I Ordered for a group visiting our home in celebration of my mother's husband's life after he passed away in 4/2025. Being a native Michigander, it was my opportunity to showcase a nostalgic feeling of feeding my Georgia born children and husband, how delish Chicken Shack is. Unfortunately, we were met with unappealing, unseasoned and utterly embarrassing food. I took the food back and spoke with Rose (she introduced herself as the GM) and explained my dissatisfaction . She quickly apologized and offered options. I took her up on the option to reorder at a later date. I continued to communicate with this location and spoke with Bryant and Alex and let them know that I'd not had an opportunity to have a large group over to consume the food. They allowed to take my time and come in when it was convenient. We visited TODAY-Sunday, July 12 @ approximately 1:15 (after church) to redeem and we were met with The worst customer service experience ever. Coincidentally Rose was called via phone and the call was initiated by her daughter, a cashier. She introduced the call to Rose and unfortunately the messaging prior to my being able to speak with her was very negative. Rose decided NOT to listen to me but instead spoke over me and continued to share that there was nothing she could or would do. I've spoken with neighbors and good friends previously about their encounters with staff and lack of quality food at this location but after today's events...I will never return and plan to share like minded sentiments with those same friends and neighbors. I will also provide a detailed review on any platforms that will allow. It's unfortunate that in 2026, bad customer service exists and even more than that disgruntled employees are being led by ego driven store leadership. read more

Never been to a Chicken Shack before, but that's what I get to eat is chicken chicken chicken chicken! It looks OK from the outside so I go in to order my chicken! Cashier says I can get three whole wings for 10 bucks! I ordered that takeout no drink because all I drink is water! Just a regular In-N-Out order your food and take it out. Arrive home. Kind of tasty. Only thing is whatever they put on. It is too salty for me so I won't be going back but otherwise it was nice and tasty. read more

This is the absolute worst Chicken Shack location in Michigan!! I placed an order for 2 three piece chicken tender meals, waited 45 mins for my order. When I asked for a refund because I was done waiting I was done to move away from the counter. Another gentleman that was also waiting joined my in wanting a refund and he was brushed off too. I left without a refund and no food, tried to call the corporate office but you only get a recording. This location is special. The quality of the food is top notch compared to other locations. The chicken bites are a family favorite. I called at 8:55 pm not knowing when they close. I tried to order, but the male on the phone told me I must come in, to place my order. I was only 5 minutes away. I said I am leaving now; I got there at 9pm only to have the door lock and the male cleaning the grill with his back turned ignoring me knocking. Had the nerve to be laughing???? First of all, let me say this review has no bearing on the staff - they're great. The reason this is a one star review is that Chicken Shack has changed their recipe for their strips and bites. The breading is completely different and flavorless. And the wings have shrunk down to almost nothing. I don't know what prompted these changes, but for a chain that prides itself on its history, switching your tried and true formula is a great way to lose customers. When a restaurant has been open since 1956, you know it's worth it to become a regular customer. The only reason I don't eat Chicken Shack monthly is because the locations aren't close to my home or work. I came here to Yelp that Chicken Shack makes the absolute best chicken tenders in the state! The boasted, deliciously buttered potatoes are yummy as well. I never order anything else. (creature of habit, I guess) I also like their corn as well. Oh, get the honey mustard for your tenders. It's great. My favorite item on the menu, however, are the fried mushrooms. Battered, not breaded, they are perfection. My favorite location is on Woodward, but I haven't visited one that I don't like. read more

Grabbed two bite size buckets of chicken. The meat comes from their chicken tender meat. The meat is tender and tasty. Only was able to get 3 small sauces for each bucket. Each bucket costs $24.99 for 40 bite size pieces. It's a fair price. Total was $52.98. Service is always quick. My husband and I like it in a pinch. I really wanted to love this place. I had heard so many great things about this iconic place, so I am very disappointed to have to report on my less than positive experience. Before I give my review, here is a current report for informational purposes for those who are visiting during covid...if you would like to order from this restaurant, they only except credit cards, no cash, and only let three customers in at a time. This does not effect my personal review, but might help others for planning purposes. I did not go in to the restaurant, so I have no report on the individuals working here. But when we returned home, the way the food was packed ruined a lot of the food. The heavy items were placed at the top, so the smaller packages opened up and spilled on the bottom of the bag. I ordered and was charged for a few of BBQ sauces, but they only placed one in the bag. I also ordered ranch. The tops were not placed on securely and spilled all over the bottom of the bag, seeping into the food, especially the food that spilled all over the inside of the bag. I would think a carry-out only restaurant would have a decent way of packing food to travel back home, but that was not the case for us. There were fried mushrooms everywhere! The ranch got all over the containers and seeped inside some of the packaging. Since it would not have been productive, I did not call about the missing sauces and the spilled food, so I have no comment on their reaction, but in reading the other comments, it may not have been resolved in a positive manner. It was not really worth a phone call at this point. After cleaning up the mess, I was finally able to taste the food. I was severely disappointed! The chicken was both too greasy, fatty and rubbery, but also a bit dry. The chicken also tasted like fish. Perhaps it was fried in the same place as their fish orders. It left a bad aftertaste. The fried mushrooms were so over fried, that the batter was tough, and the mushrooms had little flavor. The shack potatoes had little seasoning and a film of grease and oil on the bottom of the container which also spilled everywhere. The fries look good in the pictures, but did not taste very fresh. The only item I enjoyed was the ranch that made it back home and did not spill all over the place. I felt like I had wasted time, money, and a meal coming here. I do have my favorite chicken carry-out, which I will go back to even though it is further away. Chicken Shake is opening a new location closer to me, but I doubt I will try it. If my family does, then I will assess that location as well. Oh well, it was a complete miss! read more

