We were her last visit of the evening and she did not make us feel rushed in the slightest. She was kind and caring, she sat with us and answered all our questions, discussed our diagnosis in detail, gave us thoughts on next steps. She even went as far as to give her opinions and thoughts to a few other health issues that could be coming into play for our pup as well. Truly wonderful. We appreciated her time so much, we were there nearly 1.5 hours after they closed and she made sure we had all the information and the results of our X-rays. Caring…read morefor our 150 lb mastiff in the last six months of his life was a full time job with lots of challenging logistics and emotions; however, the staff, nurse Kim, and Dr. Shanan made these circumstances full of peace and relief amidst the labor and heartache, and at a price that was very affordable compared to the alternative option of frequent hospital visits. We knew this would be a good fit from the first intake call where both Kim and Dr. Shanan really took their time to understand goose and us, what we were going thru and what we needed to transition deliberately and gently. We settled on a plan with weekly nurse visits, as needed virtual check ins, emergency calls, and emergency kit, and a few at home procedures. We learned how to administer IV fluids, a mountain load of pills and supplements (the herbal supplements probably gave goose back a few months of walking, healing the sores on his feet from liver degradation as if magically), and even how to massage him in certain places. The at home procedures were hours long and hard, but their team of three came prepared with skill, patience, and compassion. Kims weekly visits provided a touchstone of care and a place to make sure meds and care was up to date. Coupled with on call virtual visits, we felt we had what we needed (and having the emergency kit was also an immense comfort) On the night of Goose's passing, Dr. Shanan knew exactly the right disposition to support gooses transition, and our grieving. It was a beautiful and heartbreaking evening but I experienced a lot of peace because of his care. I hope I receive as much care as Goose did on the day I transition! We feel incredibly fortunate to have found this team to help us navigate a very challenging few months and will absolutely utilize these services in the future when needed. My gratitude is overflowing.

Over the last six months, their team came to our home for regular hospice visits to help manage Zooey's pain and chronic conditions while guiding us through quality-of-life decisions. That ongoing support made such a difference. And when it was time to say goodbye, Zooey's passing was gentle, calm, and free of pain and anxiety. Dr. Shanan helped us say goodbye to another beloved dog in 2021, and since then I've known that if we ever faced this situation again, this is the kind of care I would want for our pets. The entire staff was wonderful. I called countless times for medication refills and schedule changes, and every single interaction was met with patience and kindness. And a very special thank you to our nurse, Irene, who spent many hours helping us navigate the rollercoaster of Zooey's conditions. Her knowledge, patience, and compassion meant so much to us. She has a sense of humor and a wonderfully matter-of-fact way of explaining difficult things that made overwhelming conversations feel manageable. I wish more people knew that hospice care like this can start earlier than you might think. CVH gave us advice and tools to help make end-of-life decisions, without any pressure one way or the other. So if your dog has a terminal illness or is nearing the end of their life, don't be afraid to start -- it doesn't mean you're giving up or are ready to say goodbye. We drove up, walked in and they began talking to us about what happened and examining her before we filled out paperwork or anything. Truly putting her well-being first and foremost! They explained everything to us and did their best to keep us all calm. The assistant was particularly amazing and so patient with Lilah who was quite scared. He explaned the treatment nuisances like the logic behind using de-worming med's and taking a stool sample. He patiently answered our newbie questions: Would the dog freeze outside in the cold Chicago evenings? Can/when is she ready to go jogging with us? While we're a new patient, I am 100% sold already. It's a wrenching choice, you want more time to say goodbye, yet you also want to end their suffering. We agreed at home euthanasia was the right choice; being able to say goodbye and cry in peace was more of a comfort. Especially in the time of Covid. I called a few places and Last Kiss said they could come on a Sunday, so we scheduled the appointment. Dr Sarah said she'd let us know when she was on her way and did. We took care of a few things over text like paw prints and ashes. When she arrived, she explained the process and didn't rush us to start or to wrap things up. She was great with my friend's children and other pets who were there with us. No pet owner wants this day to come, but it's nice to know services like this exist.

I remember the horrible day our vet oncologist told me that there were no other treatment options for our cherished Jack Russell Terrier, Lola, and that we needed to prepare for the end of her life. I was referred to Dr. Turkel through a friend and contacted her about coming to our home when we felt it was time to help our girl cross the Rainbow Bridge. Dr. Turkel was very patient answering all of my questions about in-home euthanasia and remains care. Our sweet girl is gone now. Looking back, what I most appreciate was Dr. Turkel's flexibility and responsiveness. There was no pressure to set a specific day or time. We checked in with her every few days and then, as Lola's condition deteriorated, every day with a status on Lola's condition. Dr. Turkel always responded quickly and I never felt pressured to make a decision or set a time. It was a huge relief to know that she was there for us and would take care of all the details so that we could enjoy our final days with Lola. My poor buddy was traumatized by the whole experience; he had MAJOR razor rash and cuts from the groomer (who was sweet and concerned, btw); he didn't want to leave his cage to eat, go out, or even play. He's normally a super social being, but post groomer, he hid in the corner of his cage, pathetically whimpering. Dr. Turkel from Paws to Heal was on it. She treated my pup and me like we were family, and I love her for it! She kept checking on him and continued asking me to send pictures and videos to show her his progress. Dr. Turkel even personally contacted the groomer so she could try to piece together what happened over there. And, in a fit of worry, Dr. Turkel came to our house again at 8:30 Wednesday night to check on my little guy further because he wouldn't stop crying. He was actually happy to see her again! She calmed his nerves and took her time examining him thoroughly. Dr. Turkel was on a mission to heal my dog. We can't thank Paws to Heal enough for its kindness and serious attention to detail. Our puppy is finally on the mend, and I know we have Dr. Turkel to thank for it.

I haven't given a Vetco update in a while, so I wanted to thank Dr. Henderson and her team at Vetco on Clybourn. I left my previous vet after many years because they started focusing more on money than on care. Meeting Dr. Henderson was a blessing. She treats every patient like family. Whenever Sugar has an attack, they find a way to squeeze her in right away. This helps us avoid expensive emergency room visits and keeps the costs down for all the treatments and medications she needs. I honestly thought we would have to put Sugar down last year, but she has made it almost another year with their care. We do everything we can to make her comfortable and give her the best quality of life, and Dr. Henderson's compassion and skill have made a huge difference. One thing I like about Vetco is that I can take care of everything in one trip. After her appointment, I stock up on the pet products we need. The Vetco membership plan has been a big money saver, especially for a senior cat who has to go to the vet often. I do not have pet insurance, and I am not sure it would even cover all of her illnesses, so the membership plan is worth it. Upon checkout I inquired if there was any discount on heart worm prevention medicine because there usually is if you purchase 12 months. Checkout person said no but there is a ten percent mail in rebate. Fine have to get them. Upon arrival home, I see rebate no longer valid AND the RX direct from Petco is $60 dollars less!!!! Went back next day. They don't except medication returns(of course) and will not Refund the difference from the direct price!! Snarky counter person was basically like "sorry , next time" Maybe she can afford to waste $60 on her $12 an hour salary but I cannot!!! DO YOUR RESEARCH.
