This place is a precious gem. The food is phenomenal, the service excellent and the atmosphere lovely. If you wish there were still fabulous restaurants with white table clothes, real cloth napkins and a warm ambience...look no further than Chez Pierre. Tonight our party of four had the Shrimp Chez Pierre- think scampi but in a tasty batter loaded with a lovely garlic butter sauce, Steak Diane which was flamed at our table and the sole special of the evening. I can honestly say that the shrimp was the best I've had. The accompanying scalloped potatoes and beets were wonderful and the homemade apple cobbler with vanilla ice cream was huge, warm and delicious. The perfect fall compliment to the rest of the meal. My table all loved their meals and desserts were shared afterward. Honestly, we were so full that we probably shouldn't have ordered dessert but since we ate every bite I guess we found room. The perfect night....really lovely. If you have a special occasion or want to treat yourself to something delicious and mouthwatering that you'd never make for yourself at home- this is the place for you! 100% yummy! Finally made it to Chez Pierre - at the prompting of friends that recently discovered an advertisement for restaurant week. I'll start by saying that I'll definitely be back! (I usually wait until the end to declare this!) This is a family owned/operated restaurant and apparently it has been around for quite a while. The woman that was serving us had an "owner vibe" - so we asked her - affirmative! Her husband is the chef and they had someone call in last minute...so she was out there hustling and doing a phenomenal job. We also asked if it was hard to find help since that's what we're hearing from everyone these days. She said that she has a fabulous core group of staff but when one bails, it's tough. But she was a delight...and so was the food. The (restaurant week) menu had choices of either beet salad or soup of the day (which was cream of asparagus) - we all chose the salad. Perfectly portioned salad greens with just enough vinaigrette, beets and blue cheese crumbles. The bread basket was served with a variety of crackers and warm, sliced...slightly dense bread. My kind of bread. Butter pats were ice cold. The choices for main courses were Pork, Chicken or Beef; two of us had the Chicken Florentine, one had Pork Picatta and one had Beef tips Chasseur. My friend that had the Chicken Florentine said, "the coating was the BOMB". I completely agree since that's also what I ordered. The portions were significantly larger than what I expected for a restaurant week menu. Additionally, the chicken was tender and rolled with just the right amount of cheese and spinach in the middle....all topped with a "supreme sauce" (similar to hollandaise). The pork and beef dishes had rave reviews and I was told that the beef was cooked "exactly how it should be". Everyone had sides of scalloped potatoes and green beans to accompany the main dishes. Dessert? Mais bien sur!!! Three of us had the chocolate-raspberry trifle; one had the creme de menthe parfait (which I gladly polished off as a favor even though I didn't need the extra calories). What a lovely evening. We were there with our besties, so that always adds to a great experience. I did notice that the crowd was mostly much older and I'm not sure if that's simply because some of the dishes on the menu are what I would consider "old-fashioned" (ie: frogs legs, lobster Newburgh, beef Wellington....etc.) - or - we went on the earlier side. My husband and I returned to Chez Pierre for a much-needed date night after a busy work week for me. I want to add a few things to my previous review. Gone is the pate they used to serve with their bread basket. OK, I understand that the cost of food has gone up but I surely missed it. The bread in the bread basket was still cold (as mentioned before) and really should have been served warm in a fine dining restaurant. Just sayin'. I hope the owner is listening this time. This restaurant is the only place in our area where I have found truly authentic French cuisine. It's not right in town (which means I don't think about it often) but that is actually an attraction as parking in Saratoga Springs has become a real challenge. Chez Pierre, being north of town and away from the maddening crowds, has their own parking lot. I went full French with my dinner choices starting with Frogs Legs which were nothing short of delectable. And the Sweetbreads that followed were superb. While I am an avid cook, these are items that I would not think to venture making at home, and I can say without reservation that I would not be able to duplicate the delicious cream sauce that accompanied the Sweetbreads. My husband very much enjoyed his Coquilles St. Jacques appetizer and his Veal Cordon Bleu (they call it something else) entrée. I have to admit, I was sorely disappointed that they were out of Soft-Shell Crabs at 7:30 p.m. on a Friday night. This was my raison d'être for choosing Chez Pierre in the first place. We finished our meal with a lovely Crème Carmel that was light but slightly lacking in vanilla flavor. Perhaps I am being too picky, comparing it to my favorite dessert which is Crème Brûlée. Our server (Katy?) was very, very good. She gets 5 stars in my book. The net-net of this update remains the same. If you want authentic French food, then this is your place. I just wish they would take note of the bread situation, in particular. It might seem 'small' but it is a key note of a fine dining establishment which, otherwise, Chez Pierre checks off the boxes. read more

