I was so excited when Chik-Fil-A opened in Portage! Their food really is great quality and great flavor for fast food. Today I had the chicken Cobb salad with avocado ranch dressing. It is SO GOOD!! Even too big most of the time and I take some home! Also super convenient that you can order from the app and when you get there you just click "I'm here!" And your food is pushed to the front of the line and you don't have to wait in line! Use the app too to reap rewards. Today my son enjoyed a free ice cream. I had the grilled chicken combo meal with fries and their new Strawberry Passion Fruit Tea lemonade. Everything was tasty. My boyfriend and my friend had the spicy chicken meal and my friend's husband had the new Smokehouse BBQ chicken sandwich. This is going to sound odd but they have really cool trash cans here - they are motion sensored or motion triggered and I believe they compact the trash as well. I had never seen anything like it. Well I finally broke down and came to Chick-fil-A. I got the 4 piece tender and waffle fries. They weren't anything special. I was hungry, it was close and available. I went through the drive as the lobby was closed (thanks corona) I didn't know what to get, the guy taking my order was nice, not anything out of the ordinary. I ordered and I asked for buffalo sauce and chick-fil-a sauce . I order a diet Dr Pepper (omfg they have diet doctor pepper) holy hell! This made my day, I'm diabetic and can't have regular soda! Now on to the ice, it's like little pebbles of heaven, score they have my favorite ice. I get to work and try my food thinking, alllllll the hype was going to make this meal simply delicious . I try the chicken, ehhhh just ehhhh. Waffle fries, not for me, and the chick- fil-a sauce.... no! Just NO! The smell I couldn't get over. Taste was just blah. I have never had an experience of a missing or incorrect order. The staff is always friendly and courteous. For a chicken sandwich, I love the pickles so always ask for 'extra pickles'. What a difference a bit of time makes. On the way home from a Yelp event, my sister and I decided we needed a quick little pick-me-up for the drive back home. Seeing that we were in Kalamazoo and had a better selection of fast food than we usually do out in Paw Paw, we settled on Chick-Fil-A. The last time I'd been there, I'd gotten a tough, hard-to-eat sandwich on a mushy bun, among other things, so I figured a) fried chicken just sounds unbelievably tasty and b) it's a perfect reason to revisit this review and see if they've gotten thier act together. Surprise of surprises, they have. The food we got was miles ahead of the barely-chewable sandwich we got the last time. (It was still in a bag, though- I don't really understand why they have to use a bag for some sandwiches and boxes for others- the bag's the reason your sandwiches get all mushy after they cool for a while, guys!) Pulling up through the drive-through, we thought about what we wanted to eat- and came to the conclusion that a pair of #1 meals sounded good- though my sister went with the deluxe version. That gave us a drink, an order of waffle fries, and a sandwich each- for a pretty decent value! So we put our order in and pulled ahead- and were informed that they were still making a bit of our order, and it might be a couple minutes. Now, what do you usually expect when you hear something like this? You expect to be told to pull ahead to a spot a bit further down the drive, clearly marked so you can wait somewhere and sit, all alone, while hoping that the rest of your order comes together soon and that you're not waiting until parts of your order are noticeably cooler than others. Not this place. The woman working the window apologized, and actually engaged us in a simple conversation about what we'd been up to in Kalamazoo tonight, where we were from, that kind of thing. Of course, we told her about the Yelp event- how much fun it had been, how awesome all the people were, and how maybe she ought to come out and sign up, too! In a world where we were so used to being shooed out of the way simply because they don't have all our order ready and restaurants that are super, super focused on time spent serving and cooking orders, actually having a pleasant conversation was a nice surprise! Soon, though, our orders were ready and we got a bag of food and pair of drinks and proceeded on our way home. Deciding that we couldn't wait, we dug into the waffle fries and the sauces we'd been given as part of our meal. Honestly, I know these are meant for the chicken, but the sauces still taste really, really good when you dip the fries into them. To be honest, the fries were the big hit of the meal. Bulky and