We were craving friend chicken, and the closest place that came to mind was Chicken Express. Although I wasn't craving it, once I saw the chicken livers, I went that route. Thuy got chicken, and we shared. As far as the food goes, 3 stars, A-OK. Tracking down condiments was a pain. you have to ask for everything, very little is put out. Maybe it's just a reflection on the customers. But kudos to the girl at the cash register, as she met all our requests with a smile. I thought maybe the oil was a little past fresh, i.e. it needed a change, but we were there later in the evening, so maybe just bad timing. Our household has been a fan of Chicken Express in Granbury for a long time. But recently management changed and so has the food. Today my mom picked up two orders to go: one nine piece gizzards and one livers order. Imagine our surprise when at home we opened the boxes to find that my mom's order was missing fries and the gizzards were overcooked, and my order of gizzards contained all chicken livers, with not a gizzard in sight. Mom called to complain and was offered a $25.00 credit for the screwup. But that wasn't going to fix our meals. So she returned to Chicken Express to get things sorted. What my mom returned with was worse. Her replacement livers were still not good, and the fries were old. The gizzards in my order were tough to chew on, as if they had been cooked early in the morning and had sat out all day...you know, sort of that leathery feel meat gets after it sits out for too long. On top of that, the gizzards were half the size that are usually served there. Oh, and the Mac and cheese was half the size that we've got from there over the last seven or eight years. So as much as we've recommended this place in the past to friends, I have to warn you away from it now, which is a shame. The good news is that the Chicken Express in Glen Rose always has freshly cooked food, and that is where I'll be getting all my gizzard cravings satisfied at from now on. We asked for fresh fish, which was never a problem before. We were served refried filets. Our sides were cold and soggy. Never before have we had food this bad at this store. The Chicken Express in Granbury is the best one at which I've eaten. Their chicken livers are not greasy and the the breading crust is the best I've had at any restaurant. I'm not usually a big fan of fried food because of the grease. The gravy is not so thick...better for dipping. The rolls are very tasty. In terms of food it's typical fried chicken, fries & basket. What I want to warn people about is service. They have a new drink drive thru lane that is a joke. It wasn't clear what to do so I followed the sign & drove to the window. I sat there for several minutes watching the workers working & no one came to the window to help me even after making eye contact with some of them. Frustrated I knocked on the window. Then a man came to help me & advised me I didn't order at the drink window which is not clearly marked or noted. By then we both had a bit of an slight attitude. Tonight the rolls were soaked in so much salt or something that they weren't eatable. The chicken tenders were dry, extra greasy and had no flavor.