Well there were 9 of us for 2 birthdays. It rained that night so we were a little shaken by the weather and got there maybe 2-3 minutes late. The host seated us practically out the door. There were 2 waiters I guess that decided to come and take our orders for drinks and then later food. My granddaughter spilled her drink on the table and of course there was no waiter in sight to help us clean it up and they didn't even change the tablecloth! My daughter had to sit there the whole night with napkins in front of her!!! So, they took our drink and food orders, and everyone got pretty much what they wanted, I guess. It was hard to tell if they liked it or not because most of them don't like to complain. Especially my daughter and granddaughter!!! Anyway, the reason I am writing this is mainly that I ordered the Escargot appetizer and when they brought it out it was not very appetizing. It was not in the shell like I imagined it to be but in a small dish and just thrown together!! I guess shells are a thing of the past?? I also asked the waitress about the veal selections, and she had no idea which ones were a better choice! Also, being it was my daughter and my birthdays they didn't even bother to acknowledge them like I told them in my reservations!!! Not ever going back there!!! If you want a truly authentic French experience I can't think of a better place to go. Over the years I've had my favorite dishes (lobster newburg), but this year I was lucky enough to come twice in one week so we took advantage of the Price Fixed menu. WOW. For 40 dollars you get a salad (with my favorite blue cheese dressing), an entree (I had the steak tips Diane), and a dessert (caramel sundae)! Everything was amazing. I've been coming to Chez Pierre most of my life and I've never once had a bad experience. From the staff, to the food, to the owners who have become like family, I can't imagine ever going wrong here. There's a big sign walking in to the restaurant saying "Fine Dining". Don't believe it. The food was good, not outstanding and not fine dining. To be introduced to your food with packaged crackers and tasteless white bread was not a good start. I ordered the escargot. They came clumped together in a little dish with a coating of garlic butter. A weird presentation. They were okay tasting but nothing to remember. The steak au poivre was very tasty. They did a nice job with the sauce however it came medium and I ordered medium rare. The sides were good too. A little background, I've been to this place a couple times, and the food was AMAZING. The Henry steak they serve (filet mignon) is so juicy and perfectly seasoned. The other dishes like their lobster and other steak cuts are just as good. In addition to this the food is WELL worth the price as you get a side salad and side potato's. It wasn't until this Father's Day, that I had a bad experience. The service was VERY slow, (to be fair they were a bit understaffed it seemed and overbooked). Our server was so stressed out and overwhelmed and we waited an hour for our appetizer (a bit of a disappointment too) and an additional 35 minutes for our main course. The Filet Mignon, as usual was great, the duck special as well, but the chateaubriand was under seasoned. So overall I would give the food a 4/5 this time. (Usually a 5/5) but the wait was just unbearable. Unfortunately this Experience is taking away from a better review. So in conclusion, I recommend this restaurant but if you catch them on a bad night; it'll be a bad experience. read more

