Highly recommend to stop by Marais a very jewish neighborhood its very vibrant, cleaner than other neighborhoods and food is amazing here. We shared lamb chops platter. Meat was so juicy and tender, amazing side dishes. The ambience is so unique at this place, feels so cozy. We took some israeli wine which was perfect with lamb. I was sending photos to my husband that is in US and he is jewish, he said it looks like typical Israeli restaurant. Plate was enough for 2 people and with wine we payed for 2 less than 50 euro. Well the host was subtly rude when the language barrier came into play. You can only order sandwiches to go. This was actually our second choice for falafel and gyro sandwiches. The gyro was chicken, which I would not of ordered if I'd of known ahead of time. Fries/chips were the best part of the meal. I know most of the attention goes to the spot down the street, but really Chez Hanna is a small gem! Most people go for the falafel wrap, which can be ordered inside, then you go to the line outside with your receipt. Once it's your turn, you can choose your toppings but really, just go with everything. No spicy sauce here but I actually think the falafel at Chez Hanna is the best compared to the other spots on this small street. The falafel is just amazing and everything that they add really adds another level. There's also a sit down menu, which has a lot more items. Screw waiting in line for falafels at L'As du Falafel, the food at Chez Hanna would do more than help with your falafels-craving. Just get their vegetarian special, 5.5 Euro only for a big falafel sandwich and a slice of awesome eggplant on top. So good! The falafels are dry but the sauces in the slaw, salad and red sauces just compliments those fried goodies so well. I dare you to try at stopping after the first bite. While wandering the Marais & scoping out all of the falafel joints, Yelp led us to this gem! There was a cart whipping up express pitas & snacks that moved pretty quickly. (Menu has English translations as well.) Moving on to the food: SO TASTY! All 3 of us ordered falafel pitas. Sadly falaFELL short of my expectations. I had a falafel pita from the takeout window. A strong 2 stars for being edible, large, cheap (5.50 euros!! gasp) and fast. Very conveniently located in the Marais and next to an excellent crêperie. The pita and fillings were as cold as the man serving it to me. The eggplant was extremely oily. One of the 2 slices slid off and fell on the ground after a bite. Wasn't sad to see it go. The most important thing is that it was filling, and while it wasn't bland, it was pretty salty and generally mushy. Despite exchanging greetings, ordering, and doing my please and thanks all in French (and having exact change bc takeout is cash only!!), the man said something I didn't understand and then after I apologize and explain that I don't speak much French (in French) he quips "you don't speak French? When you're traveling abroad and attempting to ball on a budget, the easiest way to cut costs is to eat standing up instead of sitting down. Enter the Marais' old Jewish quarter, a lively area with rue des Rosiers serving as its anchor. The narrow cobblestone street gives way to several delis, Mediterranean eateries as well as galleries and boutiques. Still, I suspect most people wander through this jam-packed bottleneck for the food... and falafel, specifically! I know a good deal when I smell one, and because L'As Du Fallafel is closed on Saturdays (Shabbat) I headed to my place in line at Chez Hanna. The line moved pretty quickly, and soon I met the counter where I looked on as loads of crisp veggies were layered with what seemed like ball after ball of moist falafel. And then, there was sauce: both white and a spicy red. The verdict? Pretty damn glorious. I even went back a second time to try their much-hyped turkey shawarma, though admittedly I wasn't a big fan. Stick with the falafel and you'll have a fantastic, authentic and inexpensive meal. Sure, the service isn't as friendly as what you'll get at L'As du Fallafel, but you'll find that the line is usually much shorter and the difference in falafel quality is only negligible. I really don't know what else to say but this Falafel changed my life! Pretty much we spent over a half an hour trying to find this "falafel area" and when we finally found it, we could not be happier that there was actually a table available for us at Chez Hanna. We had a new york Jew in our group and he had to try a little hebrew on the waiter but no, he wasn't "from the land" as the saying goes. So, we had to order in English and were passed the Israeli menu. As my platter came out, my eyes opened and BAM, I could not stop eating. I seriously wipped that dish clean. Each part of the platter was amazing. It was fresh, flavorful, colorful and everything I could have hoped for and more. At our table, we also had a girl who just returned from Israel and said that the falafels were better here than in Israel. That's saying something! Fantastic Israeli joint for a good take away pita pocket. The falafel pita is only 6 euros (cheap food for Paris!) and it can fill you up for a full day. They put the best hummus I've ever had in toasted pita, add a salad of carrots, cucumbers, and cabbage, use this amazing sauce like a middle eastern salsa, put in tzatziki, add FANTASTIC falafel, and then top it all with roasted eggplant.
