Unfortunately I did not love my experience here although I did purchase a dress. The initial…read moreappointment was a little off-putting, I tried on a few dresses and I did find one I liked, but I never felt the welcoming bridal dress experience I've seen with friends. I was new to town and I had to come alone and it almost felt like I was an annoyance at my appointment. There was nothing that made me feel special. When I purchased the dress, the stylist had a tip option and I declined because I planned to pay tip upon dress pickup after ensuring everything was okay (20% on a $3000 dress is not cheap). As soon as I declined initial tip, the stylist would no longer make eye contact, didn't provide any other information about pickup, I had to ask all questions myself, and made it very clear she was upset about not receiving a $600 tip on a 1-hour experience that never felt special to begin with. Because my wedding was 6 months out of purchasing a dress, I was told I needed to pay a $300 rush fee to get it in time (by September) with a November wedding date. The dress ended up arriving in July, 2 months earlier than planned with the rush fee, so I felt cheated out of $300 on an unnecessary fee. When I inquired about why I had to pay the rush fee when production was running 2 months ahead of schedule, I was told I should be happy and this is 'great news' and they will not refund or credit the unnecessary fee I paid or reconcile the situation in any way. I decided to let the rush fee issue go and then I requested an appointment multiple times to pick up my dress and I was ignored for days before I was finally booked on my 3rd attempt to reach out. I sent an email and never received a response or communication, just a generated message that my appointment was booked; very stressful to say the least. When I arrived to pick up my dress, another bride was picking up her dress before me with John, the alterations guy they apparently work with. I was never informed that he could meet you at your appointment and then immediately take your dress for alterations. It would have been nice to know this beforehand; I had to tote my dress around town and find somebody on my own and take a chance. I did work with a different stylist, Melissa on my pickup appointment, and she was very sweet helping me try on different veil options. I did end up leaving a tip with her because she was so kind and patient. All in all, I wouldn't really recommend this shop. You may be pushed into unnecessary fees and then gaslit and told it was actually a good thing with no option to meet in the middle to make things right. I also wouldn't really expect feeling like the experience is special or catered to you personally at all and even if you have a not so great experience, they will expect a large tip and then if you don't leave it on your initial appointment, they will completely snub you even after you just paid thousands of dollars.

Making the appointment was easy and no appointment fee. They do ask for a card ahead of time to put…read moreon file. They only charge you if you cancel appointments without enough notice which they explain before hand and I belief it's $50. After going, I can see why. You're the only one there with whomever you bring with you. It's a one on one appointment and you have all the attention. The place is small, but super cute and well lit and clean. She had asked my daughter ahead of time what she likes, and the staff there who was helping her had picked out some dresses for her to try on. She was great and spot on, we didn't buy here but the experience we all had was fantastic, I highly recommend this place.

This shop in the very nice shopping center of Del Monte has a ton of product, but like most comic…read morebook stores, the business is moving away from that business and focusing more on collectible toys. It's a shame because there are so few good stores in this area. I went to all of them today and didn't find one that was a strong comic book store. If you like certain collectibles, you'll find a lot here, but if you're looking for comic books (which this store is listed) then you might be disappointed. SELECTION: Definitely packed full of product but I find that these types of stores in the end don't do well because product that doesn't sell sits on the shelves so long they gather dust. Not focused enough. And the comic wall isn't well stocked. SERVICE: Helpful in explaining why there isn't a lot in stock but too bad because this place has lots of potential. In a waning market this is the most well positioned store to do well. If they only did an ordering service, it would likely solve some of their problems. COST: Reasonable but not exceptional. Instead of going the collectibles route (I would definitely have collectibles but not the fad kind), I would go the comic book / gaming / sports card route. Card collectibles are of high value and take up so very little space. Funkos are great, but to give them shelf space they aren't worth it.

Owner definitely has an issue that needs to be resolved immediately. As for the contents of the store, it sadly left a lot to be desired. Comics were not sorted alphabetically on the shelves, older guy sitting behind the counter made it clear he did not want to be bothered, and some of the merchandise was WAY TOO expensive. I understand he has a shop in the Del Monte Shopping Center so renting the space can be pricey, but $30 for a "normal" Funko Pop that isn't a Chase, or special edition, is just plain ridiculous. Hot Topic on the other side of the shopping center had the exact same Funko Pop for $11.90 My partner found a cool Batman graphic novel, but by that point I felt like I was gonna be sick due to the mold smell, so I had to leave. I hope the owner can get their priorities straight, and take care of the store before someone does get sick.

My daughter loves crystals and anything related to reiki, healing, spiritualism, and yoga. So…read moreanytime we cross paths with a store of such ilk, she is immediately drawn in. And in fact, while doing the touristy thing in Monterey, Dec 2022, I believe we hit 3 such stores in the downtown area of historic Monterey on one particular day. But there was only one that touched our hearts. First of all, a crystal shop does not normally appeal to children, and there is the added concern over the many fine things that could be accidentally broken. I appreciate how difficult it must be to order special inventory for a gift store such as this; it takes special knowledge and understanding. But the true test of success of any business is the person who greets and interacts with their curious customers. In this case, that would be the lovely Leslie, the owner of Luminata Books. Leslie later confessed to being quite shy, but I witnessed a complete metamorphosis as she drew out her own inner child in the presence of my two grandchildren. Delightful! There was a wealth of beautiful things, from crystals to knickknacks, inspirational books, jewelry, bells, singing bowls, and beautifully made puppets. Oh, there was so much more, but it was actually the stuffed animals/puppets that broke the ice. Next thing I knew, I overheard Leslie having the most delightful time in playful conversation via the puppets, with my grandkids. And then, she introduced them to the crystal singing bowls. One by one, she brought each of the colored bowls down from their display shelf, explained exactly how to hold the mallets, and showed them how to drag them along the outer edge to make them sing. The resonation was exquisite, the children were transformed. They were delighted to make such beautiful sounds so easily, and understood how precious the bowls were. She spent a substantial amount of time with them, while thankfully her very capable staff attended to her other customers. And meanwhile, I was able to secretly purchase a sweet, small, hand-held music box, a Christmas gift for my 9 year old granddaughter. The store is full of wonderful items, but it was Leslie who made this experience stand apart from the others. It was tough having to leave. Thank you, Leslie, for making our day so special.
