Her warm smile and eager to please attitude was so welcoming. She pulled up a chair and shared so much about the food and her years at this restaurant. Spot on service!! We enjoyed the Large Shrimp with the cognac sauce. When the crawfish étouffée was brought out, the flavor was jaw dropping we could've eaten it like a soup. We hadn't visited Chez Jacqueline in years and decided to make the trip. As in the past, we were the only cu there. Jacqueline is charming and welcoming. You can tell she really enjoys people and wants to make them happy. We started with flambéed shrimp and french onion soup. The shrimp were delicious. It was a spin on New Orleans style barbeque shrimp and we really enjoyed them. The french onion soup was good, but a bit oversalted. The seafood platter was huge, it could have easily served a whole family. The fish and shrimp were very good, but unfortunately the stuffed crabs and crawfish were a bit fishy. My niece and I got a spontaneous lunch this Sunday at Chez Jacqueline's. We got to speak one on one with Jacqueline, who is from the area and talked a lot about her neighborhood and her dog. It was really friendly and welcoming. The waitress, I think her daughter, help my niece pick out a cut of steak and helped me get an etouffe. Our lunches were really yummy and the service really made you feel like you were family. We had cake for dessert. It was delightful. The flavor was finished with almond extract and it was truly divine. My boyfriend and I stopped for an early lunch on a Sunday. Only breakfast was available but we were not disappointed. We both had eggs Florentine with a side of grits and coffee. The eggs were perfectly poached and the spinach/artichoke Florentine sauce was delicious. Jacqueline and her granddaughter are both gems. This place is like eating with family. You feel welcomed and even a bit loved. I loved all the photos and homey charm of the place. I am soooo glad we got off I10 for a quick lunch & made new friends. She has also lived in both Alaska and Key west. Every meal is cooked to order by her. We enjoyed the Coquille STJaques and a French onion Soup. The Coquille was rich, flavorful, with a ton of seafood and a crunchy au gratin top. The onion soup was equally flavorful and probably the largest crock we had ever seen. This establishment has a few issues so this review is conflicted to say the least. I have eaten here before and the food was excellent. Mrs Jacqueline can defintely cook. It is a hole in the wall and almost classify it as a dive. Cleanliness is not the strong suit. Place is cluttered and kitchen is not spotless. Her food has always been fresh and good though. We absolutely love this restaurant. Ms. Jacqueline personally greeting and hugged us. She sat down and talked to us for a few minutes before taking our order. Although you have to wait a bit longer for your food, it's well worth it. There are restaurants where you eat, while others are a dining experience. This is that place. Don't be in any hurry when you get here, but that's OK. Food is cooked to order. The ambiance of the place is awesome. The food is great. I had fried eggs topped with crawfish etoufee'. There was a lot of crawfish, probably 3/4 pound. And great biscuits to sop up the juice. My wife had the omelet while the kids had beignets. One of our favorite places to eat. This place is a jewel. We were the only people in the restaurant. We were greeted by Jacqueline herself. She explained how she made everything to order. I order a crawfish bisque which was so good and hearty, it came with stuffed shells within the bisque. I also order the Lapin which made me nervous at first since I had never had rabbit before. But oh my lanta I'm so glad that mrs Jacqueline steered me in the right direction. The rabbit was so tender and succulent, the sauce is to die for and is served with rice and mushrooms which makes the plate well rounded. This is a must go to. This is a wonderful little restaurant. Jacqueline cooks everything herself so there is a bit of a wait for your food but it's definitely worth it. Family run, everyone here is nice and welcoming. Since I failed to write down what I actually ordered I can't get into specifics but I can say The food is delicious. I came with a large party and we ordered everything from the gumbo, rabbit, steak, French onion soup and other items I can't pronounce haha. Visiting from Texas. Had breakfast. Miss Jackie is just wonderful. Husband had Eggs Pont Breaux, daughters had eggs Benedict and sweet potato pancakes, I had the French muffin. We also ordered a plate of beignets. Everything was made to order, so it took a little longer, but the food was wonderful. Just the whole atmosphere of the place spoke to a homemade, down home feel. We will definitely be back. Let me also add, after reading some other reviews.....there are signs in the restaurant that inform you that this is not fast food, and if you don't have time to wait for a home cooked meal, go elsewhere. Yes, the service is slow, but by no means is it terrible, as other reviews have stated. If you are expecting to get in and out in an hour, you will be disappointed. But if you can handle a leisurely lunch or dinner, then you are in for a treat. Stick to the French dishes over the Cajun dishes, that's where Chez Jacqueline's strength lies. The French onion soup is quite possibly the best I have ever tasted, topping my previous favorite at Cafe Degas in New Orleans. Everyone talks about Cafe Des Amis, and it is certainly warranted, but if you have some time to kill, try out Chez Jacqueline as an alternative one and a while. read more

My mother and I ate here recently and had a wonderful experience. We came late for lunch, so the door was locked behind us and we were given very sweet and personal service by the owner. The food was outrageously good! I was surprised when our place was set and 3/4 of a stick of butter was put out for the two of us, but when the fresh baked french baguette was served I understood why. We had escargots for an appetizer, which she started on right away and came to us rather quickly. The entrees were exquisite, and one featured some of the tastiest and largest shrimp I have ever seen. All of the ingredients seemed to have been chosen with great care. The cognac and butter sauce was unreal. When the first baguette had been consumed (to my surprise), another was promptly served! It was a unique experience, certainly, and one I recommend! read more

We were going to another Breaux Bridge place for breakfast, but there was a line. We walked down a bit and found Chez Jacqueline's. Zydeco musician Donna Angelle was playing, she is fun & talented! Saturday morning breakfast with zydeco is awesome. Great atmosphere & staff. The only reason it doesn't have 5 stars is the wait. It is a small cook to order place, but I have been to similar places and did not have to wait and hour to get eggs. Our waitress was attentive, I am not sure what the issue is, but it seemed a bit excessive. After about 45 min we must have seemed fidgety, we were brought a fresh and warm loaf of French bread. Yummy. My husband had the eggs Benedict and I had the eggs with crawfish étouffée (I don't remember the name). The étouffée was awesome, I had to get more bread to sop up the awesome gravy. My husbands wasn't great, one of the eggs were very overlooked. With that being said we are quite likely to go back, next time we will get a snack first so we don't get hangry sitting there. There was an LSU game that afternoon, that may be why everyplace was so booked, and why we are now stuck in traffic, giving me plenty of time to write this epic review :) read more

Ordered the shrimp and crab quiche which came out with shrimp not cooked (they were grey) and the egg was not cooked under the browned cheese on top. The onion soup tasted like beef bouillon with toast. The owner came out and greeted the visitors from France but ignored our table and the other three American tables. Would avoid this restaurant unless you are visiting from France and would like to take a chance. read more

On our cross-country trip from California to North Carolina, we were lucky enough to stumble into Chez Jacqueline, owned by three generations of the kindest, most generous ladies you'll meet. They are the epitome of southern hospitality, especially in serving dish after dish of things my picky, road-weary toddlers would eat.
