My husband and I wandered over to Culvers for lunch today.  My husband got the double bacon cheeseburger basket with fries and a mountain dew.  I got a double butterburger with cheese, onion, pickle and ketchup as a basket with cheese curds and a root beer. Their classic root beer is delicious, I get it every time I'm at a culvers.  The burger is buttery and smooth.  Definitely a pick me up on a cold fall day.  The cheese curds, I don't know where to start.  Gooey, tasty and all around a great choice for a side. read more

The fish sandwich and the fish dinner we ordered was so greasy neither of us could eat it. The employee that picked up our tray saw we did not eat their food. He didn't seem to care when he was told it was nasty. Knowing this, I would rather go to the Culver's on 9th Street as their fish is not greasy and very enjoyable. read more

This place is actually the best fast food place I've been to! Higher end in terms of pricing but it definitely shows. The mushroom and Swiss burger is not bad, not juciy but really nice with two parties. Barely fits the mouth. Also got the shrimps, that is really good. I've had wonderful experiences at this Culvers, unfortunately, today was not one of them. Fresco Salad was withered and did not look appetizing. Ordered French dressing; received Ranch!? Orange tomatoes. Fries were cold and soggy; tasted like they had been sitting out all day; yuck! Carmel cashew concrete mixer had minimal cashews. I had to ask for more cashews. Was not good experience today. Employees were not on it and definitely dropped the ball! Threw out 3/4th of fries and entire salad... Money down the drain! read more

Stopped in for a quick lunch and dessert on a lazy Saturday. All meals came quick and hot. Single deluxe is my go to Burger. My kids always enjoy their corn dogs. We all also enjoyed dessert which was fantastic and always more then we need. read more

Culvers is a staple in the Kalamazoo area and probably for good reason; it's fast food, but with quite a bit more thought and preparation than traditional fast food places. The local owners of "my" Culvers (9th Street and also Westnedge) is conscious of the community and trains his staff to be exceptionally friendly. I have never seen either of the places dirty or in need of repair and the wait times for your freshly prepared food is minimal. From a fairly simply burger and fries, to a chicken dinner with cheese curds to die for, this place has piping hot yumminess! The custard (not ice cream) is exceptional and reasonably priced. I make Culvers my "ice cream shop" regularly and have never been disappointed. read more

This is one of the better fast food places I've been to. Food was tasty, service was great, place was clean. The only thing I didn't like about it was that they served me a melted banana split! It was basically two bananas floating in some milky liquid with some whipped cream on top. I think I'll just pick one of their take out pints from the fridge next time...at least I know it's frozen. read more

I didn't learn of the joys of Wisconsin's best until I moved to the best state in the Midwest, ahem, Michigan, but when I learned of Culver's I was an instant lover of the chain because they keep gluten free buns in stock. I never have to bring my own or wish or hope or pray. They've got them and by default they've got me. It was a snowy day, and I live right in the center of town so most of the Culver's (all 3) are more or less equidistant from my home, so it my mind it's a bit of a contest. So of course I turned to Yelp to tell me which was the best one, and I saw a tip that said Portage was. So down a snowy Westnedge I went and I managed to stay alive. I walk in and there is the smiling face of a man I'll refer to as "Mr. W," but really everyone around had a sweet look on their face despite the snow and the fact that someone was going to have to salt the parking lot in T-5 minutes after I arrived. I commented on how adorable they all looked and proceeded to make my order. After a few minutes of chatting about the season, we got on the subject of birthdays and it turns out we were only 4 days apart (maybe some years, but who is counting). The "December Baby" Struggle. We understand each other well, us December babies. We don't compete with the holidays, we're holiday incarnates. Anyhow, I never know what to get, so I decided on a single butter burger WITH lettuce and tomatoes and shuffled off to the restroom for a quick spell and washing of the hands. By the time I finished(couldn't have been more than a minute), a young woman had my tray of food all ready and took my number, and I happily took the tray because I hadn't the slightest idea where I was going to sit. A minor detail was missed BY ME, however. I forgot to order my GF bun and thought I could eat like a muggle, but no dice and I sheepishly returned to the front of the restaurant with the most pathetic sorry look I could muster (this is how I felt), but Mr. W smiled and said it was fine and that he would make an entirely new burger for me, and that it was okay. I was shocked. I did nothing to deserve the "above and beyond" service I received, but that is what I got and I am tickled pink that even in a fast-food chain, you can receive some great (possibly the BEST) customer service. I literally do this for a living, so for someone like myself to be so amazed, I mean they really made an impression on me and I am the definition of loyal when I encounter great businesses and their equally awesome people. My burger looked like something from a commercial, everything was perfectly composed and to top it all of Mr. W even offered to get me napkins, and other condiments and I couldn't refuse such kindness, so I obliged as did he. Fries was awesome, drink was great and not to sweet (I dilute lemonade typically) - a great din din after a busy and anxiety-filled driving in snow day. After I finished my meal, I went on to pick something up for my hub-cap, I wanted his to be as warm as possible upon arriving home, so I didn't order it with my food. He got a butter burger as well/no L or T with the cheese curds and sierra mist and he was such a happy camper. There was no way he was happier than me, but a close second. Probably would have been happier with some ice cream, because DUH, but folx it was so cold and I was so anxious driving in that snow. So the verdict is out on that part, but as far as everything else, honestly, when I am in need of tasty, fast, and affordable burgers, I see no reason to go anywhere else except Culver's in Portage. *shrugs* I really would not understand why anyone would decide otherwise. read more

