Highly overpriced compared to what you get. Food was fresh and flavors good (not extraordinary). But extremely expensive, save your money.

This Pure Kitchen location on Elgin Street was their second location (they have 5 altogether now). It opened in June 2016 where Maxwell's Bistro and Club used to be. It's fairly big inside, with a mix of tables (some round, some rectangular), booths and bar seating. The front windows open completely, and in the summer months they open it up, so you can sit inside, but still get some fresh air. Admittedly, I've only ever gotten takeout here. They have a fridge where you can grab stuff to go. They also have a freezer where you can grab frozen stuff to cook at home. It's a vegetarian restaurant. They have mostly wraps, sandwiches and salads. They have lots of cold pressed juices as well. All their menu items have inspirational names like Transformed, Energized, Renewed, etc. I've had most of their wraps, sandwiches and juices and everything is good (except for one juice that had parsley in it, which I thought it was gross, but everything else has been good). Some items are sometimes too salty for my tastes, but sometimes not. I guess it depends on who's making it, lol. My favourite salad is the Transformed Kale Caesar salad. My favourite wrap is the Blissful Burrito. My favourite juice is the Electrify (beet, pineapple, cucumber, apple, lemon and ginger). I love that after eating their food I feel full, but not bloated and gross, lol. Definitely recommend for vegetarian food. It's a bit pricey though. Expect to pay $15+ for a salad/wrap and a 16 oz juice is $10+. Street parking only. read more

I came to Pure Kitchen Elgin for lunch a while ago. I like the restaurant's setup and the service was good. In terms of food, I tried their Belle Poutine with Cashew and the Detox drink. I was hesitant to go to this restaurant in the winter, given that on my visits there last winter the restaurant proved to be very cold, especially at the street-front but even at the back. This visit proved more comfortable temperature-wise, but the restaurant was quiet with the front door opening only a few times. My friend and I each had the Awesome burger with fries. We both really enjoyed the burger but each of us agreed that the patty itself was overwhelmed by the bun and toppings. The fries were overly plentiful, too many too eat, and came with a wonderful, spicy ketchup on the side. I felt bloated afterwards, eating most of the too many fries. In hindsight, fries and salad half and half would have made a lot more sense, if they offer that. The waitress was my real problem. She was not terribly friendly and was rather curt, offering no food or drink suggestions or advice. Maybe she was just having a bad day. But don't take it out on your customers. She did ask if we wanted anything else to go with our meals. I asked for mayonnaise and added "if you have that here" to which she said yes and brought a side of "mayo". At bill time, I was very surprised to see a charge of $1 for a side of veganaise. First of all, did we get veganaise or did we get mayo? And why on earth would a restaurant charge for this fairly standard condiment? Very disappointing in terms of communications and billing. Pre-ordered as an excuse to get a bike ride in. When we got there dinner was ready and waiting. Perfect timing! We both ordered The Warrior. The brocollii was perfection with a slight char,, and the falafal was fresh and tasty. (Too often falafal is dried out, Pure's was perfect.) Everything in the dish was delicious. I liked the sauerkraut, but hubs found it too sour, so we were split on that. There is lots of outdoor seating nearby as well as their sidewalk patio. Good service, good food. read more

