Update: This place has seemingly fallen off. I stopped in a few months ago and am just now updating this review. Upon walking in, the COVID remnant, plastic order window is littered with outdated, discolored signage. And there is a heavy haze of frying oil in the air. The prepared food in warmers looked reheated and dried out. And the once cared for seating area was filthy. I did not order, simply left. read more

Turkey chops, dressing, greens, And sweet potatoes. Yummmmm!! You must try for yourself. read more

The food is getting more neutral. The ox tail, rice and gravy, and catfish dinner now has less flavor/seasoning. The greens at one time was salty, but is now good. The mac & cheese has more flavor. A bit underwhelming, but worth the try if light seasoning is a liking. The service is cool, efficient, and relaxed. Steady flow for various items but the wings seems popular. read more

Whenever I call to place an order, NO ONE ANSWERS THE PHONE. EVER! I called as I was driving there. While on the phone just ringing away, no answer, I parked then walked in LAPE and what do I see?!? Some obese cashier woman sitting on a stool doing absolutely nothing while ignoring the phone. Add to that, she did not greet me after I came in and just sat there looking at me. She disgusted me so much, I promptly left without placing my order. For that alone, I will NEVER return, especially for meh-flavor food in a tiny carry-out ONLY restaurant with three chairs. Okay food with totally poor service, will NEVER get my money or patronage. read more

Sad to say, but I have to dig deep down to find something good to say about this place. I wanted it to be my soul food spot, but it just did not impress me at all. I don't know if it is because I came before closing but it shouldn't matter. And FYI they won't take carry outs over the phone if it's an hour before closing.... So anyways...the fried chicken was giving BLAND, never have I ever had such plain and unflavorful chicken, the greens were lazy greens to me..unchopped, no love put in them, but I will say that's the only thing my husband did like. The red beans and rice was straight TRASH. The smell alone made me want to throw up. The Mac was decent and the yams was my only favorite thing, but that's not enough to keep me coming back. And to pay $1 extra for cornbread that they're giving, that's crazy work, that's the least they can do is give some complimentary cornbread for their expensive meals. The catfish dinner and fried chicken dinner with cornbread and 3 extra sides was over $50... read more

I ordered one of the lunch specials- 2 pieces of fried chicken, which came with two sides. When I got home, almost 20 minutes later, the food was still hot. The chicken was crispy and not dry. The portions of the sides were large. Sweet potatoes were not overly sweet, and soft but not mushy. The cabbage had just a little bit of spice- again, it was nice, and not too hot. The lunch specials are $11, and it was a great value for the price. I'll be going there again, and I look forward to trying other menu items. read more

Service is a ZERO! The fat girl who takes the orders is rude and mean and does not greet everyone. The food is MEDIOCRE at Best! I don't understand the five star reviews. Must be family. Please Shut Down! read more

I live less than a mile from this location in Warren and was excited to see a "soul food" restaurant close by. This is my second review because I am once again disappointed. I went this past weekend and order a baked chicken dinner with dressing and black eye peas. The chicken was delicious. Neither the black eye peas nor the dressing were fully cooked. The peas were still crunchy and the dressing was still a bit gritty. I tried calling them after I got home and no one answered....so I threw out my sides and considering they charge an extra .50 for a teaspoon of cranberry sauce, this was an expensive waste. I have given up trying to taste/order their meat loaf. I have been there at least 10 times and I am told by everyone and even the man who I thought to be the owner at one point said they would get meatloaf at this location. Why have it on the menu and never offer this as an option? read more

Co worker told me about Lapes in Warren about 4yrs ago, since then it's one of my daughter's, mine and my 2 g'sons, ages 7 and 22, favorite places to grab food from, no inside dining. The food is amazing, I unfortunately am stuck on the rib tips, greens and yams so that's all I've had so far, soooo soooo good, the kids have enjoyed everything they've ordered, Lapes never disappoints. Great portions too so it's worth the money. Thank you Lapes for yummy food!!!! read more

