We used Cari for a 2-week board and train for our dog, Chorizo. During the training period, communication was limited and we often had to follow up ourselves to get updates. At the same time, we were seeing our dog being posted on Instagram more than we were getting direct updates, even after we asked for them. She pinned Chorizo on her Instagram, in the number one post slot, while we hadn't heard from her in three days and didn't even know he was going on a field trip. This was especially difficult for my wife, who had recently lost her father and was already going through a lot. Being separated from our dog was hard on her. We asked multiple times for updates so we could reassure her, but it never felt like we were getting the same level of feedback other reviewers experienced. The training experience didn't match what we expected. Recall still needs work, and "place" became more confusing. Before, he would go where I pointed. Now he tries multiple spots and flinches (expecting a stim), even after we bought him a cot. We asked Cari to introduce Chorizo to our e-collar (EZ Educator). During the consultation, she mentioned that he would learn recall and other commands to near perfection before the e-collar was introduced, and that vibration would be used before stim. The handoff only showed e-collar stim commands, and vibration was not introduced. His recall without the e-collar still needs work. We never received a clear breakdown of what he was working on during the program and mostly followed his progress through Instagram. After pickup, I had to follow up just to get a list of commands. The handoff felt rushed. He was exhausted, it was a hot day, and she had forgotten a water bowl, so a lot of the time was spent just letting him drink water. There was no follow-up afterward to see how he was doing. A few hours after getting him back that Friday, we took him to a groomer who pointed out a cracked toenail down to the quick and irritation on his neck from his e-collar. The groomer said the irritation looked like burns from an e-collar that hadn't been rotated and advised us to monitor his paw to make sure it didn't get worse. We took it easy and avoided taking him out while he healed, but by Tuesday his paw started bleeding. We notified Cari and let her know we would be taking him to the vet after my scheduled surgery. I had carpal tunnel release surgery on both hands that Wednesday, and I took him to the vet while recovering on Thursday. He developed an infection and a fever that required sedation, nail removal, and stitches. This whole experience is not what we expected after reading her Yelp reviews. Even trying to work things out with Cari regarding the vet bills, after we negotiated the cost down with the vet and insurance covered a significant portion, was disappointing. We weren't asking for everything, just something fair. The procedure cost about $900 if the dog is sedated. We asked her to participate $350-$380. She offered $100. When I told her that Chorizo was at the vet because his paw was bleeding, her response was, "Ok thank you for the update." We weren't able to reach an agreement and were told, by Cari, that small claims court would be the best way to resolve it, which is what we are now pursuing. Regarding our training equipment, we also had to follow up on two leashes and e-collar prongs that weren't returned after the program. She told my wife she broke the retractable leash and would send a replacement right away, but a week and a half later we still haven't received confirmation that it's been sent. (Edit: retractable leash and prongs received 3/31 via Amazon Prime.)

I am really grateful for how much Carissa from Chicana Farm has helped not only our dog, but our family gain some structure with him. Our dog Toto was about 8 months when he received his dog training but we had only adopted him 2 months prior. We couldn't get him to stop peeing on just about every corner of our house. He would also jet out running out of the house any chance he could get and let me tell you - he is FAST! He had no self-control and zero listening skills! We were all stressed! Chicana Farm really helped Toto gain structure and learn self-control! After the 10 day training, Toto was like a new dog! The day of drop-off, Carissa gave us some pointers and advice on how to keep Toto's newly learned skills in line. As a family, we stayed consistent with a routine which helped Toto transition his newly learned skills at home. He is much more obedient but it takes consistency to keep it that way. We are really happy with the results from his dog training!

Carissa from Chicana Farm Dog Training has worked with our Great Dane, Loki, twice now and both times have been incredible. We first sent Loki to her for a 10-day board and train when he was a puppy to establish basic commands. Most recently, at 2.5 years old, he went back for a refresher on commands and help with his social skills. Loki is a big baby. He is very lovable and affectionate with those he knows, but also skittish and selective about who he lets near him. With his size and deep bark, he can be intimidating to others, which makes it so important that he listens well and is comfortable around people. Our family is very social, we love hosting at our home and going out into the community with Loki, so having a well-mannered dog makes a big difference. Even though we live in Oxnard and Carissa is based in Hesperia, working with her has always been smooth. We usually meet halfway for pickup and drop-off, but this time she went above and beyond by bringing Loki all the way to our home. She didn't just drop him off, she stayed and gave in-depth, hands-on training with everyone involved in Loki's care: my kids, my fiancée, and even my parents. She made sure each of us felt confident giving commands, setting boundaries, and reinforcing the training. We've seen huge improvements in Loki's behavior, responsiveness, and calmness around others. Carissa's patience, professionalism, and genuine care for the dogs she trains really shine through. We feel more in control and connected with our dog, and Loki came back happy and balanced. If you're looking for a trainer who truly understands dogs, supports the entire family, and brings heart to every session, I highly recommend Chicana Farm Dog Training.

