    Original wrap

A very good place when it comes to falafels. The wraps are actually a lot bigger than I thought they'd be and they were super tasty! The ratio of all the fix-ins was immaculate and the actual falafels themselves had a lot of flavour. I loved how they were crispy on the outside but fluffy and warm on the inside! I got the original wrap and it was amazing. My friend got the roasted jalapeño and she enjoyed it as well. The prices are also very reasonable in my opinion. I'm definitely coming back here again!

Love this place. As the name suggests, it's vegan. The food is so fresh and tasty. We've had the salads, wraps and soup-all excellent. The sitting area is nice with about a dozen small tables. The staff is very friendly and efficient. The prices are about average.

If you're looking for a spot for vegetarian falafels with no need to worry about cross contamination this is the place to go. I like that how they have a wide variety of hummus flavours to use from to make your sandwich. For instance, avocado, beets, black beans etc Staff is really friendly and they give you samples a of the hummus to try before you choose the sandwich. It's a little pricey- under $10 for a sandwich but you'll taste the quality in them to make it worth the price. The originall location at Trainyards is the best. The new one that's opened up at landsdown doesn't know how to make the sandwiches properly.

So I had been interested in this place since before it even opened when the signage just went up like 3 years ago. But then I saw the menu and from all their pictures it would appear that they mix sesame seeds into everything...and I have an intolerance to sesame seeds, so I had been avoiding this place. However the reviews were awesome (on Yelp and other platforms), so I figured I would go in and see if I could eat anything there. The chickpea salad and lentil soup looked promising, so I asked the cashier if either of those items contained sesame seeds, and he went and asked a person in the kitchen and returned and told me that they did not contain sesame seeds. Awesome. So I ordered the small chickpea salad ($4.50) with the dressing on the side, and also the lentil soup ($4.95) which only comes in one size. When my order arrived, the salad had sesame seeds in it! I advised the staff that the cashier had informed me that the salad did not contain sesame seeds. They confirmed that the salad is not supposed to contain sesame seeds, but upon inspection of my salad, admitted that it did in fact have sesame seeds in it, so they made me a new one. The salad dressing also had sesame seeds in it, so they made me a new one of those too. While I waiting for them to make my new salad, I had the soup. I loved that it came with fried crunchy pieces of pita bread. The soup was full of flavour and warm spices (like cumin) and it wasn't too salty. It had lentils, potatoes and carrots and was a purée. I mixed in the pita chips and I enjoyed the crunch that the chips provided. The salad, I thought was ok. It was kale, beets, red peppers and chickpeas. It tasted like the sum of its parts. I did not really enjoy the dressing, as it was just primarily oil. I saw some spices in it, but I didn't really taste any spices in the dressing. Admittedly, I used very little dressing due to the oiliness. I will say that the portion size was very good for the price. Now please keep in mind that my rating is for their "supporting cast" items (soup and salad) and not their "main star attraction" (falafel sandwiches). Maybe their falafel sandwiches are delicious, unfortunately, I will never know because they are full of sesame seeds. Staff were nice, even when they had to remake my salad. And I liked that kitchen staff wore nitrile gloves when preparing food. I also liked that they had a water dispenser full of ice water that you can serve yourself. This place is "cashless" so you have to pay with a credit card or debit card. This restaurant is in the Trainyards Shopping Complex. It's in between Subway Sandwiches and EB Games.

I can't say enough about this place! This was the best falafel I've had for a long time! I ordered for Falafel Sandwich with Jalapeño hummus - this is the bestseller! The mint, radish and arugula stuffing was perfect. I would definitely like to try this again when I visit Ottawa again!

This is an all-vegan, casual Middle Eastern joint that I had to try based on the ratings. They were only doing take-out on my visit, so I just ordered some stuff and ate outside nearby. I ordered their lentil soup ($4.95 plus tax), and their hummus mixed platter ($10.95 plus tax), adding some veggies ($1.85 plus tax). The order was ready in about 5 minutes. The lentil soup was delectable, perfectly spiced, richly flavoured and hearty, served with spiced pita chips. 5/5 The hummus platter featured an array of 7 different dips, mostly hummus, but also baba ganoush. I got it with whole wheat pitas for dipping and added a side of veggie sticks (just carrot and cucumber) for dipping. I enjoyed all the dips, though a couple are quite spicy and can overwhelm the palate if you're not careful. I was quite full after everything. All in all, very tasty food and reasonably priced. I'd definitely return.

WOW! I am so glad this restaurant opened, this is exactly what Ottawa was missing!! All vegan/vegetarian restaurant, with a middle eastern flare. Ordered the falafel sandwich, hummus, and half a dozen of falafels. There was so much flavor in everything it was mind blowing. Falafel is the freshest in Ottawa that I have tried thus far. They are smaller, and kind of look like a mini doghnut, and they are packed with flavor! They are fried to order, *YAY-no reheated falafels in the microwave* The sandwich hit the spot, and did not leave me feeling heavy afterwards. It also came with a side of pickles. I love pickles! Hummus was devoured and comes with fresh pita and veggies. Seriously guys, check this place out! It is amazing! I will definitely be back.

