If I could give this place 10 stars I would. I am a vocalist that has a Yamaha keyboard and had a specific piece missing due to excessive moving around/moving instruments. The older gentleman helped and I went out of his way to find this part which was found ! I can't say how incredibly helpful this person was. I haven't been to guitar center since I was a teenager, but I stopped in today for strings for my guitar. I was greeted immediately, and given great advice for selecting strings and a tool. I was also invited behind the counter to pick some things for myself, while exchanging friendly banter with the staff. Peeps were shredding around the shop, just like it always was when I stopped in as a kid. Customers of every age filled the shop, all happy, sharing their love for music. I remember why I regularly begged my mom to drive me there! Ha! Love it. read more

Going to a guitar store when you're starting out is kind of like entering the free weight section at the gym the first time. You don't really know what you're doing and you have a lot of people around you that do. In any case, been here a couple times on the weekend recently and it's been pretty good. Everyone seemed pretty cool, I was able to find someone to answer a question and the checkout went smoothly both times. It did feel like they needed one more employee with all of the customers in the shop, but maybe they were on lunch or they're just making dir with what they have. In any case it's a nice shop. read more

Purchased a hand pan from this place for pick up and was given a used damaged good that was used for their display. It had scratches and was dented and chipped, and had sticky hand marks all over it and was out of tune. I called for an exchange and they said that it was standard to sell instruments that were out for display, even if they were damaged. I said that I was disappointed that that was their policy, and they said that that was just the way it was and if it was damaged then so be it I can bring it back. Clearly, this business has no self-respect and value for their customers if they're willing to hand over a damaged product. I did not notice it was damaged until I got home because it was given to me in a box. I called to complain, and was spoken to as if it was my problem and I should've known that that was their policy. I can't argue the fact even though I've always tried to support local music businesses but, guitar center just has better selection, better availability and overall better prices. Their service on the other hand is horrible. Some really bad smelling and filthy looking homeless guy sitting in their acoustic guitar room talking to himself while making horrible noise on a $1000 guitar that they let him take off the rack I guess. I was really interested on buying a nice acoustic but was ignored by an employee in the back room that apparantly didn't have the guts to run this bum off so "buying" customers could check out their selection of Martins and Taylor's. After about ten minutes I left. Decided against blowing THOUSANDS on an acoustic because of this.. Guitar Center's absolute best policy is: 45 day return on any instruments, electronics,, or amp purchased. No questions asked. I've bought many amps and instruments here (new and used) because of this and have yet needed to return any of them. If local music shops would adapt such a policy, they wouldn't be struggling or going out of business. 3 stars. read more

I signed up for recurring lessons to learn guitar. After completing the first month, I decided to cancel them. Instead they charged me for a 2nd month and no one answers the phone at the store for "classes" and the 800 number is saying they can't help with lessons (even though the 800 number signed me up!). The only way to stop recurring charges is to dispute it as fraud AND cancel the card to prevent future charges. read more