I know some of you say you "hate fast food." Or at least you hate the idea of it. Culver's is the exception! I have never had a gross-tasting, looking, or smelling meal here. I have never regretted eating here. And I can never resist a concrete mixer here. As a previous reviewer mentioned, Culver's has very good customer service and hospitality. The dining area is always clean and the bathrooms are a breath of fresh air..if that is even possible in a fast-food bathroom! But really, it's like you're in an actual restaurant when you go to the bathroom. The butter burger is a sin. I've only gotten it once. Steak and Shake might try to imitate it...and comes close, but not close enough. I usually just go with the Culver's burger, which is ten thousand times more flavorful than any other competitors' burgers. And they also have something called a "snack pack," which is like a mini value meal. Or a happy meal without a toy. Whatever. In any case, it's so much better of an option and a ton less money, because everyone know that all you are getting in a larger value meal is more sugary soft drink. Gross. Since we don't have Culver's in Ohio (well, okay, there are technically 7 of them, but not near Cleveland), I allow myself to visit whenever I am on a road trip going through MI/WI/IL/IN or the like...and oh, what a treat. read more

The burgers are always fresh, and taste great. I have tried the butter burger, and really enjoyed it. The frozen custard is a great alternative to ice cream, and does not give you that sugar reaction that ice cream does sometimes. Their shakes are also great. I good clean restaurant, that does not feel like a chain. We have one in Battle Creek, and it is one of my favorite places to stop for lunch or a treat. read more

Culver's has good local diner like food, fried chicken, butter-burgers, salad and milky frozen custard. Made from fresh, never frozen meet. Although this is an commercial first food store chain, they have exceptional cleanness, dinning area and hospitality. It is like a "Chick-fil-A" in south.......good fast food. read more

Fast food at a great price. The menu has lots of choices. I got the mushroom Swiss burger and my wife had the fish sandwich. The burger was just OK, not many mushrooms and the meat patty dry. The Culvers Chain has the best food, with the most consistency and creativity that I've ever enjoyed. I don't go to any other fast food restaurant any longer! Their style is fast-casual with a very good order numbering system. There are three in the Kalamazoo area and they all are 5/5. This restaurant has always been a family favorite, but their customer service was amazing last Friday. The staff there have excellent hospitality, and are generally very kind. For example, the manager there was beyond awesome on July 6th of 2012. Half of our street lost it's power that day, and we were unable to prepare food in our household that evening. So we jumped in the car, and headed to this Culver's location. The weather was a miserable 104 degrees, and we knew we'd have to take refuge in the basement for lack of air conditioning. We get there at 9:59, hoping to place an order before the place closed down for the night. The manager was very kind and let us eat at our leisure and dropped by to make sure we were comfortable and whatnot. Heck, he even offered to halt an employee's vacuuming while we were eating. Towards the end of our meal, he let us take home a few free pints of ice-cream without a question or a single suspicion. He was both gracious and you could tell he was acting on sincerity. Not once was he impatient or anything. Needless to say, I was very impressed. I have never written a review before, but this act of kindness just couldn't be ignored. Thanks! read more

I don't usually go around posting reviews on 'fast food' places but this place deserves it. They have great food at better prices then anywhere else. Everything comes to you hot and fresh but also fast. You sit down and they bring it to you really quick-much better then an army of people hanging around at the counter waiting for their food like most places. It is always clean in the building. The employees are outstanding. Friendly, clean and they act like there is no place they would rather be then taking your order or bringing you your burger. I don't know where this place gets such consistently cheerful competent employees when everywhere else you go you sure don't get that. Great place for a quick work meal or ice cream treat. read more