big enough to hold the sauce well, being just crispy enough to not really sag when held and dipped, yet still full of soft potato and not at all crispy- if Chick-Fil-A wants to fill a bag full of fries and sauces, and call it the Bag-O-Fries, and want $20 for it, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. They were that good. The sauces we chose were the Chick-Fil-A sauce and the Polynesian sauce (pretty sure this is just a fancy way of saying "sweet-and-sour", though), and they were both pretty good on fries. I liked the Polynesian much more than the Chick-Fil-A sauce (I honestly just don't like the taste of it, while my sister loves it). I mean, I fully expect you could make a meal of just fries and sauces. Getting home, we finally decided to tuck into our sandwiches- and finding out mine was in a bag filled me with "well, here we go again"-style vibes. Was I going to get another mushy sandwich? I opened the bag, and... No mush. Just a pleasantly warm sandwich. I didn't put any other toppings on it, I just ate it how it was. The chicken was nice and tender, a very far cry from my original sandwich. Though it had been fried just a tad too long- there were places where the breading of the chicken was rather hard and difficult to bite into, but it got eaten just the same. My sister had about the same results with her sandwich- but the toppings were very, very good. It honestly appears that they've found a new routine here at Chick-Fil-A, and whatever they've done since my first visit, it seems to be honestly working now that the shine has all rubbed off, and the crowds have settled down into an easier-to-handle amount. I hope to be back sooner rather than later- and hopefully I can stop myself from ordering all the fries they have fresh at the moment! read more

Yum! Our first time here. After a 12 hour road trip we decided to give it a try. The line was to the road, but moved so efficiently and quickly. Let me start by saying this is less a review about Chik-fil-A and more a review about horrible coworkers. Chik-fil-a: great sandwiches, tasty chicken, long lines, bomb pickles, great shakes... everything I love. I mean, not everything, their fries could use some work... but hey, nobody is perfect. This is more a time to reflect on when someone offers to pick you up lunch because they are running across town. What you should ask for: a number three. The end. What you should NOT ask for: a number three, minus lettuce, plus tomatoes but only if they are cut diagonally, 4 pickles, then remove one pickle, and an extra-large ice tea with seventeen cubes of ice. A small chocolate shake first put into a small cup, let it melt for a minute, then put it in a large cup with whip cream, but the whip cream should be on the bottom, not the top, four cherries, one top, two middle and one at the bottom. Also, since they are free could you get me one of each dipping sauce, then exchange the mustard one (because that is gross) for a ranch dipping sauce since those are my favorites. And since you are out, please swing by Taco Bell and grab me some of their hot sauce, its way better there. Side note: if there are multiple orders, you SHOULD NOT order more drinks than there are cup holders in the vehicle. So to recap, Chik-fil-A, thank you for being awesome and having the best drive through staff in all the fast food biz (and I am sorry for having such a complicated order, but obviously, it was not me). Perhaps the best run "fast food" chain I have ever experienced. High quality, great friendly team. They appreciate their guests with genuine, good old fashioned "Thank Yous" Oh and the place is CLEAN! Good idea to start with the classic sandwich and waffle fries. I stopped in to this establishment a few weeks ago to order my usual, #1 combo, hold the chicken, unsweetened tea & a side of oatmeal. I walk up to the counter and I waited for someone to greet me for a whole 9 minutes. I am waiting and i am just seeing a group of kids behind the counter just chatting it up, ignoring me. Finally, a taller, lanky kid with glasses and dirty blonde hair greets me. I believe his name was Kaleb. He was very unpleasant with me and acted as if I was the one bothering him. When I started my order he just sideeyed me and gave me a disgust look which I thought was super unprofessional. I hand him my cash for my order and when he went to hand me my change, he drops it on my side of the counter and proceeds to just say "whoopsie daisy" while holding eye contact with me and doesn't even try to help. Needless to say I will not be retiring this establishment again and will not recommend catering to my 27th annual Chicken Bingo that'll I'll be hosting in the upcoming weeks.