THIS CHICKEN IS THE ILLEST! Yoooooooooo, I haven't been to a Chicken Shack location in a hot minute, but today our weekly office lunch was from this CS location, and everything was DOPE AF! We ordered Chicken Family, which had 16 pieces of mixed dark and white chicken breasts, legs, thighs and wings. It also came with Onion Rings. The broasted chicken was unbelievably tender and juicy. And if you don't know, broasting is far more healthy than frying chicken (which tastes almost exactly the same). How much more healthy? About 40-70% less fat than traditional deep frying! And I can't tell you how dope the Onion Rings were too. We also ordered a "Bucket of Tenders," which were (again) outstandingly moist and delicious. Again, I would say it's the broasting technique that makes it so F'ing tasty. The bucket came with CS's famous Shack Potatoes, and everyone gobbled them up. Lastly, we ordered a pan of Green Beans (steamed) and a side of Cole Slaw. Those were simple enough, but were equally well prepared. And the staff was amazing. Ordering online I wasn't sure what to expect, but I received text messages when my order was received and when it was ready. The food was made about 5 minutes ahead of time, which is great for those of us who hate to wait. The woman behind the counter was extremely kind and affable, and had my order together and ready for me to carry out quickly. I can't wait to go back to this location, not just because the service was so great, but more importantly, because the food was amazing! read more

My first taste of Chicken Shack was at a catered work event many, many years ago. Now, every time I'm on Woodward and pass the yellow awning, I'm reminded of the tasty chicken from here. I finally made it back to pick-up dinner: 4 pieces with coleslaw and a roll. The chicken was as good as I remembered: crunchy coating, juicy on the inside, and well-seasoned. It was delicious, although the chicken pieces are smaller than what I am accustomed to from the grocery store. Service was kind and patient. I've been going here occasionally for many years and always was good. Today, I walked in and ordered a bucket of 12 pieces of chicken with 2 sides ($36!). I was happy to wait while it was cooked. Unfortunately, when I got home, about half of the chicken was dry and looked shriveled and old - possibly cooked earlier for another order. I've heard lots of positive things about Chicken Shack, so I was excited to finally try it out! We arrived for an early dinner takeout, so there weren't too many people ahead of us. To comply with Covid guidelines, only 3 customers are allowed in the restaurant at once. We ordered the 16 piece bucket of fried chicken and a side of potatoes and onion rings. Everything is made fresh to order, so it was about a 12 minute wait. If you don't want to wait, call your order in ahead of time! When I got home, I was drooling and dying to try it since my car smelled like fried chicken. It was worth the wait, because it was perfectly fried and not too oily. It was so juicy on the inside and packed with flavor. The potatoes were also really good and went very well with the chicken. I only ate a few pieces, but I was stuffed. Beware using the delivery service on the Chicken shack website. apparently they use DoorDash a third party and have no responsibility for those delivering. Unfortunately I was one of the people who had their food delivered left on their porch adhering to covid 19 rules. DoorDash did not call did not text did not let me know the food was there It's at for 15 minutes and was cold when I finally got it. I called Chicken shack to let them know and was abruptly reminded that they are a third party delivery service and they are not responsible. I asked for a manager immediately, and the only thing that she could do is say she was sorry. I understand there isn't much else that she could do but the whole idea is do not hook yourself up with a third party delivery service if you are not willing to take responsibility for it. read more

The best chicken sandwich I have ever had. But that is not what prompted me to write this review. While I was waiting for my food an elderly man, probably in his 80's shuffled in to pick up his carry out order that he had placed on-line. He was confused when asked for payment because he thought that he paid for it when he ordered, admitting that the process was confusing to him. He told the young lady working the register that he would have to go home to get his credit card. He started to walk out the door leaving his $20.00 plus order on the counter when the young lady stopped him and said "take your food, I got you". The old man left with his food and then I watched the young lady take out her own debit card and pay for his order. I am fairly certain her name is Christen, that's the name that was on my receipt. I told her that was a really nice thing for her to do and she said, "I didn't want his food to get cold". The world could benefit from a few more Christens. Oh Chicken Shack how I miss ye'. I never realized that Broasted Chicken was a thing that you could only get in a few select states. Now that I am in New York I weep daily that I cannot get your scrumptious broasted chicken goodness. In case you have never heard of broasted chicken I will be happy to enlighten you. Broasted chicken is basically a way to fry chicken under pressure using a special marinading process. Broasting the chicken makes it have the taste of fried chicken, but is moister and less greasy. Hello? Can you say delicous. Chicken shacks chicken is fabulous. It is moist and seriously there is nothing like it. Their broasted potatoes are like sex on a plate. Seriously. Best thing ever. Smothered in butter and crisped to perfection. Every time I am back in Michigan I make it a point to chow down at the shack (well...get carry out...chicken shack is better savored at home). So this place has been around since 1957, and the Shack inside takes you back to that era, small, narrow, simple, with the guys working the fryers in the back. Be warned, there is a sign that reads you are going to wait for your order because they do it right, and if you want fast service, call ahead! Just tied to call to place a carry out order, was told we had to order via the website... which is not working at all. Spoke to 2 managers who both basically told us we were SOL and there was nothing they could do. I'm not sure what they are trying to achieve not taking orders over the phone, but the entire time we were on the phone figuring this out we could have placed our order and gone to pick it up. They were so incredibly rude and unhelpful... good to know we will never be going there again unless something with the staff and management improves. read more