We sent our dog Cash in for board training with Cari because we were struggling with some of his behavior, especially having two kids at home. It was really important for us to create a safe, structured environment, and this ended up being one of the best decisions we've made. Cari kept us informed the entire time, always updating us on his progress and how he was doing. That alone gave us so much peace of mind. When we got Cash back, he was like a completely different dog. The transformation was amazing. Everywhere we go now, people compliment how well-behaved he is, and we always make sure to give credit to Cari and the incredible work she did with him. Also, a huge shoutout to her husband! I know he was a little intimidated by our big fur baby at first, but he still showed up with patience, care that meant a lot to us. We're beyond grateful for everything they did for Cash. Most importantly, we're so happy to have him as part of our family now with confidence and peace of mind. If you're considering training for your dog, I highly recommend Cari. She truly cares, and it shows in her work

We can't say enough great things about Chicana Farm! Carissa is absolutely amazing--she communicates well and genuinely loves the dogs. My pup, Ginger, gets so excited every time she sees her! Knowing my girl is in such caring and capable hands is truly priceless. While I was out of the country for a month, Carissa not only provided a loving home for Ginger but also trained her, and the results have been incredible. I couldn't be happier with the care and dedication she provides.

Carissa returning him to me after a week but also showing me the commands and how to keep him in line

Carissa was amazing!! My pup is a rescue and he came from an abused home. So we had a lot of issues with him being insecure, nervous and very reactive towards other dogs. Walks and hiking were horrible with him because every time he would see a dog I would have to basically put him in a choke hold. He's a Doberman and really strong. We did the week training and board with Carissa. It's amazing how Thor came back home. He was calm. I could not believe how much of a change he made. I enjoy our walks with him now. I don't have to give much commands on our walks because it's like he already knows what he's supposed to do which is when I stop he sits and then lays down until I give the ok. He'll see dogs and he's ok now. Except for little dogs which Carissa had noticed he's more reactive towards the little ones but we're still working on that with him. Thanks Carissa for all of your help with Thor!!

Milo camping

Carissa helped us train Milo our german shepherd/husky mix. She was very flexible and worked around our busy work schedule. After the training we have gained a better understanding of how to appropriately set up Milo for success. Carissa put milo in different environments and coaches us through it. After the training we were able to take Milo on a family camping trip and he behaved so well. Consistency is key! We will definitely be reaching out to Carissa to help us train our puppy soon.

We sought out Carissa's help after a friend had great success with their dog. We have been doing private sessions for our sassy corgi and we are so happy with the improvements we've seen! Willow now can go anywhere with us and is just the sweetest with other dogs. She is constantly praised with how well behaved she is for such a young dog. We have really enjoyed the private sessions to work on very specific behaviors. Happy to recommend Carissa to anyone looking for dog training.

Such a great experience. I sent my 10 month old golden retriever and I am shocked by the improvement. It's night and day. Cari is responsive and makes you feel safe and secure during the board and train process. I would highly recommend sending your dog! You will not regret it!

Where to start?? Carrisa is just an all around amazing trainer and person and we could not be happier with our training session so far! Ok, some background now- we rescued a pit mix from the shelter in Jan, being our 3rd rescue over the years, we thought we knew what we were in for...... it was soon apparent that we needed help to train Clarence on his behaviors, so I began to search Yelp and came across Chicana Farm Dog Training. Carrisa was timely in her response to set up a meet and go over options and meet Clarence who is now approx 9 month old. We went with private sessions, and I cannot speak highly enough about this experience! After just one session his "nipping" and jumping behaviors have stopped and we were taught how to "train" him and follow thru with the training. Clarence is young, about 70lbs and becoming a better dog with every session. Very grateful to have found Chicana Farm Dog Training and Carrisa as we now know Clarence will be the best dog he can be as a part of our family!!!

Sandy

I came across this wonderful dog trainer on Facebook in my city's page. I got Sandy as a 4 month old puppy but she quickly was destroying my house my whole house was a chew toy. Carissa taught Sandy not to jump on people, and crate trained her. Quickly, Sandy became the size of Clifford the big red dog and now we are working as a team so Sandy doesn't jump fences and cause me anymore headaches. She also thought Ghost how to walk on a leash because he used to pull me. We are forever thankful.
