My husband and I enjoyed a funky dinner at this restaurant.last week. We started with a cauliflower dish which has a sweet flavor to die for followed by a burger and a noodle dish. We shared the dishes family style and found that this was enough food for two. The noodles are served in a bowl and 'the burger' on the plate. Because the restaurant is located by connecting two different buildings, going to the washroom and entering/ leaving the restaurant was quit interesting. An interesting concept revolving around healthy vegan lifestyles. The bottom floor is a café/restaurant split where the second floor leads to the food top balcony with lots of shade. This seems like a great and healthy place to hang out with people with dietary restriction, and even an experience for the uninitiated. Chick'un burger - Their take on the fried chicken burger, but instead of chicken the patty is a slice of mushroom (I forgot which type). This makes it very different from its meat counterpart. The mushroom is a thinner slice, but has an almost rubbery texture. The sauce on the burger was good and bun was fresh. Would recommend as a bridge to the vegan diet. The fries were a bit disappointing, not as crispy as I'd like. A great place to try vegan food and service was good. I shared the burger with my partner, and the kitchen split the plate into two dishes. What great service! Would be tempted to come back to try other offerings. read more

Being a carnivore, I have been procrastinating trying this restaurant out. Looking at the menu made me cringed, the name of the dish is just not what they are..... cauliflower wings are obviously not wings.... I was even skeptical of ordering a glass of wine (pinot gris). Would it be just a glass of grape juice and with ZERO alcohol in it? To my surprise, I enjoyed my meal. We ordered 2 appetizers: cauliflower wings (with Korean BBQ, and Spicy Gochujang sauce) were tasty, they had enough crispiness to them. We also had poutine, with real" potato and gravy (the real deal!!!). I also ordered bibimbap, not my favorite, but not bad, i had enough cauliflower in one night, so I switched out cauliflower rice with brown rice. It was favorful, I managed to finish the whole thing. Don't get me wrong, the food was good. Just not my cup of tea. Great customer service! And the price is decent as well ($40 per person). Worth trying it out! read more

Cute place, creative food, friendly staff! We had been at the MEC doing way too much shopping and we thought, let's check this out. We shared a bean/chip dip that was pretty good. Not too spicy, but it definitely had some kick to it in spots. I had a burger that was soooo good. I had a side salad that was perfect too. THe food is delicious. And I can appreciate that the burger was made with nuts and mushrooms and not some imposter meat. I love when a kitchen can be more creative than the alternatives. My husband had a burrito? It was okay. But not my speed normally. The dinning area was small and cozy. So be prepared to be sitting close to others. It was bright, well lit, clean bathroom, can't complain. I have friends who love this place but I just can't get into it. The price is high for what it is - vegetables, and juices. Specifically, vegetarian dishes and smoothies that you can ultimately make at home. Their famous cauliflower wings is good, but I managed to make similar dupe with air fryer and teriyaki sauce. The bibimbap was okay, but again, I'm sure I can whip up something that taste almost the same at home for fraction of the price. I really don't know what the hype of this place is about. Service was okay and the food was honestly just okay. I respect that it's a mainstream restaurant for people who eat out to try to eat healthier. I also respect it's helping cut the carbon footprint by providing widely received vegetarian meals. But the vibe of the place feels it cater to the fru fru hipsters, gen z with complicated dietary restrictions from too much googling, and vegans who needs everyone to know they're vegans. As a frequent customer of pure kitchen I'm always excited to get my fill of veggie goods. Since it was a Tuesday, the restaurant wasn't as busy which we though was great for us because we were hungry and we'd hopefully get our food quickly. Unfortunately that was not the case, after we sat down it took quite some time for us just to be able to place the order for the apps or even get any water on the table. Once the apps came we waited another 45 min or so for the main dishes. Though the dishes were made great we felt as if they were sitting in the pass for a while, the sauce had dried up in my bowl and the burger bun was slightly soggy from the caramelizes onions. The hero of the dish was by far the transformed salad! It was seasoned well and the coconut bacon added a sweetness and a crunch to the salad. All the drinks we got were delicious, I highly recommend the pink moon gin drink. The golden milk however was grainy in texture due to the amount of turmeric in the drink and the taste was strongly only turmeric and cinnamon. If you're into healthy deserts you should try the items they have here, it changes daily so you never know what to expect. read more

