Well, it's 2019 now. I phoned this same tow company today, June 1st, for the same service as before…read more(see my glowing 2016 review). My car is the same vehicle, parked in the same space and in the same residential parking garage from where they helped me successfully three years ago. Now however, GNG flatly refuses me service. The guy who answered the phone said that he "damaged his truck last time," which he absolutely did not. Also, he said that "you're on the top floor aren't you?" trying vainly to remember the job, which I am not. I'm on a lower level, one story down from street level. I would think that in three years, GNG only would have gotten three years better and more efficient than they already were. Instead, however, it appears that in that short span of time, they've gotten worse at what it is they claim they do with such expertise. Negative and condescending on the phone, the guy sounds like he hates what he does for a living--or perhaps he was just having a bad day. I phoned them with the same result over a month ago, thus why I felt it was probably time to alert consumers. I suppose there's just that much towing in Chicago, that one can cavalierly decline business and revenue on any given Saturday.

I've had multiple situations with towing, jumpstarts, busted tires, etc. because apparently my car is a POS (bless her engine). But, none of my experiences are stand out--except for this one, thanks to Manny. Manny communicated consistently about his ETA/ timeline for completing other calls before me. So, I wasn't sitting around waiting outside, and he wasn't sitting around waiting for me either. Once he was able to give an accurate ETA, he showed up exactly when he said he would--literally to the minute. He was also extremely knowledgeable about best practices when having to get your car towed. He warned me about all the towing scams that take place around Chicago and how to avoid them. I had no idea there were so many ways for tow companies to milk money. If you take a look at the reviews for other tow companies, it becomes increasingly apparent how common these scams are. The fact that he was so transparent about red flags for other towing companies makes it clear that GNG does none of that. Everything was streamlined with GNG--you pay with a card and your information is all in the system, so you know they don't do any of the shady money-pocketing scams. The price was great too. After my phone company paid their share, I paid $28 out of pocket, which shows that the initial price must have been very reasonable, because in the past my OOPs have been 2X-3X that. If I have any future car issues (which I definitely will... I mentioned my car is a POS, right?), I'm coming back to GNG. And though I'm sure everyone here is awesome, I'll ask for Manny.

I said…read moreI was not going to drink but I ended up have a few drinks and broke my vow to not drink that evening. The night progressed and it was time for us to go home. I walked to my car and was ready to drive home until I tried to start my car and nothing at all happened she was dead. My first thought was a to panic and then I realized I would just search for some help off my phone. This turned out to be a bigger problem because I must have called 15 companies that all were saying they were closed or the numbers were disconnected. Why on earth do you advertise 24 hours if your only open part of the day. Damn you towing companies it is late my car is dead and I'm freezing my ass off. I finally come across Available Roadside and Chicago towing and try their number even though they are a little bit further downtown from where I'm at. OMG someone picks up the phone and asks how can they help me? and what kind of service did I need?. This is just what I wanted to hear for the past 30 minutes and 15 calls prior to theirs. I explained I was parked near halsted and Fullerton and my car was dead and I needed some help and I need it FAST. The person on the phone told he will have a driver out to help my in about 20 minutes since it is late there should be no traffic. Around 20 minutes pass by and I call them to check the status of my call and to see where the driver is at. Right when he places me on hold the truck drives up along the side of me and turns his lights on. Yes!!!! Now I'm feeling a little better. I hang up and get out to speak with the driver who introduced himself as Paul. He asked for my keys and directed me to stand on the sidewalk so that I was out of harms way. He said at times car batteries can explode when they are jump started depending on the condition of the battery. Paul placed a small blue battery box on the engine and connected his cables and my car started. I was so happy I ran over and gave Paul a super big hug and told him he is my hero. Paul was caught a little off guard but was very polite and said it is all in a day's work. He then asked me if i had been drinking which I felt was a little awkward but I told him Yes I had a few drinks with some friends and he then told me he would feel much better if he just towed my car home for me rather then letting me get into the car and drive knowing that I had been drinking. Yes I know real stupid on my end. Paul told me he would not charge me anything more then the charge for the jump and that he just wanted to make sure I got home safely. I did have about 5 drinks which I thought have worn off me in the cold but the moment I was in the heated truck I knew I would have been making a mistake by taking a chance in driving home. Paul delivered my car and I home safe and sound. Paul told me in the process of towing my car he let it run so it would charge the battery at the same time so I would not have any problems starting in the following morning. The service was Great!!! The conversation with Paul was also very pleasant as he said he has seen to many people hurt in accident due to drinking and driving and that's why he offered to tow me home. The price was very fair considering it was the very late at night. The dispatcher was very professional on the phone. I do hope I never have to use another towing company again but if I do I will make sure to keep Available Roadsides number in my phone.