I had a fantastic experience at Chez Pierre. First, it's not stuffy - there were folks dressed up for a night out but there were also people dressed super casual. This place is for everyone. The prices reflect that too. High end items for a splurge or reasonably prices entree for a regular dinner. Cocktails were spot on, apps were generous. No vegan entree options but the one vegetarian entree (gnocchi with hearts of palm in butter sauce) was excellent. What's with the one- and two-star reviews?? It is a good thing I don't let Yelp reviews dictate my dining choices. This place is just outside Saratoga NY which leads me to believe people go in during the track season with very high expectations. A seasonal rush in a small restaurant will surely yield disappointment if you are expecting a flawless experience. That said, we were pleased to have found a restaurant with a menu that intrigued us within a reasonable drive from the house. So we went... and loved it! It's a house-like storefront set up that you would find in a rural upstate establishment. Charming. The décor is slightly dated. Neat murals and nicely painted dividers broke up the dining area. The tables were spaced per the pandemic expectations with interesting bourbon steins placed on the socially distanced tables not available for seating. The ceiling was due to be updated soon. The bar was underutilized as most are these days. We were seated after maneuvering several 'watch-your-step' moments as we walked to our table. The water glasses were filled, and a plate of pate was placed with a basket of bread and crackers. What an unexpected treat to enjoy as we looked through the menu. We had researched before we made reservations, so we were pretty much decided even without the menu. The cocktails we ordered arrived promptly prepared as expected. A plate of bacon wrapped scallops were enjoyed as we finalized our entrée choices, as well as a second basket of 'vessels' for the remaining pate on the table. My wife ordered a Pork Tenderloin Scallopini which was on the dinner special menu. Tender, well prepared medallions served with potatoes au-gratin and greens. I was on a mission to have Beef Wellington and ordered accordingly. We tried to make this at home and needed to have a reference to gauge our effort. The beef tenderloin was nicely seared and capped with a mushroom duxelle as well as a few generous slices before being wrapped in puff pastry. Served with very rich meddra sauce. We made a valiant effort at home, but this particular Wellington was perfectly executed. Chocolate Mousse ended the meal with a decaf cappuccino. The bill was right where we expected. Fantastic! I know we are all entitled to our opinions, but I really think some Yelpers use this forum simply to vent frustration. I like to share positive experiences especially when we can promote small local establishments. Chez Pierre has been here for a while and we hope they will be there for many years to come. Everything was amazing starting to finish. We came here for restaurant week and we haven't been here since Mother's Day. Had the French onion soup(so good) and the steak tip Diane. Wow, the sauce from this dish, I could've drank it. I will definitely be coming back to order that steak Diane dish. We finished with the chocolate mousse which was so light almost like it was whipped cream and the profiteroles. The former owner and mother (Pirette) of current owner, (Pia) were present as hosts and for dinner service. Allie was today's bartendress, just as lovely as Pia and Pirette. We were a party of five, service/excellent, food/excellent and cocktails/excellent. Do not bypass the onion soup. Paté and French bread served prior to meal time, superb. I went to Chez Pierre on Friday night for dinner with a friend. The food is delicious. I had a filet mignon whike my friebd ordered the triple seafood dish with a bechamel cream sauce. We both wished they served French style. They adapted to the American way of eating. If they served French style the salads and pate plate would come before the dessert. We enjoyed the birthday dinner we went there to enjoy. I give Chez Pierre a 9.5/10. read more

I am shocked to find bad reviews about this restaurant. My family has been coming here for over 20 years, and I am still blown away by their food. Started off with two of the most delicious martinis Saratoga has to offer (espresso and raspberry) and then got the reasonably priced $29 prix fixe menu, which came with a soup and a dessert. Not pictured here was the cream of mushroom soup, as well as the escargot appetizer we ordered. Also came with cinnamon ice cream with caramel topping. We ordered the chicken piccata and a pork dish with mushroom sauce. Food is delicious, service is top notch, drinks are great, and the ambiance is relaxing and elegant. Do yourself a favor and ignore the old bad reviews because this is one of the best restaurants in Saratoga. read more

After a convo that I'm a sucker for authentic French cooking I was introduced to Chez Pierre last year by people who've been coming here for more than 20 years. I'm eternally grateful. First up, Chez Pierre is an old school farmhouse style looking place inside and out. There's charm to that, at least in my book. There's a solid bar menu and has been paired with experienced mixology every time I've been there. The wine list, I think, is excellent with low, moderate and high end choices depending on your budget. Speaking to food, for an app (or meal), The French Onion soup, that I've had now 10 times, has helped me recharge at a molecular level. I find it to be perfectly balanced with tremendous flavor with high quality ingredients and prep. The only thing I've ordered so far, by recommendation first, as an entree personally (10 times) is the Steak au Poivre with the strip steak selection (medium rare) over the filet. It's that good. They finish this dish table side, flame, smell, sauces and serve traditional classic buttery side dishes as in carrots and scalloped potatoes. The people I've been here with have all described their other menu selections in the 'decadent' range. Desserts, like profiteroles... I usually take one or two decadent bites and then bring them home... sometimes with a second order. When I'm out of gas and need a knockout coma meal, this place is hard to beat. If they had hammocks I'd pay rent. read more

This is a very difficult review for me. I love french restaurants and this isn't a french restaurant, but a restaurant with a french name. They have a very very good wine list and mostly disappointing food. The coquilles St. Jacques was a mistake for them and me. It was gooey with cheese and the scallops and shrimp overcooked. Having had the same at Le Dome, I can safely say, it's a mistake. The Beef Wellington was long on pastry, overcooked and short on pate, but the sauce very good. The fillets with hollandaise and artichoke were good and the best of the night, but raw not rare. The wines are the home run here. The prices are inexpensive for what they are and delicious, and well selected, but the food was disappointing for me. If they updated their menu, put life into the food, I'd be there a few days weekly. I can only say have light appetizers and pray and order the wine. read more

