Almost inspired me to hang on to aforementioned mandolin. But I sold it to them so that it would end up in the proper set of hands. While there I chatted with the owner and his assistants who were friendly, extremely knowledgeable and clearly in tune with musicians. They will find it a good home. We were walking around downtown and stopping at shops as we passed them, curious to learn what the insides looked like and what the place truly offered. This is a classic old school music store IMO. Mike stated new strings had come out from a particular popular brand name that contained a coating of some kind that not only limited your fingertips from being cut, but it also extends the life of the strings. I couldnt wait to try it out. When i got home, i played for about and hour and the difference with the new type of strings was incredible. Worst music store on Earth. I paid $100 to have my brand new setup from the factory Epiphone masterbuilt set up for the strings that I like to use. All that really needed to be done was filing the nut for the gauge of string that I like and the rest didn't need to be touched at all. Instead of this basic stuff these incompetent assholes did not touch the setup of this guitar at all. I took it to the experts at the Guitar Center and they confirmed that no setup had been done on it. They also confirmed that the strings, the $20 strings that I had paid to have put on we're not put on and we're in fact the cheapest strings that came from the factory. So mark stole $120 of my money and in return I got a guitar back that I could not play. I will never if it's the last f****** music store open on Earth will I ever spend another dime at the s***** s***** Chicago music store. They can go straight to hell. Selection in guitars, my interest, was good but I didn't find what I was looking for, nonetheless. Personnel were helpful, and inventory is squeezed here and there, OK, crammed. Nonetheless, my highly-defined interests weren't served. I gained the sense that their staff largely knows their musical turf, and although supply chain in the music industry is tough, I wish they had what I wanted, as I felt I'd get the service there that I would subsequently wanted. I can't see what else you would want from a small hometown music store. They have a generous selection of guitars, straps , strings , keys. It's the customer service you get from a shop that knows your name that just doesn't happen at bigger stores. If you need a guitar set up or a woodwind / Brass instrument worked on - Mike and Nugget are the best I've seen- levels above the rest. 02/03/18, I purchased about $450 worth of sound system equipment here. I went to return about $60 worth of unopened cords today, 02/20/2018, with my receipt. The senior store representative very politely stated that no purchase returns were accepted past 7 days. Parking can also be an issue. Their parking is extremely tricky. The parking lot across the street is divided into sections, and if you park, even for two minutes, in the wrong section, you will be issued a ticket to pay $62.50. I did give an extra Star because the two employees were helpful for the less than 60 seconds I was there. They were the only humans in the place. Now I know why. read more

I went in there today to look around after seeing the reviews and reading the filtered reviews as well. I was actually next door at their sister store, Music Land, looking at and purchasing sheetmusic. I didn't see any "dusty, dirty" store at all. It is an aged building, but it was clean. It doesn't have the inventory that Guitar Center has, but the prices were in line with Guitar Center's. I checked a few items like the Peavey 20 USB Mixer and the Toca Synergy congas with stand. The prices were identical to Guitar Center's. The staff seemed friendly. I didn't ask them any questions, but I'm sure they would be helpful. They do carry some items and instruments that Guitar Center does not, I guarantee that. It is an interesting store to check out. If their prices are the same as Guitar Center's, then I recommend supporting a local business (which offers instrument repairs, gives lessons, and supports the music programs in the area's school districts) over a national chain. read more

I took my instrument for repair and got it back but when I play tested it there was still a leak and a torn pad. took instrument back did not see it for almost a month. there was no communication as to why my instrument was not getting fixed and so I would call to get updates. all their responses were we will get to it next week, we are slammed... but school concerts were over and schools were out. I would get nothing but that response week after week. I ended up missing two performanceS... I got tired of waiting and went in and picked up my instrument. I had it evaluated by another company and all the pads were leaking from the very begging since the first time I got it back. so the job was not done correct the first time around. they also up charged me for a soldering of a part that was broken by them... the other company that i evaluate my instrument also made me aware of no sign on the flute of soldering, absolutely no traces. if its a store that will treat your instrument with care and actually fix it Chicago Music a store is NOT the place. a lot of friends always ask me about music stores, or locations to repair instruments well this place is not on that list anymore.. great group of people but I'm sorry! Exactl how wonderful is this place? It's BEYOND wonderful! With every imaginable instrument on display, it's like entering a musical superstore and museum all rolled into one. Even better, the professionals (specifically Mark, Jim and Abraham) manning the sales and repair desks know precisely what to do with every instrument and accessory - everything's at their fingertips. I took my ancient clarinet, which I haven't played in 55 years, to Chicago Music Store for an overhaul and they even provided me a free "loaner" on which to practice, plus two free clarinet lessons, while my instrument is being repaired. The cost for the renovation was more than fair (I know because I shopped around). Parking is readily available. Chicago Music Store is a gem in downtown Tucson. read more

My experience: Good prices, poor customer service. 'Needed a mic and speakers for a private event. Their rates were reasonable, so i picked up the equipment on rental. The staff was friendly and helpful with selection of equipment. Day of the event: the cord for the speakers was so loose it kept disconnecting a few times a minute. The guest invited to perform tried a few times and then gave up causing huge disappointment to the invitees and embarrassment for the host. The whole point of a sound system was lost. When returning equipment i complained about this matter and wondered why I should pay for faulty equipment. They checked and admitted the problem was there. I would have been fine with an apology and offer of even a partial refund for equipment that just didn't work. I was extremely disappointed when they told me flatly they have a "No refund on rentals" policy. I wished them well and that was the end of my experience with this store. read more

This place is honestly so dusty and disorganized I couldn't tell if I was in a music store or a thrift shop. I suppose if you are willing to sift around for a purchase then you wouldn't mind shopping here but they are not exactly a bargain either. We have been in here several times and although I don't like salespeople hounding me, I have never had one here ask me if I needed any help or greet me for that matter. The worsed guitar outlet on Earth. Their better selection are the keyboards and hand drums, but I have to say their wide range of acustic guitars are valuable. A warning if you want a custom electric, you're designed to get ripped off. Try something better, their school band intstruments would be the perfect choice. read more

I could not be more pleased than I am with this store. I don't live in Tucson, but come for several months a year. I have a nice violin at home, which I started playing again after many years of neglect (one small benefit of CoVid isolation, I guess). I didn't want to chance traveling with it, so decided to look into getting a 2nd hand instrument for use here in Arizona. I tried OfferUp and Craig's list, but without satisfactory results. Reading advice on line, I came to the conclusion that a wiser choice would be to go to an actual music shop. Best advice EVER! Their service and attention to my needs and ability levels were outstanding. There was no effort to get me to buy anything more than that decent used student violin I desired. When we discovered a few things about the one I chose that needed adjusting - the bow needed a little attention, the chin rest was totally wrong for me, and I really needed a shoulder rest - they helped me out both with completely reasonable prices and by trading straight across. My eldest daughter is a violinist and ran out of rosin. In previous years, it was provided by the school, but no longer. My husband and daughter were immediately waited upon and given the rosin she needed. The sales clerk mentioned a more expensive product, but didn't push it at all. The customer service was great and they were in and out of the store in minutes. The next time we have any instrument needs, violin or guitar (which my youngest plays), we know where to go. read more
