Quirky little spot in the Segundo Barrio. Senator Shapleigh Special had huevos a la mexicana, beans, chile colorado, avocado and tortilla. Portion was small. Chile had tender meat and good flavor, but only had a couple pieces of meat and potatoes. Eggs had too much onion for my taste, Beans were a bit runny. Flour tortilla was freshly made and delicious. Avocado wasn't ripe. Overall the place was decent, but I felt the breakfast plate was a tad bit overpriced. They need to update their menus.

Wow! This place is located in the heart of the Segundo Barrio! Excellent authentic home made Mexican food, just like my Nana use to make! We came on Sunday and it was packed, mainly with to-go orders of Menudo! Overall, amazing food and the waitress was super friendly with fast service!!! All of our food was freshly prepared!!! We ordered pancakes, Huevos con Chorizo, Enchiladas Montadas, and Menudo! Reasonably priced-make sure and take cash!!!! We will be back...

Jalisco Cafe has the best menudo and barbacoa in town. I love how nice the staff is and the food is always great.

Ain't all that. Is this what they call TexMex food? I was not impressed one bit Padma Lakshmi shouldn't give advice in food she knows nothing about

My wife and I came here because of the history of this restaurant and it's ties to the city. Additionally, Padma from Taste the Nation, came and visited El Paso, and she also went to Jalisco Cafe. Very friendly people, affordable and plentiful, tasty as well. I'd go back the next time we visit!

Delicious food!! Definitely a hole in the wall restaurant, delicious food...homemade and authentic. The place itself is old and rundown. But don't let that scare you. They also only take cash but there's an ATM inside.

First we do not speak anything but English but wanted to try a small local Mexican restaurant for breakfast. This place has about ten booths. They speak very little English. My wife ordered Eggs and chorizo breakfast and I ordered a egg and chorizo sandwich. To day it was good would be an understatement. Service was friendly and all the guest says hi as they walking in.

Jalisco Café is that small, family-owned restaurant that so many Yelpers love to find. I had the ham & cheese torts and a chorizo burrito. Both were excellent. The brothers that waited on me were great and conversation and overall it was a wonderful experience. Menudo is what they are known for but they only serve it on weekends. Will update this review after eating their menudo.

Always to go Menudo. Always empty plates. Thanks for this proven method of the to go menudo.

Not a bad I left for the Navy in 1984 and my family on the Bowie side loved Jalisco y did as well. My spouse lived there a couple of blocks away. And my suegra would send me to Menudo by the ladle at Jalisco. Just amazing. The people are always helpful. Specially Navy Veteran Hector is a great person and the Menudo is nothing less than SUPERB!!! THANKS VERY VERY MUCH. Definetly an El Chuco staple. Very respectfully, H. Melchor Disabled Navy Veterano. Hooyah The Journey Continues. The pic shows my family loves this Menudo always empty plates. Support local. ATM!!!

Socially distancing in line for fantastic menudo!

What an awesome find on our road trip back to Texas! Fantastic Menudo! In fact there were lines out the door! The place is quaint, very clean and masks and social distancing is followed! The refried beans don't get any bette! Thank you Jalisco cafe!

Jalisco cafe puts the 'ole' in hole in the wall. Their website says they've been serving meals for 50 years but I'm sure the building is at least 150 years old and no doubt Pancho Villa and General Pershing shared a bowl of soup here. Jalisco is located on the eastern edge of downtown in an ancient neighborhood where Mexican food eateries are found every 50 feet. And any serious Mexican food diner had better mark the spot on their GPS. My first visit to Jalisco was in 1975 when Cathedral HS coach Manny Aguilar took me there for a lunch of Caldo de Res. In the 44 years since then every bowl of caldo I have eaten anywhere has been measured against the standard set by Jalisco. But until now I had never been there for breakfast. Looking for a difference, yelp reviews brought us here. Parking is a shot in the dark and we came close to giving up but I'm so glad we found a spot. As other reviewers have said, do not let the exterior if the building scare you off. You will really miss a treat if you do. Upon entering we were immediately greeted like long lost family. I can't remember a friendlier restaurant staff. The seating area is a bit small and the booths are somewhat tight to sit in. If you have a redneck belly like me you might need a lot of napkins. Reviewers had raved about the menudo and chorizo so we opted for both. The chorizo and egg burrito was made on a freshly made flour tortilla and was every bit as good as we heard. But I came for menudo. How do you say "increíble" in English: INCREDIBLE. Jalisco makes their menudo differently from most other places which is really nice for variety. I am going on record that the best menudos in Texas are Jalisco's, Jaime's Hut, and the Good Luck Cafe. They are 1-2-3, but I will not tell you which order I rate them. You'll have to do that yourself. Suffice it to say that all the other great menudos (L&j, La Malinche,Lunch Box, Mundos, Lucy's, Martha's) in El Paso are battling for 4th place. Live music was an added extra and lollipops at checkout made my day. Go early and go often but when you see me coming get out of my way or you might get trampled.