We actually read very rave reviews of the place and were quite excited to be there - at least till we tasted their food. I would definitely give this place a skip next time - for a couple of reasons. Food: We went for a Fawaffle, a Hummus Mix Plate, and a Falafel 6 pieces. We got the Hummus Mix Plate first with 5 hummus - Original, Black Bean, Red Beet, Roasted Red Pepper, and Mango. They were out of Avocado, so it was replaced with Mango twice. Except for Original and the Roasted Red Pepper, the rest of the hummus could be given a skip. Mango hummus hardly had any taste of mango. Red beet was okay but the bright pink color doesn't really say "beet". What I feel a big let down was the oil that they poured over - which is supposed to elevate the hummus but in this case did the exact opposite. Only the original and the roasted red pepper were able to hold the taste. Dead cold pita bread didn't help either - to the point that we had to ask the gentleman at the counter to at least warm it up a bit. Next came in Fawaffle - very innovative and interesting. However, I am not sure how they envisaged the dish - the tomato and pickles just didn't feel the right combination and it brought a lot of sour taste to the dish - with pickles particularly overpowering everything else. It might have been a good idea to complement the Fawaffle with something sweet - but the pros would know better. We basically had to leave the pickles and just finish the fawafles separately. The dead cold pita bread - again - didn't help much. By the time we reached Falafel 6 pieces, we had basically given up, so we got it packed. Now, falafels were actually very good - nicely made, not oily at all but very delicious. Ambiance: Great ambiance. You can't escape noticing the high ceiling, hanging lights and the education section explaining about chickpeas, hummus, and falafel. The seating capacity is quite good. The cucumber water that they have is very refreshing. A lot of emphasis on recycling and cleanliness - which is quite good. Staff: The gentleman at the counter was good and gave a walkthrough of the menu after he came to know that we are first-timers. The service was quite quick but if one has to serve cold pita bread, of course, the service will take that much less time. Overall, it was still good. Overall, okay place - wasn't worth the drive.

As someone who never had a falafel, admittedly I don't have much to compare how Chickpeas version compares to others. I will say though that I really like the falafel wraps that I've had here and everyone I've brought here for lunch has also liked what they had. Their hummus is also very good and they are the only place that seems to do it the way they do it (their hummus is very, very thick). Prices seem more than fair (about $7 for a falafel wrap which always seems to fill me up), and you can make it a 'meal' for a few dollars more and they'll add a side dish of hummus plus some pita bread for the hummus. Seating is a bit limited on the inside with maybe 6-8 tables so be warned that during lunch you may not find a place. Service isn't super fast but I think that is because everything is made to order. As they are located in Trainyards, parking is ample though during lunch you may not get a spot in the lot right out front. All in all, Chickpeas is now one of my top places to go for a lunch treat in the eastern part of town. Definitely recommended.

Cute little vegetarian restaurant in Trainyards specializing in hummus and falafels. The falafels were really good and well seasoned. I've had dried tasting falafels before and these were definitely moist. You can choose to dine in or take out. We dined in and it was pretty much self serve. They have cups for you to grab lemon or plain water from their dispensers. It's nothing too fancy but it's pretty much a healthier option for fast food. The prices were fair (around $8-9 for a wrap) and the food tasted delicious. The staff was friendly and the food was prepared relatively quick. I will definitely we revisiting to try other things on the menu

They sell perogies and other Eastern European snacks. Overall, the food was good, and reminded me of the home cooking of the mothers of my Slavic friends. I found the prices a bit high for what they were, but I guess nowadays that's not unsurprising. I got a ground pork and rice bun ($4), a ground beef crepe ($4) and a cottage cheese pancake ($4). The ground pork and rice bun was reminiscent of a cabbage roll in bun form, minus the cabbage and the tomato sauce, lol. It was heavy on the bun and rice and light on the pork, but tasted like comfort food. It reminded me a bit of the Asian buns filled with fillings like BBQ pork or curry beef as well. The bun was soft and almost brioche-like. The ground beef crepe was tasty, albeit a bit oily for my tastes. The crepe is a bit sweet, while the meat is slightly salty. The cottage cheese pancake was slightly sweet and I should have eaten this one last, as it was more dessert-like. I like that the cheese was thick and had a nice texture. Overall, the three items made a good snack. Service was courteous. The lady asked if I wanted the items warmed up and I liked that she placed them on a real plate to microwave them before putting them into a styrofoam box (I have seen some places put styrofoam in the microwave [shudder]). I mean I would have preferred if the box was cardboard, but at least they don't microwave styrofoam. The shop is located in a strip mall. There's plenty of free parking in the strip mall.