Delicious vegetarian and vegan restaurant. Even my skeptical meat-loving family members enjoyed their meal here. By the looks of it, the restaurant is also a local favorite - even at around 4:00pm on a Saturday the restaurant was packed! If there's one thing you need to try here, try the Radical Cauliflower Wings appetizer. These tasty, crispy bites of cauliflower are smothered in your choice of sweet Korean bbq sauce or classic Buffalo hot sauce and served up with a side of dressing. Great starter to the meal. For my entree I ordered the Royale with Cheese burger and upgraded the regular side salad to a side of Transformed salad. I liked the burger, which had an earthy but slightly sweet mushroom walnut patty in it. The Transformed salad was decent, but it didn't taste very memorable overall. Food is on the pricier side here, but it feels acceptable for what it is. Next time I'm in the area I'd be happy to come back to try more menu options. read more

It was fairly quiet when we went. It was at 7pm on a Friday. Tables are separate by plexiglass which was awesome and they require you to check in on an app. So make sure you bring your phone. The menu is also through your phone. We ordered the cauliflower wings which were amazing. We decided on half and half for the sauce. The sweet sauce was great but the spicy sauce was quite spicy. Next I order the royale burger and a side of belle poutine which were surprisingly really good! My husband ordered the falafel wrap with a side of soup of the day (dal). Have been there several times with family who are not vegetarians. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The peanut sauce is especially satisfying.

Having finished my pilgrimage to MEC across the street, the sun was setting on a very cold night and I was too lazy to search for a restaurant. My laziness paid off -- it often does -- and Pure Kitchen called me into its brightly lighted interior. I was a vegan for almost ten years and, if I was smarter, I would resume the lifestyle because my health was superb during that time. The menu looked good and the crowded dining area suggested that I wouldn't be disappointed. I ordered a Funky Monkey smoothie and Royale Burger. I'm not a smoothie fan but the secret ingredients in this one are addicting. The split pea soup that accompanied the Royale Burger was a satisfying bowl of comfort as the temperatures dipped even further outside. The final surprise was the burger: it was the best I've ever had. When I told the young waitress, she probably thought I was just being polite. Nope, honestly, this was really good. If the rest of the menu is as amazing as these three items, I look forward to being overwhelmed when I make a point of visiting here on my next visit. read more

We used to dine at Pure Kitchen frequent as my daughter and her boyfriend are vegan. As a non-vegan, I have always found something enjoyable to eat, and in particular the Korean cauliflower wings and the poutine. In fact, pure Kitchen was the first place on earth that I have had mushroom gravy, and now I make it regularly at home. Late March we made our first post-pandemic trip there, and let me tell you, what a disappointment. It was so disappointing that I certainly won't be going there again. Firstly, they had no cauliflower for the cauliflower wings. Like, what the hell? It's one of the most popular dishes the restaurant offers, and they run out of cauliflower by 5 pm on a Saturday???. Without Korean cauliflower wings, I was relying heavily on my poutine to save the meal. As soon as my burger with the upgrade poutine was set in front of me, I knew something was amiss with the poutine. If you look at all the posted pictures of the poutine, you see a beautiful brown mushroom gravy, with its beautiful aroma and copious amounts mushrooms. Don't be fooled - that's not what you get in 2022. Now the gravy has been replaced with a tan-coloured blob of floury goo. It was absolutely horrendous to the point I took two bites and left it. My daughter ordered the poutine with the vegan cheese, and the vegan cheese formulation changed from chunky, authentic-looking cashew cheese to a paste that looked like it was portioned out with an ice cream scoop. I can only assume the owner was impacted by the pandemic which motivated him to cut costs, and he decided to reduce food quality. Pure Kitchen is a premium-priced eatery, so now you're paying top dollar for mediocre food. Too bad. read more