Don't expect any customer service. I stood around for a half hour looking at Fender amps that ranged from $1000 to $2500 for the new twin reverbs. How in the world does Guitar Center expect to "sell" anything if they don't accost the customer and be a salesperson and inform, explain and actually talk to ANY customer who's looking to buy some expensive musical instrument? I went into ALL depts. Not one employee came to me and tried to help me. NONE! I was ready to drop a few thousand dollars, and no one would help me. The young white guy behind the strings and accessories counter with the dreadlocks just thought he was so cool working there that selling instruments and anything else didn't matter. I was waiting while he talked to his band friend ignoring me. His band friend was buying some picks, and I was needing help in dropping a few thousand on a Fender tube amp and ordering a $400 FX pedal. No one assisted me so I left. I was in the acoustic guitar rooms looking at the high-end guitars which were locked. NO ONE HELPED ME! There was some homeless person sitting there on a guitar making noise. I found a cheaper unlocked guitar and tried to check it out. They homeless bum made so much noise playing his out-of-tune guitar I couldn't hear myself play the guitar I was holding. After a few minutes as I was putting the guitar down, an employee walks out of the acoustic rooms, doesn't even acknowledge me and leaves?! Are you freaking kidding me? How the F are you going to sell a $3500 Martin if no one is there to 1) unlock the guitar and 2) to assist you in accessing and playing the guitar? It's crazy! Pro-Audio dept? not one employee there either. Walked in and looked at some $1000 subs and speakers. NO ONE AVAILABLE TO ASSIST MY NEEDS? GOODBYE GC. These aren't employees, these are young people in local bands that ignore customers /musicians. But it was OK for them to allow a couple kids to play loud music in the front for an hour. Crazy. Through the years I have purchased tens of thousands from this store. aND i DON'T KNOW WHY. These punk and rude narcissistic employees don't care. How can "corporate" allow these people they've hired to SELL THEIR MERCHANDISE do this to the company revenue? LOSSES of revenue if documented would shock the corporate owners. I'm TELLING YOU MILLIONS! If they hired me, I could 100 times minimum out-sell these worthless punk employees. All I would have to do would be to ask customers if they "needed help". It's backwards-Bob no sense or logic crazy world inside this place. If Guitar Center cared about REALLY SELLING stuff in their store, they would fire every employee they have and replace them with...wait for it.......REAL PROFESSIONAL SALESPEOPLE. Got to the store at 10am thinking they would be open. 11am on the door. Not waiting an hour for these losers to open up so went over to Chicago store on speedway (who opened at an appropriate business time), ordered my pedal ($400plus and dropped a thousand bucks on that and some other various items in store, all because of Guitar Centers hours. Imagine how much revenue Guitar Center loses because of these worthless employees and stupid hours. MILLIONS if you were to add it up over a few months' time. MILLIONS OF DOLLARS in lost revenue because of these pathetic unqualified salespeople. It's disgusting. I thought a business was about selling stuff and revenue. Not here. I've had mixed experiences with Guitar Center. Several years ago I bought an instrument from them, and was impressed with the inventory and the staff. More recently I stopped in shopping for an audio mixer- there weren't many on display, and when I looked for staff for assistance, there was nobody around. Not sure how this store is even open still. Every month it seems to get worse and worse. Employees are rude and seem angry, the store is a mess - very dusty and dirty with things being out of place everywhere. It really looks like a second hand store. The guitars have grime and fingerprints all over them and are not taken care of properly. They also don't seem to ever have anything in stock except for cheap junk that no one else wanted. Their guitar tech never has any available appointments. Almost every aspect of this store is wrong. read more

Paid for an expensive 3 yr warranty for my brand new guitar (6 mo ago) and when I hooked it up to an amp for the first time it was cutting in and out, the electric parts were busted up. Took it back and they said they would do the repair and it would be covered under the warranty. Took them 3 months to repair it and they charged me over $100 with no discounts or coverage with the warranty. That's just terrible business. read more