My niece brought me here on my visit to Ottawa. I love all the vegan and gluten free options!! Service was slow but our server was very sweet and helpful. We ordered the cauliflower starter with both flavours. Buffalo was on the sour and spicy side and the other was a sweeter Asian flavour. I got the burger with cheese on a gf bun and a side of vegan poutine. The meal was huge!! I could have eaten either the burger or poutine only as my meal. The burger came with 2 patties which was not mentioned on the description. I would order it without a bun next time. The poutine was delicious. I wasn't sure how the cashew cheese would taste in it but it was excellent! My niece had the artisanal wrap which also was huge!! I wanted to have that but it only comes on a gluten wrap. Definitely, the place to be for the breakfast - especially if you are vegan. Interestingly, in our 2.5 days stay in Ottawa, this was the only restaurant that we had a great experience with, in Ottawa, - even after checking out many highly rated restaurants (on Google and Yelp). Food: We went for an Espresso and a Golden Milk to start with. Espresso - I must say was heavenly. One of the best I had till date. Golden milk was quite homely and very well made. For the breakfast, we went for Almond Butter Banana Toast and Cheerful BLT. Almond Butter Banana Toast was great in taste - the only problem, the almond butter was very sticky. But I liked the overall feel of the toast. We even replicated it at home the next weekend. Cheerful BLT was quite amazing, They did try to replicate the meat, probably even in terms of smell, which wasn't necessary. But having said that, the sandwich was still very good in taste. I loved the bread that they used. Ambiance: There is a huge variety of seating available - high chairs, table-chairs, booths etc. The best seats would be the street facing - the ones at the end where they remove the glass to not just give the street view but also a street feel. Plenty of space inside. We actually preferred the table in the front section of the restaurant which had natural sunlight coming in - the one with the street feel were all occupied. There are booths and a few tables inside as well but that is all artificial light - not something we have in mind for a breakfast. Staff: The lady attending us- Katelyn - was good and friendly. The service was good and decently fast. Overall, would definitely recommend this place for breakfast. Decided to try this cute vegetarian spot on a Thursday night with my friend for dinner and really enjoyed it! We came at a peak time (around 7PM) so the restaurant was completely full but we were lucky to be able to snag the last table without any wait which was a score. The restaurant itself is really cute and even though it's rather small, they've made great use of the space and have a lot of tables. To start, we got the Radical Cauliflower Wings (with korean bbq sauce) to share and it was amazing! The sauce was delicious and it was the perfect size to share for two people. For our mains, I ordered the Fantastic bowl (swapped out the tofu with falafel), and my friend ordered the Liberty Buffalo Cauliflower wrap and we were both really happy with our choices. The wings were really good!!!!! Perfectly cooked and highly recommend getting these. He filling is dead on for any Asian meat filling. The dumpling outside could have been crispier for my taste, but there is a little crisp on the edges. The perogies also had a great filling. The dill sour cream was creamy and refreshing. The coconut bacon on top added a great texture. The blt could have been way better. The smoked tempeh was a great bacon substitute. The iceberg lettuce they used had no real crunch and ended up becoming a pile of slop by the end. The bread was limp and ended up mildly soggy by the end of the meal. It's not the worst sandwich, but it's into good either. Its cool that Ottawa has their own veg/vegan restaurant, but it could use some serious improvement to quality of their preparation in food. After hearing great reviews about this place, I wanted to try it. I am not a vegetarian so I was skeptical at first but I do enjoy vegan food once in a while. This place does get busy. I went at around 6 p.m. and it was already pack with a few seats left. I ordered take-out to eat back at the hotel which was nearby. I opted with the Dreamer Burger ($17) - it includes a mushroom walnut patty, coconut bacon, pickled jalapeños, cashew cheese, fried onions and bbq mango sauce. It comes with a side and I opted for fries. The burger was done in about 10 minutes and off I went. The burger was really good. The fried onions, jalapeños and the coconut bacon really stood out in terms of taste. I didn't really taste mushroom walnut patty but it had a good texture - like real meat. I also didn't really taste the BBQ mango sauce, but it didn't bother me that much. If you are looking for a spicy and crispy tasting burger (sans meat) this is the one to go for. The fries were good as well. The ketchup was homemade and tasted very natural. They also offer Kombucha on tap in the morning, which I didn't get to try but it sounds VERY intriguing. Came here for lunch on a weekday with a few people and we all had pretty great meals. I ordered the Divine Dumplings to share and though they were crispy and delicious, I wish the portion size was larger to get more bang for your buck. For a vegetarian dumpling filled with shiitake mushrooms, tofu, and scallions, I was impressed with how tasty it was, especially with the dynamite sauce. For my main, I got the Cheerful BLT in a collard greens wrap instead of a ciabatta bun. They don't advertise that they do this substitution, but I highly recommend giving it a try if you're watching your carb intake. The tempeh bacon doesn't taste like bacon but is smokey and flavorful, and the addition of avocado and garlic aioli makes a perfect vegetarian sandwich. The kale Caesar salad I got with the BLT was so much better than the one I had at the other location. I honestly think they must've forgotten the dressing on the other salad I got because this one was creamier and a lot more flavorful. I still don't think it's right to call coconut bacon bacon, but that's coming from a meat eater. Don't expect it to taste like a Caesar salad, but it is good. The service was good but slower than we would've liked, and I wish we had gotten our bills at the same time as placing our order. If you have a time restraint, I'd recommend doing so, as this place can get really packed with all the businessmen and women in the area looking to have a healthier lunch. read more