So I convinced my husband to eat at Pure Kitchen with me recently. It was a Wednesday evening and the place was packed! We were seated in the dining room side (as opposed to the bar side) at one of those tables for two squeezed in the middle of the restaurant. These tables are not the best in the house as I had my chair kicked by a server once, and my elbows knocked by servers and other customers several times during our visit (and no, my elbows were not on the table). People would walk by and their clothes would graze my food! They have tried to squeeze in as many tables as possible and it made for a poor dining experience for me personally. The place is also very loud when it is full. Anyway, let me tell you about the food. I feel that the food is very good. I had the Awesome Burger ($15) which is a walnut mushroom burger with sauteed mushrooms, coleslaw, onions, cheese and BBQ sauce. The burger comes with fries, your choice of salad ("Fresh" aka garden salad or "Transformed" aka Caesar salad made with kale) or half fries-half salad. I chose the half-and-half. The burger was delicious. It's not as good as the walnut and mushroom burger at Peace Garden, but it's still very good. I'm pretty sure there's grated beets in the burger as well. The burger had a bit of a sweet taste to it, but was mostly savoury. The texture was ok, there was a slight crunch on the outside, but it was somewhat mushy on the inside. The crunch of the coleslaw was a good contrast and counterbalanced the mushiness. The fries are shoestring fries (yippee), some fries were fried to perfection (hurray), but some were mushy (boo). Better consistency is needed. I had the "Transformed" salad as my side salad. It was good, but had a bitter taste to it. I think the bitterness came from the "coconut bacon" bits, because the kale itself was not bitter. The dressing was a bit on the sweet side too. My husband had the Large Warrior bowl ($16) which was chickpeas, carrots, beets, sprouts, spinach and tahini sauce on a bed of quinoa. Oh yeah, it also came with half a grilled avocado. He said it was ok. I had a taste and thought it was unremarkable. I feel like I could have put those ingredients together at home and gotten the same results. We did not have any, but they serve alcohol here (I thought that I would mention that because many vegetarian restaurants are not licensed). They also have juices and smoothies ($7-8). Decor: the place is clean and modern looking. The restaurant is technically wheelchair accessible and they do have a wheelchair accessible washroom on the main floor but I think it would be a real squeeze to get by all the tables to the washroom in a wheelchair. Regular washrooms are upstairs. Washrooms are clean and the layout is good so that you can leave the washrooms with clean hands (paper towels to pull the door open and garbage can by the door to throw the paper out). In keeping with the tree-hugging earth-loving spirit of the restaurant, the toilet paper is brown, not bleached white. Servers also wear shirts with sayings like "Give peas a chance" and "Lettuce turnip the beet." I love puns, so I got a kick out of this. So on to service: they have a lot of servers here. The servers are very nice. However, when we ran out of water, one of the servers took our empty jug away and said that she would get us more water. She never returned with more water. Many minutes later another server noticed that we didn't have any water and said she would get us some more, but like the first server, she did not come back with more water for us. Then we were finished our meal, and another server asked us if we wanted more water, by that time we said no and just asked for the bill. The bill did not come, but another server saw that we were just sitting there and asked us if we wanted more water. We repeated that we just wanted the bill. Then we finally got the bill. So moral of the story: lots of promise of water and inquiries about water, but no actual water delivery! I would probably return, but only for takeout! read more

