We are used to eating at the Chicken Express on I-40 East. We were very sad when it closed. We "tried" the Chicken Express on Tascosa Road & we won't go back. We each ordered a combo meal that had very small meat entrees, no gravy, or bread in either meal! I recognize that things are expensive, BUT when we pay for a meal....we expect all the food that comes with these meals! Being cheap is one thing, but short-changing us on our meals is just plain wrong & we won't go back to that Chicken Express and I don't recommend that place....it is not customer friendly at all! SO SLOW BUT the BEST Chicken E I have ever had. Was dying for some good food after being up north for the week and this really hit the spot. We waited in line for 20 minutes - be prepared. I asked for water and I swear the guy said "dookie water".... The water does taste weird. Might be an Amarillo thing. Don't get the water unless you like dookie taste?? When we got home there was no french fries in either of the two orders. Both orders were for the 7 piece tenders, It might as well been a 4 piece. Some of the tenders were ok size, but most were not even half the size of a tender. I don't mind them being smaller if you give us more to make up for it. THe ones that were maye 1/3 to 1/2 size maybe should have had more smaller added to make up for it. Very disappointed. Went in around 6pm on a Saturday and it took about 30 minutes to fill our order. I ordered 25 tender pieces with 2 family orders of fries. All the fries could have fit into one box--clearly not 2 orders. The breading on the chicken was dark brown due to over frying. This caused the tenders to be tough and chewy. First time leaving a review but it was just THAT bad. After waiting thirty mins for our food we went back cause we got rolls instead of biscuits. Then the girl tells us they're out of rolls. So we gave up and came home. Just to find out they didn't even give us gravy. The girl working the window was rude from the beginning. After assuming they forgot about us we pulled back up to the window just to see no one was even in the kitchen. We could see right through the window and when we did see employees they were playing around and running to the back. Finally, the only guy that was there started pointing to the girls working, surely wondering why we were still at the window. Honestly I love chicken express and the service has always been good at the other ones i have been too. But this one is not the one to choose. I waited in line for roughly 30-40min with 2 cars in front of me. The service that they have provided is something that i can not even explain. You can see a girl through the door on her phone and eating, not doing anything, this is a violation of a health code and is unacceptable. I work in hospitality as well and for me to see this hurts, this is not what hospitality should be portrayed as. Yes, it is a drive through fast food restaurant, but even McDonalds does a better job. The people who were working on 4/5 for a pm shift should be out of this line of industry and try a different job or maybe bring in a new manager to make this place different. read more

They ask rolls or biscuits to not give you the biscuits you ordered....call and say to come get them to not have them when I arrive 5 minutes later. I have eaten here several times and the catfish was always excellent. Don't know what happened but was hungry for another catfish meal cooked to perfection and stopped by. What a disappointment......should have known to turn around and walk out when the sign said expect long wait since we are short staffed. The wait was not that bad but when we got our food it was over cooked and grease dripping down the sides of the box. Could tell the grease was old. Chicken express has not updated their drive thru for call in orders!! You still have to wait in line at the drive thru as if you haven't already ordered!! I visited the Chicken Express location at 404 Tascosa Rd, Amarillo, TX 79124 on Saturday, January 7, 2022, to buy a meal for a family after the funeral for their father. I was the only customer in the store at the time and what I saw initially were trays filled with food already prepared sitting under heat lamps Ordered two catfish meals and two chicken tender meals with two sides each for a total of $46.81. The catfish was hard and so were the chicken tenders. The sides given were not the correct ones ordered. I tried contacting the store the next morning to speak to the manager and the one I spoke to either has a speech impediment or should not be a manager at all. I was told the general manager was out of town for a funeral and all the "lady" said was I'm sorry over and over. I feel we should have been offered a complete refund or free meals to replace the meals previously ordered that were done wrong. read more

I guess I knew better than to buy food from here; but its so close to my home. NEVER AGAIN. Last 3 visits, the chicken and/or catfish have been stale. It is obvious that the food has been under a heat lamp for hours. Dry, crunchy inside and out. This visit was at prime time also 530ish, so I thought they would have fresh cooked product. I've had some bad experiences at this Chicken Express, but I have to say things are looking up. We went through the drive-up tonight during a thunderstorm. Their speaker was broken. The employees took turns running outside and getting orders from cars...in the pouring rain. No cars had to pull over and wait for their food...orders were ready when we got to the window and everything was correct. They were also very nice. Very impressed! Evidently even though they close at 10:00, if it's past 8:00, you can only get what is available, spicy or regular. Got our order after another 20 min. Drove off just to find out we had no chicken. Went back and they told us 20 min to cook more. They brought out our chicken but was only 12 tenders off a 25 order. Went back in and they basically gave us the crumbs and leftovers. I was here at 6:22 on a Monday evening. We were the only dine-in customers. They were out of Mac and cheese, green beans, cheese sticks fried pickles and cole slaw. That's half of the sides unavailable. Then we ordered two catfish filets and the unfriendly girl taking our order failed to ring them up. We even had a convo about the fact that a drink didn't come with the filets. So I told her that I also ordered a #2 combo. So she said I don't get a drink because I ordered two sides and I said," you asked me what TWO sides I wanted. " So that was a cluster. No smiles or courtesy. She brought out our food and did not bring silverware. So we had to go up and ask for it. Then we had to go ask about the fish which she said was not on our order after we had the conversation about the two filets not coming with a drink....so we ate our hush puppies with no fish. Super Slow! When we got to the restaurant we were the only customers dining in. We ordered and got our food in about 15 minutes. Not too good for a fast food place, but it was okay. The food was good enough, but they did not have any dipping sauce. They did have gravy, just no sauces. How strange! About halfway through my dinner I placed a to go order so it would be ready about time to leave. It was not anything out of the ordinary, just chicken and fries. It took 30 minutes to get it. This is one of our favorite places to go for fast food, but tonight it was anything but fast. Several customers were complaining and some even asking for their money back. Never have been to Chicken Express but my friend brings their Sweet Teas to work everyday. Thought I'd try the food.. Service was HORRIBLE! JESSE in drive through didn't greet me, he just handed me the drinks, took my money & shut the window. When he handed me my change I tried to say thank you but he shut the window. Then the blonde girl working with him handed the food out the window, I tried to say thank you again but she had the window shut before I even had the bag all the way in the car. They shoved my meal meal & my family size poppers into one small box all my food was completely smashed when I arrived home.... just went back through the drive thru today, waited about thirty minutes for a #7 and a mini popper. Ended up leaving because there was 7-8 people in line behind me I couldn't wait any longer. I went to chick fil-a and got my food in less than 60 seconds.
