Service was cheerful and friendly. Unfortunately, this is where the the good quality ends. The ambience was horribly dirty and cluttered to no end. The coupe de grace however was the chicken which was mediocre at best. Oily, over cooked beyond crispy and pungent. I'm now running our high output Honeywell air purifier on high to get the acrid smell out of our house. Most of the chicken was mercifully thrown in the trash. Sorry but the nice service here could not offset the negative aspects of the dining experience. We were big fans of Chicken Holiday in East Brunswick back in the eighties. I have normally given this takeout place positive reviews however, I literally just got my order and I found the chicken to be overcooked and dry. The skin look dark and uninviting. I love fried chicken and have tried every venue within striking distance of my home seeking to find the best of the best since KFC closed its doors in Neptune City. Several weeks ago, I discovered Chicken Holiday in a strip mall off Sunset Avenue, in Ocean Township. My preference for fried chicken is the breast. Accustomed to eating 2 chicken breasts because of the size offered by most chicken places, I ordered 4 breasts; 2 for me, and 2 for my wife. The breasts I got from Chicken Holiday were so large and beautiful, with a golden crunchy crisp that I now order just two breasts. I got to know the owner, Fred, who explained to me why his chicken was so much better than other chicken places. He uses only the freshest best chicken, cooked in carefully timed pure oils that he changes frequently in order to create the delicious, scrumptious chicken that is so consistently "finger-lickin' good." The best part is that Fred's prices are so reasonable that for the price of a ground restructured chicken sandwich from a Fast Food joint, I can get two pure, fresh, wholesome, real chicken breasts that have me returning to Chicken Holiday several times a week. read more

I'm not a fried chicken connoisseur but I know that I love flavor and unfortunately this place didn't quite do it for me. No, I'm not saying that I'd rather have KFC but the food here was just bland. Maybe the food has changed since my visit (last summer). If you're coming here to dine in, you should know that there's only two or three tables that each seat two people. The prices are just okay and the manager will work with you to kind of create your own combo which is helpful if you're ordering for a large family. I really wanted to like Chicken Holiday but maybe my expectations were too high based off of these Yelp reviews. Perhaps I should've tried At The Table instead. Live and learn I guess. He kept telling me to hurry up because he had a line and finally I told him to cancel the order because I just couldn't take his rudeness anymore. We picked up some ribs and wings from Chicken Holiday for lunch today. I'll start with the good: the wings were big. And the meat was quality. They were honey BBQ and the sauce was not very good- it was undesirably tangy. The really bad part however was the ribs. The first bite I took, I felt like I was chewing my belt. The meat was so tough I could barely pull it off the bone. Not only was the meat incredibly tough, it was super fatty. These ribs were really not good, very disappointing. I came here because the construction company I currently work for leans too easily for McDonalds or Chinese food. I found this hole in the wall restaurant on Yelp, saw that it was the closest to the job site,l and gave it a try. Needless to say, I was impressed. The chicken is so light in its batter, you can actually taste chicken (not like your KFC or Bojangles where the majority of the food is fried batter. Their steak fries are also great! Because I'm feeding 10+ people most times, I get a ton of fried chicken and fries (they give me free ketchup bottles and Texas Pete for being a repeat customer). The people that work there are also extremely amiable! I would have honestly given this restaurant a 4 star for what it is, but the kind natured workers there definitely are worth that extra star. This place is barely busy during lunch rush and I feel really bad that they don't get enough business. They sound almost too thankful that I stop by. Go here if you're in the mood for fast food!
