Really liked the ramen at this smaller format restaurant. We were fortunate to snag a seat since after we arrived the restaurant filled up fast at 4:30pm on a Sunday. The staff is really nice and made sure that we felt welcomed, though they were likely short-staffed. The food still came out at an expected time. The menu is not too complicated...a few types of ramen, choose your spice level. I found that even though requested zero level spice that there was still a detectable spice level for the curry noodle. And the red miso had a douse of chili oil to finish it (I'd guess that without the chili oil that it would have been pretty mild). We ordered extra noodles since we always like the noodles. The noodles are a little wider than what I was expecting, but I like that in my noodles. Was surprised to see a tofu style ramen as well, which makes me think it's more like Chinese style. Whatever style they are trying to demonstrate...they really make a tasty noodle soup! We had the curry beef noodle, with thin sliced beef that you'd likely see at as part of shabu shabu sukiyaki type. I originally thought it'll be more like a saucy curry, but there was some discernable liquid in the soup a pleasant surprise. The red miso was complex, really rich and a winner. The dipping Ramen was quite nice as well. So 3 out of 3 dishes were great! Definitely very filling especially with extra noodles as I had to brown bag some home. I really like Chicago Ramen, think it's my first time at one of their restaurants as they keep trying to grow and expand in Chicagoland. Love the food but not the customer service. We've been here a couple months ago and loved their ramen and appetizers (tuna rice bowl, karaage chicken). My husband who is not usually a ramen fan actually raved about the curry ramen at this place. However, on a recent trip here we were turned away because we arrived one hour before they closed. Now I'm a bit turned off from this place. So the big tip is to call this place before you spend time to drive over. They seem to close arbitrarily ahead of the time listed on site and Google. We were coming back from a road trip and thought wouldn't it be great to have a late night meal at our favorite ramen place but left very disappointed. Walking in they said they had closed and had shut off the kitchen just because they didn't have enough foot traffic or people (as we see a table of customers finishing their food). Thus we had to find another place to eat for our family of 4 late at night. To me, this is just poor business management. If that is the case then please don't list a closing time on your site or with Google. Just list it as TBD and customers can just call in to check on the daily then. I'm being generous to give 3 out of 5 stars because I did like the food here but I believe they have poor business practices. Where do I start?! The ramen bowls are huge. The food tastes so good and savory. The noodles taste so fresh. And you can watch your food being made in front of you. I order the beef curry, red miso ramen for the spice, two kid ramen bowls, gyoza, and chicken karaage. The food was so tasty I almost forgot to get photos of my food. The kids loved the noodles. I thought it was really cool that they had extra garlic, soy sauce, and other spices on the table to tailor your soup the way you like. The server was cool, friendly, he reviewed the popular ramen options, and he came back to check on us to see if it was to our liking. The restaurant gets full pretty fast, I assume because of how good the food is. We came after a big rush, so they were able to accommodate our party of five. read more

Chef Edwardo was great. He came over to our table to check on us and ask us if everything was good with our Ramen soups and appetizers for which we replied EXCELLENT!!! . The pork broth was tasty and the slices of roast pork literally melted in your mouth. Noodles were cooked to perfection. Very nice small restaurant located in a newer strip mall. We went during a Tuesday for lunch and were able to be seated quickly. Now that the weather is cooling off, just a warning that the restaurant seating is pretty chilly with the doors opening and closing. We had the dipping ramen and the spciy red ramen. I highly recommend taking the time to flip through their ramen charts to help you make your food decision. My husband had the dipping ramen. Tip - you can ask them to add additional water/broth to the dipping ramen so that way you can have it as a soup. They also were willing to give additional noodles if you'd like. The char siu pork on that the dishes came with was very soft and juicy. I am not sure if the noodles are made in the store, but they were very good. There was only one waitress attending the tables, so expect to wait a little bit or have to wave over to get assistance. I would say that the serving size may appear to be a bit on the smaller compared to other restaurants (maybe since they expect you to ask for more broth/noodles), but it's still very filling. Also warning that since the door is facing the highway there's a lot of wind resistance against the door, you have to use a bit of muscle to open it upon leaving! But all in all a very good ramen choice if you are in the area. read more

