I went in a little after 8am on MLK Day and sat at the counter. I ordered a small menudo and coffee. Within minutes my menudo arrived with all the fixings, and I was in heaven. It was so expertly made that I'm going back for breakfast tomorrow! The small was plenty for me, but they offer a large for just a dollar more. The restaurant itself is old, and situated in a working class neighborhood. The place was moderately busy while I was there. Menudo and coffee cost me about $7.00. Amazing bargain. The only flaw I found was the counter where I sat showed obvious signs of heavy use and could have used a more thorough wipe down between customers. read more

We thought that we were at the Good Luck cafe (we stopped too soon - next time), but we're still "Lucky" to find this place. Bustling, colorful breakfast cafe, with waitresses slinging coffee, patrons in cowboy hats, hoodies and suits and ties. Lots of clanging and sizzling in the kitchen, just like a good breakfast place should be. Breakfast items are standard El Paso fare - eggs, enchiladas, beans, pancakes, menudo. All hot and fresh. My pancakes had a nice crispness to the bottom - not rubbery. I'm pretty sure that we were the only non-Spanish speakers. I had the chilaquiles, my husband had the machaca and my dad had the huevos rancheros. All of these were so delicious! Ordered coffee, menudo with a toasted bolillo, the Lucky Breakfast (3 pancakes, 2 eggs, bacon) and a plate of rice and beans for the table. The menudo was a bit bland, and served lukewarm, but it was "clean" (no fatty clumps), with a good balance of tripe and hominy. The bread, however was definately at least day old, stale bread from a local bakery, toasted to a hard crunch. The pancakes tasted like they had been sitting out for a while and were a bit hard. The place was packed so we waited 10 minutes for a corrected egg (ordered scrambled and got over-easy) and a coffee refill. Wait staff was very nice though. read more

After driving all day (eating breakfast in Phoenix) we were ready for dinner but stopped in Las Cruces, NM just to have the 9pm closing restaurant close @ 8:30pm, as we rolled it. So needless to say we just wanted something good. When we saw it was open 24hrs we were happy, no matter what the food was like. Good thing I speak Spanish, or the kids' burger would of had all the sides they didn't like. But no biggie. Witnessed a client sneezing over a basket with lemons and after they (clients) left, the unused lemons were put back in the container for further used. He salted and.peppered it in front of me, but it lacked flavor. Same goes for red enchiladas. Chili had no flavor, but there was plenty of cheese , cheese taste was mediocre.