I visited the Guitar Center website and they have a ride cymbal that I am interested in. We located the cymbal and asked one of the associates if he could pull it off the shelf so I could play it. (No two cymbals are alike and ride cymbals are very personal). The associate tells me that the only way I can play it is on the rack. They have a drum set in the cymbal room. Most music stores encourage customers to try out an instrument. I know you can ask someone to pull a guitar off the shelf. This was not the case with the cymbals. I was very disappointed. Stood around waiting for someone to ask if I needed assistance for about 10 minutes. Never happened. Went in for simple restring of my acoustic and they said they'd call when done. Few hours later, still no call I did. They told me it was ready so I came down to pick it up. I come back, literally 1 employee is out on the floor and is already swamped. I ask for my guitar and he says he'll help when he's done. Another one comes out, so I ask again. He goes to the back to look for it and now they can't find it. The line of customers keeps growing but still only 1-2 dudes out on the floor. Unorganized, too lax, and not enough workers apparently. I was in this store a year ago - it was well stocked with new and old gear, sensible displays and although it was noticeably understaffed, it was easy to find and purchase what I needed. I visited again yesterday, and was shocked at the changes. Gear was poorly displayed. The inventory was anemic. I was looking for a new mixer, and two sweeps of the store did not turn up any. Finally, I was able to track down a sales rep, and they pointed to a few mixers that were on a very high shelf in the pro audio room - unmarked and seemingly hidden, no price markings at all. The sales rep wasn't thrilled at the prospect of climbing a ladder to look at the boxes. On my previous visit, the mixers had been proudly displayed on a rack along the sidewall of the store, with display models on the top shelf, and prices clearly marked. After realizing there were no decent mixers in stock, I went looking for acoustic guitar preamps - there was a gentleman behind the counter who politely told me that it wasn't his specialty, perhaps I should ask the luthiers in the service department. They were busy - so I ended up leaving the store puzzled and empty handed. As for the mixer I was shopping for, I ended up buying one from an online retailer. Cole was professional, calm, and cheerful, even with the ever growing line of patrons. He performed the repair quickly and efficiently. And now my grandson is happily "shredding", just as Cole said. We were visiting Tucson and spotted this Guitar Center while looking for something to eat so after dinner we stopped in to see how it compared to ours (in Chandler). It was nice to see the consistency from store to store. This store was clean and had a nice selection. It is a well organized store with good signage. As is expected, there are instruments available for playing and the employees were friendly but don't bother you while you walk around the store. No complaints from this yelper. read more

Went with my fiance to exchange the microphone he just purchased. The sales clerk stated that there was an attachment missing. He found it and put it on the microphone to where it was not able to be on the stand. The clerk was helpful and informative. The rest of the folks there were ok. read more

Ordered a guitar that was shipped to the nearest GC location to me. This was my 1st time purchasing a guitar in this manner from GC. The item was not out of stock or back ordered. It took 11 days to ship to the store. I go to pick up the guitar, and they bring the thing out in an unopened shipping crate, not checked by the store for damage, or set up like any other guitar hanging on their walls. Next time I'll order from Sweetwater and get it in a fraction of the time, and it will go through a 59 point check point system before shipped. Also, everytime I visit this store, there are different employees, never the same faces. Says a lot about this place. read more

I have been there recently on multiple occasions. Every time I was there, I was properly greeted and was made to feel comfortable there. I have worked a lifetime in the retail management sector, so when I read some of these other reviews, I have to question whether they actually stepped foot in the same building as I did. On some visits, I didn't spend a dime, and was still treated well. On one occasion, I did buy a guitar from Jake, and he was nothing less than first class. I narrowed it down to two guitars, and he went above and beyond to make sure that I got what I WANTED, not what was the most expensive, but what would be the best fit for me. I also have to add that the store manager was very on top of things on every occasion that I have been in there. If I was the district manager, or corporate level management, I would be extremely pleased with the staff at the Broadway location. If restaurants took a note from how Guitar Center treated me, we would certainly eat out more. read more