Unexpectedly good. This was my first time at a ramen restaurant and it was a good first impression. It was difficult to order for the first time as I did not know what was what. Not a lot of advice from the staff. The seating area is really small, but the restaurant was full. Lots of post college clientele. Everything I ate had good taste. I was tentative in ordering and again was pleasantly surprised. My significant other loved it. Was in town for a conference and stayed at the hotel around the parking lot. It was a slow night so we had the place to ourselves for the most part. We ordered the Chicken Karaage and the Spicy Miso Ramen. The Chicken Karaage was good not great. I've had really good Karaage in Asia so my Karaage standards are super high. The ramen on the other hand is a different story. I've never had a thick broth ramen before. I have to say it was super good. You probably need to ask for more broth because you'll go through it fast. I'll definitely be back for more next time I'm in town! read more

Really cute little spot for a good bowl of ramen. It's a small space but very cozy. I love that you can see all the food being cooked. The food was delicious and I loved the red miso ramen! It had such good depth of flavor. The curry ramen was very interesting but I don't think I'd get that one as often as the red miso flavor. I came here with some friends during their soft open. I was pretty surprised to find that so many people were already aware of the restaurant being open. It was busier considering it was still new and they were already getting plenty of takeout orders too! This location is a lot closer to me than the other ones so I can already foresee plenty of takeout orders in my near future. Just like the other locations, they serve the usual menu items along with some new ones such as fried oysters. That was different to me so I ended up getting it to try. So happy that there's finally a Ramen spot in Wheeling! I got the chicken karaage, which was nice and juicy. Then I got the spicy red miso ramen, no bamboo shoots and I added an egg. The spicy definitely brings the heat, thought I could handle it haha but I'll probably stick to the regular ramen. I stopped by here with some friends after and event because it was next door. This is a lot more spacious than the Des Plaines location, which is amazing cause we didn't have to wait long to get seated. We were greeted and seated almost immediately. The kitchen is also open concept like the DP location, which is nice. Though, I feel like it's a theme for them. I've been getting their chicken ramen, so I figured I switch back to the spicy miso and see if I remembered it the same. I love the texture of the noodles. It's bouncy, with the right amount of chew. The broth is thicker than I remembered (bcos the chicken broth is a lot lighter). I felt like the noodles were never ending, even though the bowl looks small. I was not a fan of the char sui in my bowl. It fell apart almost immediately upon my chopstick touching it. It's great that it's cooked till tender, but this was a little too tender. Overall, not a terrible thing. I would go back for the chicken one though and skip the pork broths. read more

We pass by this one all the time and finally got to try. It's in a plaza with lots of traffic and in front of a Westin hotel. The white miso was really good, the flavor wasn't too salty, and the mung been sprouts were fresh. I liked it had some pan fried ground meat (might be chicken?). The bamboo shoot was darker than I'm used to, and less flavorful than some other places. Chashu pork was very tender (difficult to do). Regretfully we didn't know for ramen egg and corn those were addons that had to be selected instead of as part of the default. The Tsukemen was also pretty good, the dipping broth was pretty strongly flavored, we finished all the noodles and cooked extra on our own to use up the broth. The preparation seemed minimal, but I think it would've been better if the lemon and seaweed were packed separately, since the lemon seemed discolored from the heat or it's just old. And the seaweed was not crispy anymore. Both combined at bare minimum /default ingredients were ~$30. Definitely pretty pricy, but both were done very well. Excited to try their egg in the future. Maybe I'll go for the spicier red miso next time. read more