I had just flown in from the airport, and my brother arranged it as a special family gathering. Everything started normally: we were seated, ordered our food, received our drinks, and enjoyed the complimentary chips and salsa. Then my sister (who is LGBTQ+) stepped away to use the restroom. When she returned and sat down, a manager approached our table and loudly told her--in front of other diners--that "MEN cannot use the female restroom." My sister was mortified and humiliated by the public confrontation. The manager's tone and assumption were shocking and clearly discriminatory. We immediately got up and left without eating. This wasn't about enforcing any legitimate policy; it was rude, insensitive, and targeted. My adult sister is perfectly capable of reading the restroom signs herself--no one needed to police or shame her in such a way. The incident felt rooted in homophobia and transphobia from management. We will never return to this place, and we will actively discourage others--especially LGBTQ+ individuals and allies--from patronizing it. What should have been a joyful family milestone was ruined by bigotry. Avoid this establishment if you value respect and inclusivity.

Unfortunately, that loyalty came to an end after a recent experience that was both disappointing and unacceptable. My family and I chose this restaurant to celebrate a birthday. Every guest paid separately, and there were no issues during the evening itself. However, as the event concluded, multiple attendees, including family members and in-laws, overheard servers making derogatory comments about our party. Among the remarks were that we were "ungrateful," "cheap," and "broke," along with other inappropriate comments that no customer should ever have to hear. I brought the matter to the attention of ownership, hoping for a meaningful resolution. While I was told the employees had been reprimanded, the proposed remedy was a $25 gift card. After nearly 18 years of patronage, the response felt dismissive and only added insult to injury. What disappoints me most is not simply the behavior of the staff, but the lack of accountability and concern shown afterward. This was a place I once considered a reliable and welcoming destination for family gatherings and celebrations. Sadly, that trust has been lost. As a result, I will no longer be returning or recommending this establishment to friends, family, or colleagues. Respect for customers should be a fundamental part of any hospitality business, and in this case, that standard was not met.

I bumped it up to four stars for the super friendly service and the excellent aguas frescas. We got there late, about an hour before closing and they were literally trying to get rid of the aguas for free. I guess they have to dump it if they don't use it all. It was close to our hotel so we gave it a try. Portion sizes are good. The taco platter comes with six tacos! I had the flautas Chinampa which came with four beef flautas, beans, rice, and salad. I forgot, the taco platter even came with a baked potato. Prices were excellent. We had gone to McDonald's in the morning and spent more. They also cave us frijoles charros for free. Not sure if this was standard or if they were also trying to get rid of it. I would return for the service and the convenience, but if you're looking for life changing Mexican cuisine, it's not here. Had multiple thousand Google reviews and they were all close to five stars. So I knew I had to check it out. It was super close to my hotel, so I popped in the car and found it without trouble. Trouble. Again, there is pretty limited parking so it's kind of hit and miss whether you'll find a spot or not. Fortunately, I did. When you walk up to the place, the building itself is pretty nondescript. They have a nice selection of outside seating, and your window to order is outside. Very nice lady at the counter gave me helpful suggestions and so I ordered three tacos and an amazing lime and cucumber fresca. Went in and sat down inside and was pleasantly surprised by the interior. It definitely had more of an upscale bar vibe to it than a Taco shop. The waiter that brought out my tacos told me that it turns into more of a nightclub after hours. I may have to go check that out. The tacos themselves were absolutely off the chain!
