It was after that when I noticed a few of my leaf guards were missing from a gutter in a location visible from a room not often visited. I made several calls to ask them back to replace the missing guards (with new ones I purchased) and ensure leaf guards weren't missing from other locations, one of which is the very high back gutter unreachable by me. I devided to borrow a friend's 32' ladder and do it myself after having received no response from the owner as requested on my third call. I found dozens of roofing nails on a newer section of roof that is part of an addition where shingles were not being replaced. I collected this cache of nails (in photo) which could be added to the tally of nails collected around the property post-install. This could explain the flat tire every driver of the three vehicles in the home experienced along with the flat tire on the riding mower! I was happy with the roofing job initially, but next to no satisfaction thereafter. If you hire them, inspect post-job well for damage and clean up before making your final payment to make sure they're not sloppy as they were at our home! I would expect the same poor, unresponsiveness otherwise.

We went with them, and the final cost was $19,500. Both quotes had a 50-year warranty, and the only differences were that Vaillancourt put a 4' higher layer of the neoprene (I think) barrier, and they used Owens Corning shingles. Even though I do not know the names of name-brand shingles, I am 100% sure that Queen City Roofing also used an excellent brand, if for no other reason than they do not want to come back to do repairs. Anyway, those two little differences were not worth $15,000!! I also recommend using their recommended finance company as they were much easier to get what amounts to a high-dollar personal loan, than through my bank, for only 1% higher interest rate. Anyway, when they finally did the job, I was worried about how many nails would be left on the ground. Well, they did an incredible cleanup job. Based on the quotes I mentioned, you can imagine we have a very large roof, and so far, I have found 6 nails. They had 12 guys working that day, and did the whole roof in one day. They started at 7 a.m., and were done by 4:30! I cannot recommend them enough.

We recently had our roof replaced by Refined Roofing from Refined Home Services. We made a…read morehorrible choice. LIke many people, we rely on customer reviews and word of mouth when hiring for home projects. Despite being the most expensive option, we chose Refined Roofing after relying on other customer reviews. A huge mistake! In short, do not hire Refined Roofing because of their lack of site management, their lack of professionalism, and their deceitful behavior. We live in a neighborhood where houses are close to one another. We were concerned about the impact of our project on our neighbors and made this clear to Refined Roofing at the start. We were promised careful site management from a site supervisor, with a specific promise to tarp the area, including the neighbor's yard, to capture all debris. NO supervisor was on site during the actual execution of the project. As the photo shows, the area was INADEQUATELY tarped, debris was carelessly spewed all over our property and our neighbor's. When supervisors finally visited the site, they promised to repair the neighbor's yard. Once I paid my bill, they refused to make good on their promise. Additionally, the actual workmanship was sloppy. Among other things, they knowingly applied broken shingles to the new roof and did not apply a promised second coat of rubber in one area. Furthermore, the owners of Refined Home Services, Gino and Karen, were rude, dismissive, and dishonest when confronted with the facts. They denied that there was any debris mismanagement or damage, despite the photo proof included here. While the company replaced the broken shingles and finally cleaned up the initial mess, they refused to take responsibility for the damage they caused and left us in the uncomfortable situation they created with our neighbors. In short, Refined Roofing lacks quality of service, integrity, and decency. This company is not worth hiring ... ever.

After having hired him for extensive work, I believe that Gino Spero runs a racket business that…read morebilks homeowners by lying about labor done and materials used. He gives you a relatively high estimate (supposedly because of quality) and then farms out the labor to a cheaper third party subcontractor for whom he does inadequate quality assurance nor does he supervise. He lies on the contract and becomes borderline unreachable once the work is finished and inevitably deteriorates as the seasons change. We hired him to build a roof which he did not weatherproof--or likely did not inform his subcontractors to--and then denied any wrongdoing once the roof started to collapse. There are open holes on the roof not even supported by plywood and he afterward tried to claim that the wrapping paper and felt used between wood and shingles was really a water shield as stated in his contract, which of course is a categorical lie. When confronted with the photos he lied again and stated that the "Grace ice and water shield" had really been used. It was not. The damage caused by this is extremely expensive and time consuming to address. The entire roof is covered with cheap paper. The leaks are extensive and directly above the HVAC system and electrical equipment. In addition to that the shingles are hastily glued on and too few were used overall which of course can only lead to more water penetration. They ended up tossing a good number of shingles that we had bought from them. The deck was full of holes, and the roof corners not even taped or covered with plywood. He tried to blame all leaks on parts of the roof he did not work on but this is easily disproven by an objective outside party. Even more fatally, the decks were not built with any slope or incline, so they collect water like rice cookers. He of course did not offer to fix or reimburse for the necessary work to fix it and is onto his next scam. We tried calling him countless times to fix the damage but he never showed up. You can get away with a lot of borderline fraudulent behavior in the contracting world and he is an embarrassment to other roofers and honest people in this business.

I asked him for a contract, and he never did send me one. I think that he had other jobs, probably paving ones that would give him more money, versus a sealcoating job. I called him another time and left a message of which it was not returned. He should at least have had the decency to tell me that he could not follow up on his promise. I finally resorted to calling other companies in late July and early August; but I feel that by waiting for Henry, I missed out on other companies scheduling my job this Summer.
