I have tried this location several times. I have never felt welcomed, the food has always been disappointing, but last night was the all time worst! The waitress barely acknowledged me, when she did and I placed my order which included a slice of white chocolate cake, although there was a cake sitting on the counter, she said "we're out of cake, because none has been cut". I left without buying anything. Why have the cake sitting on the counter if that is the "rule"? I will not return and I have shared this with several of my friends. I love the Fancy Nancy Chicken Salad. The apples, pecans and grapes give it sweetness and texture. The grape salad is a southern favorite and is so good! My family and I love chicken salad chick but this particular location is a must sit outside spot. The smell inside is consistently awful and smells like a sewage leak. None of the other restaurants next to it smell so it's an issue with just CSC. Really hope they can figure it out but it's been smelling bad for over a year. It's definitely kept us from visiting multiple times because we don't want to endure the smell. We'll even drive to the Hoover location if we're really craving chicken salad. read more

We walked in and the smell of a septic tank or something similar was so intense that we could not stay to order. This is not the first occurrence of this issue. Not sure we can continue to go back and don't really want to know what the smell is from either. With this smell we were not able to experience the service or the food either. What else to you want. I've been watching these places pop up throughout Bham and wanted to check it out. Today I got my chance. If you enjoy chicken salad, look no further. Multiple options are characterized as traditional, savory, fruity, nutty, and spicy. A fan of spice, I decided to try the Kickin Kay Lynne and Buffalo Barclay...Both are fabulous and not too spicy. I ordered The Chick with a scoop (as opposed to a side) which gave me two scoops, crackers, and a cute little buttercream frosted cookie. After seeing some of the sandwiches, I might go that route next time, because they looked delicious. I was pleased with the quality of the chicken (no weird chewy pieces, just a nice smooth texture). They also offer a nice selection of pimento cheese, signature sandwiches, and salads. If you'd rather couple your scoop or sandwich with a side, the broccoli salad looked fantastic. The portions are generous. I only ate half of my meal, so I essentially have another scoop to enjoy later. It is a bustling spot around lunch, but they are efficient, so the wait wasn't long. I'm a huge CSC fan!! It's always so quick, easy and yummy. They have so many chicken salad options to choose from so you won't have trouble finding the right kind for everyone. My personal favorite is the Fruity Fran! It had grapes and apples mixed into it. I always get one scoop of the Fruity Fran, with Mac & Cheese as my side and an extra pickle! The Dixie chick is great but you won't enjoy it if you don't like onion. If you do, you're golden. The lemon basil is good but I think it belongs on a croissant too tone it down on the flavor. A little too much by itself. The old south with pickles an egg is delicious as well. I've had the buffalo kind and I really couldn't taste the buffalo kick much. Needs improvement. The BBQ is just not appetizing at all. Too much inconsistency with their creativity . Everyone raves about their grape salad but I really like the broccoli salad. With that said, I got a to go order and when I got back to the office the broccoli salad had a minute about of dressing almost like it was an after thought. It didn't coat the broccoli at all. They need to work on consistency. My sandwich was good though. Their menu is not extensive and they have good choices but for a place that specializes in chicken salad they need to go back to the drawing board on a few. One of these opened close to my home recently, but I was by this location so I decided to give it a shot. The interior was nice. Light and airy and very clean. I was able to walk right up to the counter. I think the girl who took my order was new because another employee was helping her, but she did a great job. Since I've never been there, I decided to get the plate that allows you to choose three 'flavors.' I decided to go with the Classic Carol, the Buffalo Barclay and the Kickin Kay Lynne. The scoops were a good size and it was brought out to me almost immediately. The salads were... underwhelming really. They were okay for chicken salad, but all three tasted almost the same. Admittedly, two of the salads I got had buffalo sauce, but I could barely even taste that. I gave it three stars because the service was good, the salad was good (if not varied in taste) and it was a pretty good value. I'll probably go back and try more flavors to see if I can find something that really stands out. If you're a chicken salad lover, it's definitely worth giving the place a shot. read more

I work in downtown Birmingham, one if my coworkers suggested this place because it was nearby and we wanted something quick. So, I looked at the menu online and decided upon the "Jazzy Julie". The description said hot, but this wasn't a typical hot, this was as hell. So if you're into spicy, that one is for you! You can get the chicken salad as scoop with crackers or on bread. I went with the sandwich option and had a side of broccoli salad. As mentioned before the they don't use a lot of mayo, which is the way i prefer mines. I love this place. What a great spot for a ladies lunch out! They offer samples so you know what you are getting. I haven't met a chicken salad there that I didn't like! I am surprised at the negative reviews. I've eaten inside and called in orders many times. Every time the staff has been great, friendly, and polite. One time I accidentally called my order into the wrong location and they were still fast to get my food to me. I personally prefer the scoop vs the sandwich. I think you get more flavor that way. The buffalo Barclay has been a hit at parties with just tortilla chips or pretzels for dipping. People who claim not to like chicken salad still love it. You can grab a lb tub of it and be on your way! I also really like the old south and barbie-q varieties.