I don't review restaurants off of one experience because I do believe anyone and anything can have an off day. However, after repeatedly visiting this restaurant I have come to the conclusion that the attitude of the individual regularly working the cash register is simply HORRIBLE. I've had a few experiences with her now from the first time I went in and stood at the register scrolling through her phone and she didn't say anything....not could I help you, not welcome, she said NOTHING and didn't even look up. Then I ordered a beverage and asked her how to get it once I received my food order and she agitatedly pointed to a refrigerator behind her. Like it was obvious that you should step behind the counter and open up a commercial looking refrigerator as a guest at the restaurant to get your drink. SMH A few other times I've gone to the restaurant and asked her if they had different items and she pointed to the stagnant menu that doesn't appear to be updated daily....then when I ask for something that is on the menu she seemed agitated that I asked for it and told me they didn't have it.....simply confusing. They didn't notate on the menu what they didn't have anymore so how was one to know....:: On my last and final experience I pulled up in the extremely small parking lot and the storefront door was propped open and I saw the open sign still on and it was 7:48 pm. I walked to the door and literally as I was stepping through the door, the cashier grabs the door and pulls it closed and says we are closed. I asked her what time did they close and she aggressively said 8 pm. The restaurant was empty and as I checked the time when I got back in my car it was 7:51 pm. If this wasn't the only soul food restaurant close to me I would have given up a long time ago. But the market is ripe for someone to come in and change the game by providing a good service experience along with good food. read more

The food and services are always GREAT every time I go and I visit at least 3 to 4x a month.

Great food and generous amounts of food also. Clean place with great customer service. read more

Just went here once for carry out. The baked chicken was amazing. Very homemade taste. The corn bread, mashed potatoes and green beans were great too. Huge portions - one meal is enough for up to 3 or 4, depending on appetite. Very nice pleasant and efficient staff. Ready to go in 15-20 minutes. I will definitely go back. I can't wait to try more things from their big menu. All comfort food, yummy!! read more

We love to support local restaurants and I particularly look for ones that are black owned to patronize during COVID. We loved the food freshness and flavors at Lape and it's not too far out of the way for us to frequent here. Looking forward to trying more entrees we had the family meal that came with chicken and catfish fillets with yams and Mac n cheese as our side it also came with cornbread muffins! I ordered a side of okra because I'm a southern girl at heart and if a soul food restaurant has okra you try it!! No pictures because it was late and my toddler didn't allow it but next time pics will be added! read more

Always seeking to support Black owned businesses, so I've been super eager to try this spot. My family and I throughly enjoyed our meals!! We particularly enjoyed the candied yams, mac n cheese, black eyed peas and fried chicken. The lady I spoke to on the phone was not the nicest however with covid especially I try to be understanding. Also soo many people placed orders when we arrived so that's always a good sign. Overall pretty good. read more

A few years back I visited Erma's by Lape on scheonherr and the food was fucking undesirable. I CHOSE to visit their 12 Mile location and although the food was palatable, the damn service WASs NOT! Went there today for lunch cashier has a very bad attitude , I've been told by a few other people this also ...I ordered a pork chop dinner for some reason every time I get the pork chops it's always two different cuts , 1cut I don't like so I have to send it back every time, the food was great, but the cashier needs to fix her bad attitude read more

Honestly, lost count of how many times I've been here since I moved to Michigan from Virginia. Third or fourth time? It's definitely my go to stop for amazing fried chicken and okra. Nowhere else has compared so far. It's a hole in the wall, take-out ONLY shop with some seating for while you wait. HEADS UP: If you don't call in your order, you will be waiting 20-25 minutes depending on the order. The chicken and fish are all made to order but this means they're hella hot and perfect when you walk out with your meal. The hot sauce you can order (or sometimes they offer when they bag up your take out) is Frank's Red Hot. The portions are just right for the price, especially the sides. Lape also has paper menus and three TV screens with the menu displayed if it's your first visit. I'd pick up their small paper menu-- you'll want to come back. read more

Upon entrance the restaurant looked very clean. I was greeted immediately by the cashier. I ordered a Corned Beef W Augratin potatoes and greens dinner and a Porkchop dinner w greens and macn cheese. $25 The meal was of good portion size my corned beef was awesome. My boyfriends Porkchop was good as well. The greens were room temp on both meals. Mac n cheese was ok and same for the potatoes. Will I return again? Maybe to try the Salmon the pics looks really good. read more

