I have had some eye injuries and troubles over the years and am no stranger to an optometrist's office. And I can honestly say I've never had such a thorough exam. I felt so bad for her because she constantly rubbed her eyes and couldn't see very well. This went on for years so when I took her to the Doctor, I ask why she had to come back every month and wanted to know what her problem was. They just walked away and would't answer me. I was referred to take her to Panton eye center so I made an appointment. Her first visit I was told that my mother was in a lot of pain and needed to be put into the hospital to have surgery. A few days after the surgery, first thing my mother said was 'my eyes don't hurt and I can see.' It was such a excellent experience for my mom that I won't go anywhere else because these Doctors are the best. I love the fact that when I call for an appointment, the staff is very effiencent in making sure I had all the information in advance of what they needed and of course checked to make sure my insurance would cover there services before I schedule an appointment. I decided to write this because I want someone who is seriously looking for a great Doctor to know you have found one. I have another appointment tomorrow and was looking up the address and couldn't believe some of these reviews. They have nothing to do with how good the Doctors are which surprises me that they are considered reviews. I can't believe anyone would think that they can walk into a doctors offfice and think that the Doctor that is waiting for his first client, that has an appointment, would see them on the spot. It takes more than 15 minutes to see the Doctor. Then the patient that has an appointment will have to wait and so on. Thats why its called an appointment. I can honestly say, you will walk away with the best care and professional service you could possibly receive. Before any of you decide to write a review for anyone give yourself a day to think about it. Remember what comes around goes around and we all have bad days. You shouldn't take it out on devoted passionate people who go to work everyday and take pride to help those who need their expertise.

I became a patient of Dr. Nancy's when I was in Junior High. The first time I came to Nancy's…read moreoffice I was rocking some hideous, "coke-bottle", glasses and had no delusions of ever being able to wear contacts. All of the optometrists my mother had taken me to in the past informed us that my strabismus wouldn't allow for anything but thick lenses. Thanks to Dr. Nancy, by the time I was at my eighth grade graduation I was rocking contact lenses and had a pair of glasses with "normal" looking lenses at home for when I felt like wearing them. Dr. Nancy is well informed and up to date on research in the field of ophthalmology. She is happy to answer any questions that I may have (I tend to ask a lot of medical questions because I am a biological scientist). Years later, I now take my daughter to see Dr. Nancy and am willing to drive from my work in Evanston to Oak Park during rush hour. It's worth the trouble because Dr Nancy and her fantastic staff (Anya is so helpful and kind!) are amazing!

He proceeded with the exam and I explained that my reading vision had gotten worse. He spent just a minute or 2 on the distance exam then flipped over to the near vision exam, which consisted of having to say which type of 12 intersecting lines were darker, the vertical or horizontal. There was no explanation and in all my eye exams throughout my life I don't recall ever doing this one. It was honestly hard to tell, they mostly all looked the same to me, but I did my best to answer. Well I must have been giving the "wrong" answer because Dr Tan actually started getting irritated at me and repeated my answer back at me basically yelling at me. I wish I had ended the exam right at that moment, called him out on this insanely unprofessional behavior and walked out but I was so taken aback I didn't know what to say. I did say "do you not believe me?" which tells you how crazy the interaction was. The exam ended and he proceeded to talk in circles about my prescription, and of course warn me that my prescription is so terrible that I should not order glasses online. I think I will go somewhere else from now on where the doctor doesn't yell at the patients.

I was looking for a practice that uses advanced technology (has optomap retinal scanning) and a good selection of frames, and isn't run by old people afraid of technology. Enter Dr. Franceschini's practice. I was so glad I found them. Easy to book an appointment as a new patient back when I found this office in 2016. I was super pregnant at the time so wanted to get my new glasses before the baby was due, and his folks were great about working with the lab to get them done and to me before baby got here. When I came in for this year's eye exam, I was pleasantly (read: extremely) suprised and happy to see that the office had moved to an electronic lens system for the eye exam. Meaning, Dr. Franceschini switches between "1" and "2" with a cool remote-like thing. It means he's less in your face (not that it was an issue) and you can compare the exam letters more easily. I love the embracing of technology. Moving along to Dr. Franceschini's staff - they are a friendly, amazing, helpful group. Gina is my technician and she's been great in helping me find frames, order frames, debate frames...I seriously think she's amazing. She also helped me with my contact fittings this year. In an era where customer service seems to be dead, Dr. Franceschini's office and Oakbrook Optical seriously take great care of their patients/customers. I can't imagine going anywhere else to have my eyes taken care of. Seriously - great service, advanced eyecare technology, great people. That's my takehome message. However, my experience with the staff, particularly Collette, was disappointing. After my exam, I worked with Collette to try on frames for my low prescription. I found a pair I liked but decided to hold off until I felt better and could return with a second opinion. Collette made a subtle remark under her breath about hoping the frames would still be there, which struck me as unnecessary. Two days later, she called to ask if I was coming back for the frames. When I explained that I was still deciding and had requested a copy of my prescription, her tone noticeably shifted. She sounded curt and dismissive, and told me getting my prescription wasn't her department, even though the front desk is only steps away. When I later called back for an update, she answered again and was just as dismissive. I didn't feel confident my request would be followed through, and asked to speak with someone else. Her response made it clear that helping me was a burden. Ultimately, I had to make a third contact and visit the office in person to get my prescription. Even then, it wasn't signed by the doctor, and no one, including Collette, acknowledged the confusion or offered an apology. I've worked in customer service and wouldn't speak to any customer the way I was spoken to. I expected more from an office with such strong reviews and designer branding. Unfortunately, due to the unprofessional behavior I experienced, I won't be returning.
