I'm glad I did because now I actually have a place to get BBQ when I am here. The brisket was absolutely perfect. Seasoned well, smoked, and moist. The ribs were also perfect. They had good flavor and came off the bone easy. The Mac n cheese was good and they didn't put extra stuff in it. The beans were also good. They were baked beans instead of pinto or ranch style, which I prefer anyway. My only complaint is that I can only get it on Friday and Saturday nights.

The potato salad and mac and cheese were very bland and lacked seasoning. The beans were a little undercooked and still had a bit of a hard texture. The coleslaw was an interesting take with pineapple and walnuts, but despite the unique ingredients, it also lacked flavor. The drink selection was also surprisingly limited to canned beverages. For a Texas BBQ restaurant, I was really surprised they didn't even offer sweet or unsweet tea. That felt like a missed opportunity. The employees were friendly!

The hotel I was…read morestaying in had several places around but I opted for the rib Hut because it was the closest to my hotel. It was only a mile away from the hotel up a hill, so I made my way there. The A-frame building has very limited parking, but I was lucky to find a spot right out front. I would imagine on a Friday or Saturday night it gets kind of crazy, so you're going to want to get here early. I walked in and was told to sit wherever I would like, so I grabbed a table so I could take a look around and see what I was getting myself into. The place had a nice charm to it, it felt more like an old Tavern than a rib joint. Lots of bent seating and plenty of tables all around the facility. Waiter came up. Got my drink order and brought it back within moments. I had also asked for a water, but that never arrived. I decided to go for the rib Hut combo which was one beef rib, two spare ribs and three baby back ribs. They came out to the table pretty quick. I also ordered fries and onion rings, since you can't really have barbecue without fries and onion rings. Dish of barbecue sauce..... Vinegar-based, which is perfect for the area. The beef rib was definitely the star of the show. Had a great char on it, super moist, and very flavorful. Flavorful. Addition of the barbecue sauce definitely helps, and that was gone in moments. Honestly, the baby backs were not that good. They were pretty overcooked and had very little meat on them. The spare rib was pretty tasty, had plenty of meat and was incredibly flavorful. Was this the best barbecue I have ever had? No. But it was darn good, and I cleaned my plate. I definitely think they could step up their service a little bit, my waiter only came by to check on me once, I had run out of ice in my iced tea early on and he never came by to replace it. After I was done, I was sitting and waiting for my bill for probably an easy 10 minutes or so. The place wasn't super busy, but I'm a pretty forgiving person. Bottom line? If this place stepped up on their service it would be a five all the way around. I would just sell the kitchen to take a little more care with the ribs as they definitely were overcooked.

Honestly another hidden gem in the Northeast, the cooks are a husband and wife team and the hard beef tacos are superb. I got 3 tacos and a Tecate and it came out to be $4.50! Credit cards over $10. Friendly people and fabulous food, check it out if you're in the area! Let me tell you about these combos...and Mr. Combi. 7/17/21 After eating at higher end restaurants I realized I'm a simple-pleasures kinda girl. I like to talk to people as they're cooking and just the experience of getting to know people waiting in line for food. Food truck gatherings are my favorite places to get food from and El Paso has some of the best I've found anywhere in the world. The vendors take the best of the food truck scene here and add their own El Paso/Borderland friendliness reminiscent of outdoor markets I've gone to in China, Mexico, Vietnam, Taiwan, Peru, Thailand etc. The culture here is of generosity, they're proud of their food and they want to stuff your face with it. I found such a market here on the Westside tonight off Paseo Del Norte in the Brake Master lot. There was a flautas truck, Mr. Combi, who converted a VW Bus and drove it from Mexico City. His flautas (beef or potatoes) is super fresh, light, and crispy. The sauces are really good and clearly homemade. I got the beef and potatoes combo ($8) which comes with a soda. He also has one in a cup which he called a riff on Chico's tacos, the Chuco ($4), it had an amazing tomato based sauce that was out of this world. Definitely recommend this place and it was busy with people in line from Hawaii waiting to get their fix of El Paso food. Next to him was an elotes truck. I think they're called Elotes El Rey? And the sons were continuing the traditional corn on the cob and in a cup (esquites) that they learned from their dad. I didn't get to try but will do next time since a customer showed me his and it looked so good. Then there's the bacon hot dog stand, they have the hot dogs where you basically take a dog and add the whole enchilada, or kitchen sink. The owners are from Sonora and are as sweet as can be. It's crazy how much they actually fit inside the thing. You can customize it to how you like it. Definitely different from a Dodger dog, but delicious. It's $8 with a soda and chips for all that food. I can tell these trucks are a neighborhood favorite as families come over after shopping at Walmart and there's a ton of fast food around, but they represent their homemade local food well, so people find them and flock to them. They're also open super late and only gathers on Saturdays from 5pm-midnight. So for the ones looking for awesome food late at night on the Westside, this is the spot you. Come out and #supportlocal and oh I forgot they all do catering as well so you can hire them I guess for events. 7810 Paseo del Norte 7/24/21 Had to come back for their "Chuco style" flautas.