I left Green Valley for my 3rd scheduled guitar lesson at Guitar Center on Broadway. When I arrived they told me my lesson was canx. After driving 30 miles to my lesson, I wasn't too happy cause they never called to tell me it was canx. I was very surprised and dissapointed i really liked my instructor but letting me drive in from Green Valley and not calling me about the cancellation was inexcuseable and very unprofessional. Every time I deal with Guitar Center I seem to ask why I have forgotten all the other times I tried to deal with Guitar Center. Just last month I tried to spend a thousand dollars or so at one on a used instrument (Cleveland, if you are keeping score at home)...a transaction that was derailed when I had the temerity to ask what color the guitar was. No worries...this time I need a couple of $10 cables and maybe a handful of picks. What could possibly go wrong? We can begin with the utter absence of inexpensive cables at the store. While the GC web site is replete with possibilities, everything in the store was at last 4x what I was willing to spend. Or at least I think it was, as when I walked up to the counter, a counter featuring not one but two employees, one on either side, I was roundly ignored. Their vapid conversation about a local cover band was apparently more important than the unlikeliest of animals: a customer with a credit rating north of 100. I am pretty sure the young man on the customer side of the counter was actually more than a little interested in objectifying the young woman on the other side in some meaningful way. I am also sure his effort was, as was often the case with Reggie Jackson in days of yore, a swing and a miss. But like Reggie, keep swinging young man. Sooner or later you will get one you can hit. The decline of standards in these United States will ultimately work in your favor. I won't even get into the gaggle of other employees hanging out in every other corner of the store not helping customers. But then, they might never have seen one. I'll just order the damn things online from some other company and wait 3-5 business days. It's easier for everyone that way. read more

First off, I am in California. I purchased a used Rocktron Gainiac online from the Tucson store. I just received the unit today. Whomever packaged the item sent a lousy piece of crap power supply that would damage the unit. The Rocktron Gainiac requires a 9 volt AC power supply with a minimum of 1.5 amp current rating. Some moron sent me a 9 volt DC power supply with a 150 milliwatt rating. Some idiot cut and spliced the wires for some reason. If the bonehead plugged this in with that power supply, the stupid@$$ probably fried the unit. As it is, I can't use the device because I am intelligent enough to check the requirements before plugging in the power supply. Do they hire morons at Guitar Center? If I don't receive a good functional power supply or if the unit is damaged, I want my money back. The next day: Called Guitar Center Tucson and talked to the manager about the wrong, inappropriate power supply that their employee sent me. I let them know that Guitar Center Pasadena found an interim power supply until I get what I need. I believe the manager's name is Ed, had told me that they will have their warehouse guy find an oversized wall wart 9 volt AC 1500 to 2000 millivolt (1.5 to 2 Amp) power supply and send it to me. Real musicians know that the only reason you go here is to mess around on equipment that you can treat like absolute shit or just outright break for the fun of it because, what are they gonna do? Kick you out? OH NOES!!! Ok, so I dont go here to break stuff. But I do go here for the same reason any decent musician does: to show off how good a musician I am to all the amateurs who showed up to buy something. What? At least Im honest... The prices are ridiculous (although they will match prices online, they usually dont do it unless you do the research first). Their instruments are treated like crap, and their employees are bitter has-beens who take out their frustrations over a crappy commission job on their customers. Their in-house tech is a joke: Ive seen him ruin more guitars than fix. Their acoustic room is kept at a ridiculously high relative humidity which means that $3000 Taylor you just bought is going to be completely fucked 6 weeks after you take it home to your air conditioned, low-humidity home. Good thing they have a 30 day return policy! Oh wait, you just got screwed. Smart people only buy something from here when there's absolutely nowhere else to buy it or your in a real bind to get something fast. This isn't a local business. For some things (low priced amplifiers, basic effects, strings etc) the store is good. The guitars are typically in need of setup. The real problem is the customers. This location has a problem with knob theft. One time I looked at an American Standard Stratocaster; it felt great until my hand slid onto snot. There was snot on a $1000+ instrument. The snot was a deal breaker. This isn't the worst music store in Tucson. read more

The customer service has really gone down hill, 2 weeks ago I was in the Broadway location in Tucson and I wanted to purchase a Peavey Mixer XR AT, the sales associate told me they didn't sell Peavey any more, I told him that was crap because I saw the mixer on Guitar center website, he attempted to push something else on me so I left, today I contact them to discuss a Monster guitar cable that I purchased from them that has a lifetime warranty and now has a short and the audio guy tells me they no longer honor the warranty since they make there own brand, he says I should have purchased one of there brand, so I'm out a cable and a warranty and I got free lip service from the audio sales guy.