Our family visited Ottawa for Canada Day, Pure Kitchen was near to our hotel and we were thankful to have found it. We went for breakfast on 1 day and lunch on another. The Ciabatta sandwich with tempeh was fantastic and everyone loved their smoothies. The vegan breakfast was ok; well presented but it would have been nice to have another option besides scrambled tofu and the sautéed kale was cold. We would have tried a muffin that day but it was herb and not what our daughter was looking for. They have a coffee bar and the coffee was great. When we went back for lunch we also tried the cauliflower bites and a gyoza that were delicious and a salad/noodle bowl that was good. We also reordered the ciabatta sandwich. Now I get that Canada Day was their busiest day but when you're returning for a specific item and it's so different it's disappointing, it had wilted salad shreds and burnt tempeh... it was very different from the previous one we had loaded with fresh greens and nicely crisped tempeh so I'm not sure how it's normally supposed to be. Out of curiosity, my friends and I tried this place (disclaimer: none of us are Vegetarian/Vegan)! What we got: - Glow pressed juice: very fresh, tasted healthy, and was not overly sweet/bitter. - Lavish loaded avocado: the coconut bacon pieces really made this delicious! It had a lot of flavor and it's a perfect way to get your dose of healthy fats! - Radical cauliflower wings: this would be perfect if there was less sauce, and it was less salty. But the Korean bbq sauce was VERY tasty. - Sweet-heart baked potato: nice mix of flavors, it also had coconut bacon, and I opted to try the cashew cheese which was delicious! - Happy Burger: Unfortunately the burger lacked flavor; the patty in the elevated burger had much more flavor. - Elevated Burger: Slightly better than the happy burger. I think I may try the bowls next time, but the burgers were underwhelming. Overall I preferred the appetizers more than the mains. If the mains had more flavor they would be a lot better. My friends and I checked out this place tonight. I'm giving it four stars for innovation and service. I have to say, the place really hits you over the head with their self-righteous and meatless propaganda, but the food is decent. I spent $35 after tip and tax and enjoyed a cocktail, appetizer, and dessert. I wasn't grabbed by anything on the menu to start, so I ordered a cocktail (Spiced Coconut) and the Korean BBQ Cauliflower "wings". Unfortunately, the cocktail tasted like soap (even though it was made with cinnamon, coconut milk, spiced rum) and after 3 sips I sent it back. Our server was courteous about the whole thing and replaced it with a deliciously zingy Dark & Stormy. The food came in short order and was delicious. I devoured my Korean BBQ cauliflower and was even hesitant about sharing it! Everyone liked their plates. One comment was that the tacos were not enough for a meal, though. They came with two smallish tacos and tonight's stuffing was a choice between buffalo cauliflower and Korean BBQ Cauliflower. My friend opted for the latter and was very satisfied. My two other friends shared the vegan lasagna and the falafel wrap. The vegan lasagna, IMHO, looked terrible and disappointing if you were hoping it would be like real lasagna. It was slathered in a balsamic reduction and served with layers of cashew "cheese". However, my friends devoured it - even eagerly dipping fries that came with other dishes into the muddy sauce. They also were fans of their falafel wrap, which is a generous portion. I noticed one of the other Yelp reviews decried the generosity of the portions, but I feel I have to set the record straight: the wraps are a very generous size, cut in half and served with fries. The bowls come in two sizes and the small is quite filling, according to my last friend who had the warrior bowl with chickpeas and sundry. Our server was quick on the dessert draw, cheerfully explaining and re-explaining the menu to 5 women who had all come from a long day at work. I opted for the chocolate almond tartlet (which was perfect and gooey and delicious), my friends opted each for the chocolate cake (3 out of five for tasting undercooked), raspberry tart (5/5 -it was amazingly chocolatey! I'm getting THAT next time!), the homemade peanut butter cup (3/5 but tiny and perfect if you don't want to commit to a whole dessert) and the caramel cashew "cheesecake" (2/5 just not delicious enough). Halfway through our meal we were informed that the server system had gone down, so bills were written out long-hand (much love for our server who had to deal with seat changes, splitzies, and other annoying things). All through this ordeal, the staff maintained a pleasant air of composure, efficiency and were very apologetic. One last thing I will say is that the restaurant is really noisy. The reverb in the main part of the restaurant was particularly awful. I couldn't hear my friend across the table for much of the time and I constantly asked her to repeat herself. THere are some nice, intimate seats near the open windows that might be less cacophonous. All this to say, I enjoyed what I ate and I'd probably be back. Given that the Table and Green door have been the benchmarks for vegetarian and vegan cuisine in ottawa for so long this place adds some much needed style. read more

Great place to grab food that is healthy, fresh and oh so lovely! After a long-awaited wait, i finally tried pure kitchen and it was an overall great experience. I ate the fantastic which is a hot bowl menu item which includes peanut sauce, ginger lime tofu, broccoli, red peppers, kale, scallions, cilantro, roasted peanuts, rice noodles. It was a great overall dish but I found the peanut sauce to be a tad too rich and creamy. Definitely not a detractor from the dish though, just preference. My friend had the falafel which she loved.