It was our first time trying this restaurant. One word: Disgusting. Immediately upon entering the restaurant, we were assaulted with a foul odor that was somewhere between mildew and cat urine. We sat down at a cute table. We informed our server that it was our first time there and asked for a menu recommendation. "What is your favorite thing on the menu?" He could not name a SINGLE dish!! We were presented with a wine list that had almost NO French wines - so I ordered the Bordeaux. As we waited for our drinks, we perused the menu and found the prices to be in the STRATOSPHERE. (We eat out A LOT, and aren't shy about prices, but these were OUTRAGEOUS!) Our drinks came: The Bordeaux was corked and foul, and my husband's Manhattan was "funky." We were then presented a "bread basket" with a tiny nub of completely stale bread and RITZ CRACKERS individually wrapped in plastic. We said, "if this is an indication/forecast of what is to come we're leaving!" I don't mind paying very high menu prices for an excellent quality restaurant experience. Trying to think of where to begin with this place. I'll start with this - it is NOT a French restaurant. You can't slap frog legs and escargot onto your menu and consider yourself French. So first and foremost - do NOT come to this place and expect anything resembling a real French dining experience. The place opened in 1964 and hasn't changed since. You get that feeling, without a doubt, that you have stepped back in time. I'll let you decide whether that's good or not. I thought it was funny. You're surrounded by kitschy Eiffel Tower decorations and some staff which has probably been there since opening. I'll say this of them, they were very kind. Now for the food - the menu, as I said, is faux French. Really, it's just continental cuisine and the food was fine (with the exception of the creme brulee, which was quite poor at this "French" restaurant; eggy and a horrible texture). Service was a bit on the slow side (they did say they were short staffed that night), I appreciate any place that gives a dinner salad with entree, and the food was warm. Other than that, it was just fine. Something to eat, but not get excited about. I'm glad I had a gift certificate and didn't have to pay my own money for it. Honestly, I think the place could have potential. But they should take a trip across the Atlantic, familiarize themselves with authentic French cuisine and reinvent the old staple restaurant. My wife and I went here for Bastille Day, and it was okay, but not wonderful. The owner is a charming woman, and it was great hearing her sing Edith Piaf songs. We met for a family reunion at the Chez Pierre, which is a lovely restaurant close to the Lake Moreau State Park. The Chez Pierre is like family, as my great-uncle owned the restaurant, then called the " ChatterBox Cafe", back in the late 1930-40's and my father tended bar there when he was just 17. The bar, by the way, with the exception of the pet monkey who used reside behind the bar, remains the same as when my father worked there and the two lions outside the entryway were ones he "raced" when he was just a child. It is very quaint and I hope does not change! While Chez Pierre is slightly off the beat and track, it is well worth the trek from Saratoga. The staff was attentive and accomodating, allowing my father to enter through the kitchen to avoid the stairs at the entry. The service was slow but in keeping with the French style. There was a lovely pace to the meal. We were provided bread and pâté to begin our meal. The pâté was delicious though the bread just served as a conduit for the pâté, with little taste of its own. I had a lovely appetizer of escargot and the salad was fresh with local greens. Several people had the grenouille (frogs legs) and recommended them highly. The duck was succulent and surprisingly meaty and tender. Having recently prepared a duck myself, I can say with confidence that I much prefer to have one cooked for me! Others at the table enjoyed the broiled sea scallops and grilled salmon. My father enjoyed one of the specials, calves liver, which was prepared in keeping with his gluten-free diet. It is a French restaurant and there was not a lot of accomodation for those with a gluten-free diet but the staff was very attentive to the situation. Over all, the restaurant is an excellent choice both for its food and its atmosphere. read more

We went on Valentine's Day with a reservation for 2. We stood in the doorway for a while waiting for the hostess and an older lady to argue about the seating chart, it was awkward and began a very bizarre dinner experience. Overall the food was just bad. Very heavy handed with no finesse. The frog leg app was dry and tasteless and most of them went back to the kitchen uneaten. My husbands lamb rack was so under seasoned he ate barely any of it, but to throw that much lamb away would be a sin, so I recooked it at home the next night and jazzed it up. It was super rare (we ordered it MR) that thankfully it withstood an extra pan sear after being cut apart and seasoned. I was really looking forward to the steak Diane as I love old classics done well. But it was served with thick gravy that tasted like flour, nothing tasted of the familiar madeira sauce I was craving. The sides are all the same for each dish and served in dishes on the side and resemble mass produced cafeteria food. Absolutely no plating thought whatsoever, just scooped in a bowl and brought to the table. Our waiter was pleasant and the service was good enough, but it just couldn't outweigh the food, especially for the prices. We eat out frequently and rarely even look at the bill, we are very used to bills well over $100, but this just wasn't worth that. We had heard good things about this place and wanted to try something different, but this was just a miss. The bill was about $120 (without tip, and yes, we tipped properly anyway), and we had to stop somewhere else for dessert. read more