Everyone knows how much I love meat. But, the food served here is so delicious and flavorful that if I had to go vegan, I'd have no regrets. And, the service is friendly and fast! Today's meal consisted of roasted red pepper soup, followed by a peanut butter cup, and a cup of coffee. As a meatatarian, I'm not gonna lie, I was pretty hesitant about this place because I knew it was all vegetarian, but after hearing such good reviews, I had to try it. I split the cauliflower wings starter with a friend and it was great - crispy but not overly breaded or fried, and the Korean BBQ sauce wasn't too sweet. I can really see how this item is one of their more popular ones! I chose the "Happy Burger" as my main with a single bourbon neat, which oddly came in a shot glass. I added vegan cashew cheese to my smoky walnut and mushroom patty, nixed the bun to see if I'd get flack (I didn't), and got a side kale vegan Caesar salad. The burger was flavourful and juicy with very mild heat. The kale salad was okay, but plain and lacking in flavor had it not been for the coconut bacon. Satisfying but not heavy. Overall well-portioned meal, even without the bun. Now, let's get something straight. I am not a fan of calling foods something they're not. The cauliflower "wings" are obviously not wings, so let's just leave it at that. The vegan cashew "cheese" was more like a spread, similar to goat cheese in texture but without the tartness. The coconut "bacon" was flavoured and toasted but still very much tasted like coconut and not at all like bacon (expected). Not sure what made the kale salad "Caesar", since it wasn't creamy, garlicky or, of course, Parmesan-y, which is what "Caesar" means to me. That aside, great food, but take it for what it is and embrace the veg! All of which were amazing. I ordered a Bowl for my main, and for the life of me I can't remember the name of it....It had chickpeas, avocado, quinoa, and other wonderful things. We were seated on the rooftop patio, which was a beautiful little spot. It was the second week of September, and it was a little chilly, but they have heat lamps on the roof to keep you warm :) The servers are also incredibly sweet, very knowledgeable and quite helpful. I am beyond thrilled that this place has opened, and in one of my favourite neighbourhoods, no less! I'd been hearing rave reviews from foodie and nutritionists alike, so I thought it would be a great place to bring my vegan manager while she was here for a visit. When you walk in to Pure Kitchen, it feels like you're taking a breath of fresh air. The decor is bright and modern, and they have a proper dining area, and a smaller section with to-go meals and bar stools in another. I believe they also have a rooftop patio, but we didn't get a chance to explore it. The place was quite busy when we showed up around 1:30, but most people left shortly after, so it seems they've already got quite the lunch crowd following. We were greeted by our lovely server Riley, who recommended we try the onion rings, and helped us decide on juices. She was very helpful and efficient the whole meal, and she was so genuine and excited about the food. Just loved her! I chose the "Healer" (by the way, all of their menu items have awesome names), which was a carrot and ginger-based juice, and while I wasn't a huge fan of the taste (keeping in mind I'm not used to juices that aren't typically sweet), I did feel awesome after I drank it. I think it's an acquired taste, and something I could get used to if I drank it regularly. We decided to split the "divine" dumplings and the onion rings, and each order a meal. The dumplings were amazing! They were filled with shitake mushrooms, tofu, scallions and a special sauce, and although they were small, they packed a punch and were a perfect way to start the meal. YUM! The onion rings are as delicious as everyone else has said. They have the crisp and taste of greasy, bad-for-you onion rings, but they are light and not greasy at all. They are battered with chickpeas and quinoa, and have the perfect crunch. They were served with a delicious chipotle mayo and an avocado dip. Both were delicious! While both of the starters were freaking phenomenal, my favourite was my main dish. I got the "carefree" tacos with a side of kale caesar salad. The tacos were small (there's only two) but super fillings because of all the nutritious ingredients. I tried both the black bean and the squash taco, and both were equally delicious. They were topped with avocado, rainbow slaw, pico de gallo, fresh cilantro, and a vegan lime sour cream. Each bite was an explosion of flavour, and was such a great choice on a warm summer day. My salad was also amazing! The kale, cabbage, coconut bacon and tortilla croutons were tossed in a caesar dressing that was light and flavourful. Service was impeccable, food was super tasty, and best of all I left feeling satisfied and nourished instead of bloated and full, like I am when I leave most restaurants. I'm so glad this business exists in our city, and I can't wait to go back and try more of the menu items! read more