When I test out soul food I go for my usual can't miss favorite. Mac and cheese, yams and fried chicken. I ordered a lunch portion. The wait time of 15 minutes was pretty quick. Drove home couldn't wait to dig in. Fried chicken was a little salty be very decent overall. The mac and cheese was bland as well as the yams. Yams could've had more spices as they had only a hint of spice. Overall, not sure if I would try them again. I can grab fried chicken at a few other spots. read more

Was very excited to come here but was not satisfied at all :( The lady in the front counter was purely rude to us and didn't greet us at all. Later on when we came back to check if our food was ready, one of the staffs came through with no mask! The cook on the other side didn't either but we patiently waited because we know how it feels like to complain. Won't be coming back here, money wasted and not a good experience. Lastly, biting into the food was full of salt! Won't waste my money here. read more

I just love their Oxtails.. So very good, if you can get it before it sells out.. Everything that I have had there was really really good. The reason for only 4 stars is because when you call, someone may or may not answer.. I called one time and let it ring for 20 minutes, I was able to drive there and order while the phone was still ringing.. And there was no customers so no reason not to answer the phone read more

I love to support black owned businesses but the customer service location on 12 mile rd has a very rude cashier. I really don't want to go back. I was extremely nice to her and she put my order in wrong. She's bad for business... read more

ONLY the dressing and yams were good, BUT the chicken was not. The wings were redropped and greasy and they were a bit bland. We threw the wings away. The greens were just okay, and needed to cook a bit longer. Some of the were still tough. The mac and cheese was not seasoned and was not good. Tossed that too. Overall, if I wanted some dressing or yams, and didn't have time to go to the city, I'd stop there. But just for that. I wouldn't get anything else. Disappointed. read more

Tried Lape last Saturday. Ordered the Short Ribs which had been cut thin and cooked fast which made them as tuff as shoe leather, had no taste and were as dry as a bone. The dressing was the worst I have ever had, but the potatoes were OK. I could not finish my short ribs and am throwing them out today. None of the other three I was eating with complained about but the person who ordered the chicken did not finish one piece and the person who ordered the fried pork chop eat less than a half of one. We were not given the corn bread which we were supposed to get so I can't comment on that. I will not be returning. read more

Been going for lunch once a week. They gave this country white boy way to much food today. Fried chicken, greens, red beans w rice, corn bread. I love the greens best around. All for 9.85 wtf great service cute ladies at the counter. 9.6 out of 10. For sure will be back. I wanna try the smothered chops next time. read more

Buffett style setup where you can see your food as they prepare it for you so no need to rush unless your ordering fried chicken or fish which is a super plus in my book. I've tried almost everything except oxtails and catfish. I'm not big on homemade macaroni so I'll stay neutral on that. The meatloaf (when available) was the not so tastiest dish I've had here. The green beans with potatoes usually comes with potatoes. Sometimes I only get 1 piece of a potato in it but other than that pretty good eats here. Friendly customer service and a very clean establishment. The reason for only 3 stars is the fact that even though I'm not big on the meatloaf it to 3 visits to try it and I come here no later than 11 am everytime and the place opens at 10:30! I mean how can you not have all the dishes ready as soon as you open? Plus not all that?!? I still visit once a week so dont think I'm speaking bad was just disappointed. read more

From the minute we walked inside this restaurant they were so busy looking at us crazy that the girl didn't even greet us. Their prices online say one thing and they tried over charging us till I showed them the prices on their menu online so she said "it varies" lmao!!! It varies on what?!? Like hello??? Can I get a menu? She said she don't have one!! Lmao!!! She barely wanted to answer our questions and she never Suggested anything. I could tell it was time for us to go so I walked out and my brother walked out after me and my mother stayed inside and that's when she had told me why. The Cook told my mom to tell me to watch out!!! Watch out for what?!? This was our first time at this business and our Last NEVER AGAIN!!! 0 STARS FOR BAD BUSINESS!!! read more

This food was amazing!! Was looking for a soul food place nearby and it was the first one to pop up with great reviews. I got the 5 piece wing dinner with Yams, and Mac and Cheese; I could have fed my husband and I both because the portions were huge. It wasn't a long wait about 20 minutes (I don't mind waiting for fresh food at all), and it was very clean and sanitary. I'll definitely be back very soon! read more
