The inside of the restaurant is fairly small with not a ton of seating but even more seating is provide outside with nice hightop tables and it is covered. To order you go down a line to place your order of meats and sides. I ordered the lunch special that was $11.99 for 1/4 chicken, 2 sides, and a drink. Plenty of food for this price. I ordered chicken, plantains, and black beans. The order also automatically comes with white rice. Everything was very hot and tasted fresh. I enjoyed all the seasonings and made for a great lunch. In short, a delicious experience. I think it's pretty cool that they have two sides to the establishment: a bar and then a more family-friendly food-focused side. Needless to say, k was in the side with the booze! Very chill, casual bar vibes. It was a little sporty, is perfect since the Nationals play right across the street. We were there on opening game day too, so they had a few great drink specials. And our bartender was cool! Now about the food...we had the whole chicken, which came with 4 sides. Consistently good food! One of my go-to's for quick service food and I like how it gives you a break from the chipotle bowl-style food that's been dominating quick service. This feels more like a nice meal. Very friendly staff -- not everyone speaks fluent English, but if you do have a question they're good about referring you to the staff members who are able to help with more complex questions, so I've never had any issues. They have a really great variety of food and I love how the chicken automatically comes with rice too now! I have been trying to check out chicken & whiskey for a while. This place is located in the navy yard area and is right near nationals park. When you arrive if you go to the left you are in the bar area and if you go to the right is where the restaurant is. For two people I recommend the whole chicken plus a couple of sides. The staff will provide their recommendations as well. The most flavorful item were the beans and the chicken. However I did not like the corn as it was a cold dish and being from texas street corn is a hot dish. The atmosphere is cool and the price point for this much food is affordable. read more

Came here for an early dinner on a Sunday evening. Had a short wait time to place my order, it was under 5m from when I walked in the door to when I was sitting down and eating. The idealized fast casual experience I had the half chicken with sweet plantains and rice/beans. I overall thought everything was solid. The chicken on its own isn't super flavorful, but their hot sauces are all quite tasty and hit a nice range of spice levels, but are somewhat lacking in diversity of actual flavor. I also like that they have a very wide variety of sides, there's enough where you could feasibly put together a good meal without eating any chicken I think if you're in the mood for bone in chicken and near this spot, they're a reasonably priced option that will have you satisfied. However in a city that has numerous nandos locations, I can't recommend choosing here over nandos. The difference in chicken quality and flavor on the chicken is very noticeable. For those looking for a version of nandos that's more American southern style, this would probably be your jam read more

My office in DC is a short walk from Chicken + Whiskey. It's kind of like east of the stadium, amongst the new (old at this point?) developments. This place is dangerous because I can see myself getting take out from here once a week, so maybe it's good that they're only in DC/MD at this point... Peruvian roasted chicken is one of my favorite ways that chicken is made! I usually get the 1/4 dark + 2 sides. You literally see the chicken being roasted in the back and they cut the chicken in front of you. Very fresh! They have a variety of sides but I usually get the corn + tomatoes and arroz blanco. Remember to ask for extra aji amarillo sauce! I'm not the biggest whiskey person but I've heard it's pretty good from friends. They do have a pretty extensive whiskey menu. The restaurant is clean and the workers were very friendly and patient with us. When we went in, it was quiet. The high ceilings made the space feel bigger and open. They also have a self-serve tap water. We got a wrap and chicken tenders. The borracho wrap was ok. It was kind of a standard wrap, maybe could benefit more than the one sauce packet was provided. The texture was also one note, and we thought it could be better if it were a fried chicken or something with a little crunch. The tenders de pollo were good. We got 3 large strips. The fry was nice and crunchy and the meat wasn't dry. The tenders came with more sauce, which was needed to sauce those large strips. Finally wholesome and NOT fried food in the Navy Yard area! Get this it's open late too! Right now until 11pm, but I hear it will be until 2am. This is a win for the Navy Yard because a lot of places closes at 8pm or 10pm in the area. Everything on the menu is delicious. There's 2 sides: 1. For eating in and take out with open windows that over-look the National Stadium 2. Then there's the bar side with speciality made cocktails and several brands of whiskey with TV's to watch the game. We sat down at the bar and waited about ten minutes to be acknowledged by the bartender and server. The restaurant is split into two: the right side is fast casual, but the left has a more slow, sit-down, ambiance. Really great flavors! The first time I visited, I ordered La Comadre and it's been my favorite ever since. It's an arepa with pulled chicken, sofrito, aji Amarillo mayo, sweet plantains, pickled veggies, jalapeño, Gouda cheese and cilantro. It doesn't look that big, but it's rather filling.