Definitely recommend for a few reasons. Service: THEY WERE SO NICE. My family walked up, me in crutches and half pushing our baby in a stroller and my wife with our two other young kids. THEY CAME OUT and picked up our stroller over the sidewalk. Held the door for all of us. Pushed it in toward our table. Set it away for us in the back. And when we left they were so nice and cleared the way. The gentleman working also went under our table to get our diaper bag, hand me my crutches, push our stroller outside for us. I mean... that was so nice of them. Bravo for being welcoming and friendly. The Food: I am a frequent of Chicago Ramen in Des Plaines and this place was just as good. The spicy miso tsukemen was delicious as usual. My wife got red miso ramen. She thought it was delicious, still spicy for not being the spicy version tho. My two older kids got the kids ramen **** also PLUS POINTS for being a ramen joint with a kids menu ****. My daughter loved it so much she ordered a 2nd ramen. I should mention my kids don't like trying new things often, so it was great they liked their food so much. I think they now also love sun noodles, naruto and nori seaweed. Also got the Japanese Calimari. The only critique is the chunks were too big. I'd like them smaller and bite sized so you don't have to struggle with chewing pieces off. Still very tasty. I wanted to wait until our second visit to review this place, so I could get a sense of how consistent they were. After this visit, I can honestly say this is the BEST ramen my husband and I have had outside of Asia. It also beats most of the ramen we've had in Asia. For us, and in our experience searching for great ramen, we most often find that it is too salty and not enjoyable- but this ramen is exactly what we were looking for and exactly the balanced flavors that make truly exceptional ramen stand out. Red Miso Ramen: INCREDIBLE! The depth of the broth, the balanced flavors with perfect umami, and the way the noodles soak up that flavor in the amazing broth makes this a ramen you will crave and come back for. The chashu is so incredibly tender that it pulls apart easily and melts in your mouth. Highly, highly recommended!! Curry Beef Ramen: this is a unique flavor profile to find on a ramen menu. To be honest, my experience with curry-based dishes in Korea and Japan were a big miss compared to curries from India and Southeast Asia, so we weren't sure what to expect. It was fantastic! This is my husband's favorite so far. The curry on top of the bowl is thick, but the broth below is light and full of wonderful spices. Like the Red Miso, the perfectly cooked noodles soak in the flavors of the broth so every bite leaves you ready for the next. We promise to try the other styles of ramen they offer, as I am sure they are amazing, but we couldn't tear our tastebuds away from these two. My husband and I wanted to try something new with friends, so we went went to Chicago Ramen. Right away we were greeted with an amazing aroma of ramen and I was immediately excited to browse the menu and order. For appetizers we ordered garlic edamame and my main entree was the vegetable ramen with an egg. Both were flavorful and very filling. The entrees did come first, so I filled up on the ramen before eating the apps. The service here was excellent as everyone was greeted and said goodbye to by one of the chefs and there were multiple service staff checking in on our table. Very disappointed.. I used to visit the des plaines chicago ramen and have always had amazing experiences with the food and the service. With the great memories i went to wheeling chicago ramen today expecting the quality to be somewhat similar. In a single sentence - it was an awful experience. To start off, the food came out very late despite having only a few customers indoor. It also felt like the server didn't know about the store's menus, which led to some difficulty ordering food. Most important part - the food was bad. Knowing how good the des plaines location is, I'd probably never come back to this location. I'll review dish by dish. Karaage: The karaage was half the size I would normally get at the different store but more expensive. The taste was okay, but it's not worth for 10 dollars. Curry ramen: They poured a dump of black peppers into curry ramen, and my stomach hurts now. The soup was a bit watery and salty. Tsukemen: the noodle was undercooked and i could feel it. The meat was cold. Plus they didn't drain the water all the way. Red miso ramen: this didn't really have any distinct taste but oily. Meat was a bit cold. The noodle and bamboo shoots (mennma) were undercooked. Overall, the quality of service i got for what i paid didnt fulfill my satisfaction - and I genuinely hope this review helps the store improve on the quality of food. read more
