I'm writing this update to show the odd behavior from Steven years later. It's been almost 2.5 years yet I'm receiving emails and comments from the owner, Steven. Each time he responds, his answers change. I'm excepting he'll edit his comment after he reads this, but I have the screen shots and emails to show proof for anyone who is interested. Feel free to contact me.
Please let me clarify a few items since Steven wrote me and said "Anyone who reads the fiction that you wrote doesn't have to be a rocket scientist to read between the lines and know that something is wrong unless you are a psychic and have a gift that lets you know for a fact what happens in places when you are not around."
I'm an emergency response official and was leaving for at least 2 weeks for that reason. I explained the situation and called frequently to check in since this was a new boarding facility with many more dogs than he's used to. Also to keep Steven informed of my status since emergencies can change rapidly.
During my calls the owner would tell me my little man was doing fine, sleeping with him, staying in the house, enjoying playing with the other dogs and everyone got along great. That is why I was extremely upset when I found my dog outside in the heat of the summer in the desert, by himself. It is not safe, not what we agreed on nor was it how he described it to me on the phone.
In one message Steven said my dog "was in a 12 x 12 Kennel during the day, by himself because his poor temperament and my fear of putting him with other dogs because of this" and in another comment said "Your "Pitt Bull" was kept in a 12 by 12 by himself as he was to big to run with the others ." Again, if any of that was true, none of that was ever conveyed during any of our multiple phone calls.
I had a 2 day drive back from the emergency event and called Steven several times each day to let him know when I would be there. I have the phone records to prove it. Never got an answer or call back. I called repeatedly for the last 2 hours of the drive and became worried when there was no answer or response.
When I saw my dog was outside and not inside playing with other dogs like he told me he was, I understood why Steven had asked for a 15 minute heads up; that he could bring my dog in the house and make it look like that's where he was the entire time when he was not.
"Little Man" is an affectionate term I use to describe my then 1 year and 3 month old, neutered, American Staffordshire terrier (pit bull category). I say that because Steven wrote to me and said "In closing your say that Little Man, YOUR PITT BULL, hasn't been the same and it's been 2 months now, give me a break. It's funny how you didn't mention in your review that Little Man is a full grown unaltered Pitt Bull named Money." His name is actually Funny Money, not sure that makes a difference.
Steven wrote me saying "You brought your dogs bed and crate which was used by my dogs inside the house. And you know this to be true because?" Because my dog has short light colored hair. As per Steven's own words, my dog was kept outside yet the bed came from inside covered with long, multi-colored and curly hair.
Steven made another odd statement in an email "I sleep well at night, yes at night, not during the day without a problems" but yet his comment months later says "I don't drink and rarely get over 2 hours of sleep in any one day." When I called during the day, I never got answers. When I could get a hold of him, it was at night and Steven would tell me he had been asleep or taking a nap when I called. Those were his words, not my assumptions.
Steven's last comment stated "in 13 years have never had parasites at the kennel." Maybe he's referring to the ringworm my dog received from his facility but, ringworm is a fungus, not a parasite. You would think someone who takes care of dogs would know the difference.
Steven claims to now be licensed and insured. That was not the case when I wrote the review. I contacted the state, better business bureau, animal control and researched the license number that was on his site at the time. No such license existed.
Finally, Steven also wrote me saying "You know when you dropped off Little Man and spent over an hour and a half making up your mind whether or not you wanted to board him with me, I should have known this was going to be the result of boarding your dog." Yes, I spent a lot of time watching my dog interact with the many others without incident. I wanted to tour the area where my dog would be staying, as is common practice for cageless boarding facilities. I was only allowed to see one room that stunk of urine, was filthy and very small. Because all the dogs got along and I needed to respond to a state emergency, I made the decision to leave him there. Had I known there were any issues or things were not as we agreed on, I would have gotten my dog out of there. read more
