I haven't had Chicken Au Go Go in years but we decided to order from there pretty late last night and I'm really glad we did. We called them at 8:45 for delivery and they accepted the order even though they close at 9:30. They were very accommodating on the phone and took the order quickly and efficiently. We ordered a bunch of appetizers and a couple of individual dinners. My husband got a few pieces of fried chicken, my sister got the chicken and ribs dinner plate, her boyfriend got the fish and chips dinner with a side of coleslaw, my mom got jalapeño poppers and wings, and I got the chicken cutlet sandwich with waffle fries. The food came pretty quickly, less than 45 minutes after ordering. It also came piping hot. Everything was crispy, nothing greasy, and fresh. Even the lettuce on the sandwich was nicer than most restaurants we order from. I think the price was also pretty great. My sandwich with a generous portion of waffle fries and cheese sauce came to under $10 which is unheard of these days. I've lived in Massapequa most of my life and have been ordering from Chicken Au Go Go for a long time and I know my next order won't be too long again. read more

Decent togo chicken joint with a decent size menu and amount of options. Now, we only tried a few things for the football game, but everything was pretty good. We got the spicy nuggets, regular nuggets with their BBQ sauce, and sweet tater tots. The spicy nugget sauce was good and different from your average Buffalo wing. The BBQ sauce was good and on the sweet side. The sweet tots were pretty basic. Service wise, they were pretty fast as we ordered over the phone. Once upon a time this was the place to get fried chicken and great ribs. Now with the "new order" tasteless boneless trend it became the garbage some people now call fried chicken. Very simple solution go back to the original recipes they used. Chicken meatballs, chicken sandwiches and macaroni & cheese are not fried chicken. Real chickens have bones and skin, go back to it and get your customers back. Stop trying to be the health store and be what you once were "the fried chicken place". Ordered two different times here. The fried chicken is hot and fresh, as they generally make the chicken to order it seems. The chicken itself was relatively juicy, not dry. The breading is crisp but seasoning is light, which may or may not be a good thing depending on your preference. However, because of lack of strong seasoning, leftovers the next day are very bland (think, leftover cold McDonald's fries that got reheated, good at first then deteriorates quickly). Personally, I prefer more seasoning. I also ordered the barbeque ribs. They were tough and chewy, and felt undercooked, like it was simply thrown into the oven. For the price point, I was expecting restaurant grade ribs with tender meat that falls off the bone. Major disappointment. I also tried the fried shrimp and fried cod, they weren't bad, but not great either. Again, light on seasoning but mainly the breading felt very separated from the inside meat (you can noticeably see a gap like a "shell" when you bite into it). However, taste was alright, but not any better than what you can buy frozen at a grocery store and fry yourself at home. As for the sides, the potato salad was serviceable. However, the mashed potatoes was inedible. Very thin and mushy, likely from a standard powder mix that lacked any buttery or cream taste, and overloaded with a gravy that had a watered down chemical taste to it. It was so bad that I did not want to even risk giving it a second try on my return. For my second try, I switched to the fries (crinkle cut), which were poorly seasoned (likely standard school cafeteria grade frozen fries). Definitely tasted like it sat too long by pre-cooking in larger batches, because they were dry and burnt. The place is pickup only. Recommended to call ahead, as the wait time can be quite long (10-20 minutes). They prefer cash, or otherwise will charge a 2.99% credit card fee (this is technically illegal to do in Long Island). Overall mediocre at best, price is not cheap (3 stars because chicken wasn't bad, but docked 1 star for the price given this is a restaurant). For the wait time and pricing, you would probably have better value at a more popular chain, unless your goal is to support a local business. Honestly, it has no business being a restaurant for the amount of low quality stuff they serve, with the chicken itself possibly being an exception depending how hungry you are, at the price point they ask for. This place is always our go to for family parties and special occasions. We always place very large orders so that there are plenty of left overs for our family and friends to bring home with them. Whether it be for football Sundays, my husbands 40th birthday or my sons 8th birthday party - we have ordered their wings for all those occasions. Disappointed! Chicken Au Go Go has been a favorite of my family for many years. My recent visit and purchase surprised me. What was once a very busy take out restaurant was filled with employees, but the customers were lacking. Once I brought the order home, the chicken was over-cooked, "dry and chewy ". We looked at the reviews and almost went somewhere else as a result, but ultimately decided to give it a shot. Glad we did. Food was really solid. Food was hot, drinks were cold. Watched my boyfriend get tattooed a couple doors down and was hungry for food nearby that was walking distance and discovered this joint. I ordered the popcorn chicken which was almost not edible. So I have been on a quest for good fried chicken. Found this place on Google. Based on the reviews we decided to try it. We ordered a 4 piece chicken and 4 ribs with small order of fries and half lb of Mac salad. The chicken looked very nice. I took a taste of the chicken breast. The coating was soft, not crunchy. The coating was very bland and tasteless. It needs more seasoning. The chicken meat was ok, nothing to write home about. I tasted the a rib. Now when I make ribs, it 3, 4 hours on the bbq. I didn't expect that from here. They were just thrown into an oven, baked, then bbq sauce was added before it was served.the ribs were very chewy telling they weren't cooked lo g enough. We picked up a family meal - for 10 people we got a 20 piece chicken meal, order of wings, huge order of fries, and coleslaw. It was great! The chicken was crispy, not greasy, really really well cooked. I liked the wings and drumsticks best, but that's just a personal preference. The fries were ok, probably better right out of the fryer. Greasy Chicken / Ribs / Fish. This place has been around for a long time and I simply cannot figure out why. Being that it is close to my family's house, we ordered a bunch of stuff from there - they had some "package" deal where you get some quantity of chicken / ribs and shrimp. All of the stuff is fried and not fried all that well- the shrimps were a deep, dark brown - like they had been in motor oil perhaps. This is a hit or miss place that's why I gave 3 stars. Sometimes you'll get lucky and it will be good, other times you will not be so fortunate. The chicken is either really good or really bad. I go here when I am in this area and crave fried chicken however the scale remains balanced with good days and bad to get decent fried chicken. I feel this is due to their oil not being changed often enough. A place like this that pumps out huge amounts of chicken & fried sides should be changing the oil each day (if not more), not filtering it! A few years ago, my friend who lives in Massapequa told me this place is popular. I went there and tried it out, and I thought it was terrible. I drove by recently and saw that depressing blue Formica counter, so I assume the food is still the same. In all fairness, maybe they changed, but i would not know. I got there before my order was ready, so I had the pleasure of watching them work their magic: 1) Chicken was just "OK". 2) I ordered mashed potatoes and the guy actually took out a box of INSTANT potatoes, right in front of me and whipped them up in the microwave, I COULD HAVE DONE THAT AT HOME! 3) Then he pulled out a jar of what i think was Heinz gravy, nuked it, and poured it on. I COULD HAVE DONE THAT AT HOME! I figured if they had any brains they would at least hide what they are doing and leave it to your imagination that things are made in their mysterious gourmet kitchen. Been coming here for years, but it looks like the place is on the downhill. The fries were always good and will always be good. However, the chicken, while still juicy, seems like it lost some of its flavor. But what really gives this place a lower rating are the sides. The cooks in the back have no shame in preparing your mac and cheese in the microwave in plain view of the waiting area. The pasta was unevenly cooked and the 'cheese' is not really cheese. The same goes for the mashed potatoes, as it comes out of a 'instant mashed potato' machine.
