I was looking for a Gibson Dove. Hard to find in SW Florida so after an on-line search I called Rainbow. I was surprised they answered the phone after 5pm on the Saturday before Christmas but they did. Harvey told me they were just closing out a last minute sale and since they were there they went ahead and answered the phone! I got lucky. Harvey sent me a few photos of a beautiful new Dove, shot me a great price on the phone took my card info and done! Guitar arrived as promised and if you are an accoustic player and have never played a Dove... you're missing out.

My family has been buying guitars from Rainbow since 2002. We moved in 2004 and never did get a chance to come back and visit over the years. Fast forward to 2022 and to my surprise, ITS STILL THERE! Every Saturday my Dad used to take us in here and it was always a treat. He always spoke of Rainbow as the best shop in town with the best gear. Always a fully packed store of people just hanging out and sharing the love of music. There is a reason why Harvey has been in business for so long. Last year, I started playing guitar again and I decided to buy a special PRS wood library they had. While I am out of state, Harvey was VERY accommodating, offering a live over the phone demo of the two I was looking at and giving me his honest opinions. I definitely had a great feeling buying from them. No overly pushy tactics, no BS, just great service. I picked one and it showed up a few days later. It was SUPER well double boxes and packed. It was packed so well, it took 10mins to get it out! I'm not complaining about that at all! Best pack job in the industry IMO. To my amazement, it was better than the pictures. It was THE dream guitar. So, needless to say, just like my father did, I'll be buying my premium gear from rainbow always going forward. I only wish I lived locally but Rainbow is definitely doing it right when it comes to the personalized appointments and service.

It's ironic how life can present the world to us at times. Today, after what's seems like an eternity, just out of the blue I made an appointment to go see Stefin Gordon at Rainbow and check out their huge selection of high end acoustic guitars. I've been a longtime customer of Rainbow, but my career as an ER nurse had kept me insanely busy over the course of the pandemic. Even after it was over, I was so burned out emotionally, I just couldn't even reach for my guitar. So today, ironically, something just told me, it was time. I called and spoke briefly to Stefin and said that I was looking forward to seeing everyone again, including my old buddy Scott Riedle. Once I arrived, Stefin told me the terrible news of Scott's passing. It really hit me cause I had come to know Scott as someone I would regard as a friend. I feel so bad cause I was so caught up in the pandemic and all it's horrors I never even knew Scott was ill. We chatted about him, of course and then explored my next purchase. It was, despite learning of Scott's passing a delightful experience as always and I look forward to seeing Stefin and the others again very soon. Once I got home I looked up Scott's information and I come to realize that he passed away a year ago. Who knows, maybe Scott was giving me a kick in the butt from the other side, saying "come on man, start playing again!" Regardless, that's how I'm going to interpret this coincidence. I'll be getting a new guitar from your friends soon Scott, and I'll be thinking about you when I play., Miss ya buddy!

Always something interesting. Great selection of new and used guitars. Helpful and knowledgeable staff. Steffan is easy to work with. Bought a guitar from him last fall. Shipped to my home. On time and well packaged. Here's a photo. Perfect setup up, gets played every day!

best independent music store ever. you can go to K-Mart=Guitar Center, but if you want the best and to give back to a local business Rainbow should be your place. Everything in the store is cool. Closed on Mondays. Also, Right next door they have the best guitar techs in the business. You might have to wait, but they will take care of your investments.

They helped me trade in a guitar to get a guitar. This was a new concept for me. But, it helped me get a great acoustic guitar. Thank you.

Great selection of quality instruments. I bought my starter Yamaha guitar from these guys and five years later came back for a Taylor!

I brought in a high end acoustic guitar for a simple pickup installation. I called first and was…read moretold they might be able to get it done the same day or maybe the next. I arrived within an hour of my call and learned that it would be a few days since it was a Friday and they are closed Sunday. (Not bad really but I needed it was told it was probable) I was told I could pay an upcharge for "express service" and agreed. I picked up the guitar the next day. When I got home I discovered the soundhole mounted control panel with Volume and tone controls was mounted so far to the rear that my index finger was wedged between the low E string and the tone knob in order to turn the thumbwheel. I was not told or informed whether there may be an issue with placement due to bracing. I would understand I that's the case but I should have been informed or asked about it. This makes using the tone knob impractical. The express service upcharge was essentially a waste of money because I had to drive back and leave the guitar. This time a couple more days. Chuck said they were short staffed maybe they could get it the next day. It's mounted with Double sided sticky tape and/or velcro. How long could it take? Two days later with no contact I just drove back and picked up the guitar and I'll get it fixed elsewhere. I have gigs I need to play and that's what I got this guitar for. I gig professionally and did 145 shows last year. Again, Chuck said they were short staffed but my experience is delivery time to fix an issue became a moving targett. I understand things happen but this was not a good first experience with the shop. I probably won't go back. Their charges are also higher than what other shops charge in town b based on my 30 years of gigging in Tucson. Overall this is not a huge deal but my first experience with this shop including 'express service' was not good.

After my luthier of record retired, I was referred to Gabriels. Took in my brand new electric…read moreguitar I bought for retirement for a setup. Upon meeting him he was upbeat but as soon as I dropped the case on the counter and he saw the brand his demeaner change to sour. So he didn't like the brand ok but don't make the customer feel bad about it. Wasn't like it was a budget/cheap guitar that's for sure. Anyway, he quickly put a fret level tool on it and went on about how fret leveling was badly needed among other things. (Brand new high end guitar?) Told me the cost and I almost feel over but said ok, get things done. Was told it would take a week but after another day he made contact saying it was done. Wow, really? Well, ok great I suppose. So with a month or so of playing on it, I still felt the fret ends were not dressed well and the action was wrong. I sought out another luthier and he was much more pleasant and easy going. Didn't talk TO me but WITH me as it were and he sure made me feel good about my retirement present/choice. Anyway, my new lutheir is a seasoned pro and he pointed out issues that clearly shouldn't be there with the kind of bank I recently spent at Gabriel's. While many clearly liking this shop and Chuck, as a professional in my line of work he didn't impress me all so much. Well, no doubt ya can't please everyone I suppose but I won't be back.

I was recently given a guitar to start learning on, the most obvious issue being that it's missing…read moresome strings. I figured I would take it to a local business to have it it re-strung and looked over. I waited all week to go at a time outside of my work hours because their hours are very limited. I walked in holding the guitar and the first thing that was said to me when I walked in was "we're not doing anymore repairs today". The gentleman then asked me what was wrong with it and I explained that I didn't know what and wanted it looked at. He offered to write up a value on it to let me know how much it could be worth, and I explained to him that my intention was to play this guitar and that would really only be helpful to know to compare to the cost of repair. He did show me a few guitars they had in house at what seemed like a decent price. But instructed me to come back when the repairman was in, which could be anytime because even though he had hours, he is a gig worker and sometimes has to leave. It largely felt like he was more interested in selling me something versus addressing the concerns I currently had. Can't blame him in this economy, I suppose. He was kind and it is a cool shop, just didn't seem like it was what I needed based on my situation. This place has a very small town, small store feel - if you're looking for a wide variety of instruments and/or consistent hours, this might not be the right choice for you either.

Great place to find out what is happening musically in town and buy tickets to shows.read more