Can't remember the name, but it had an almond milk base. It tasted much like a chai latte. Did I mention how quickly our food and drinks came out? Thumbs up! I had an amazing meal on the rooftop patio at Pure Kitchen. Don't let the vegan/vegetarian fool you, this is just deliciousness for any palate! For starters, I had the Radical cauliflower wings. They were so tasty with a wonderful sesame-bbq-cilantro explosion to them. I sampled the Playful onion rings which put a smile on many faces. The Courageous wrap was also amazing. Yes, I was in a cauliflower mood, but the ingredients were so tasty. I added the collard green option for my wrap which made all the difference. Splurge with the extra toonie. Trust me. My drink of choice was the Grounded cold-pressed organic juice. All the flavours of the vegetables popped. It's rare that I give a thumbs up to a drink made up of beets and celery. I enjoyed the glow juice which was refreshing and delicious. I also tried the quinoa onion rings which I could enjoy since they are gluten free! Yay! Let me say, they were absolutely delish! Not greasy or dry at all and came with two dipping sauces that were a perfect pairing. I ordered the tacos, a blackness and squash which were both flavourful. The squash was cooked perfectly! Not too mushy and not too firm. My mom ordered the happy burger and wow did it ever make us happy! It wasn't dry at all and had so much flavour. The hubby and I checked this place out last Monday for dinner, and it was a packed house! It was pretty snug in the restaurant; so snug that if you stretch your arms out, you will most likely hit a diner at the next table.The seats were not the most comfortable and would not recommend for a date night, but more of a stop in for a bite to eat with a coworker/friend type of place. The other thing that was noticeable right upon entering was that conversations travel, and echo, so it was very, very loud in the restaurant. It was very hard to have a convo with the hubby without yelling. It kind of put me in an irritated mood. So why the 4 stars? The food!!!!!! We ordered the cauliflower wings (which is a must), as I looked around, almost every table had ordered this dish. The wings were tasty, addicting, and I so wanted to order another round. I wanted to try the onion rings but they did not have any that evening. *sad face* The hubby and I decided to split the cauliflower wrap, and it was sooooooooo good! Who does not love cauliflower, pickles and yummy garlicky sauce all wrapped together in a warm tortilla wrap??? I tried to replicate the wrap at home, but it was nothing like at Pure Kitchen. We also ordered the poutine as a side, which I thought was good, but a bit too many mushrooms in their mushroom gravy. The hubby said the cheese was too "stringy," but I think that is a good thing. lol We also shared a juice, I believe it was called "the flush"???? It was refreshing and delicious as well. Pure Kitchen is absolutely amazing! We wandered in close to closing time and were seated immediately, despite the crowd. Our server was so nice and cheerful, filled with recommendations for possible dishes to try. Finally, we decided on the Belle (Poutine), the Radical (Cauliflower Wings Buffalo Style), and the Passion Burger. The Poutine was delicious, and was easily the table favorite. Both the wings and the burger were great as well, and the daily soup it came with was a great addition to the feast. Definitely worth another visit if we are in the area again :) read more

Being recently vegan I was so excited to try this restaraunt out !! I went with my boyfriend who is not vegan but he still enjoyed it quite a bit ! He said it was the best French fries he's ever had ! Haha I personally loved the wrap I got !!! The service was great it's such a cute little place but downsides, I left still starving !!! And literally ordered food !!!! And they crammed us into a little corner when there's a dining side ... I get it was only the two of us but they chose THE WORST table my boyfriends broad shoulders didn't fit and he was all squished, poor bugger Overall amazing quality food and service just make sure you get an appetizer and a meal if you're actually hungry, especially being vegan portions are larger at least when you're high card low fat vegan like myself read more
