He needs some lessons in being kind and helpful. The food was bland and way overpriced. Only the eggplant parmigiana was worthy of eating. The rest tasted liked canned spaghetti. The cocktails were watered down versions of what you could get elsewhere. The service was very poor. When you wanted something, you had to make contact several times and maybe they would help. Tourist trap. It's right on the beach so that's the only thing going for it. There are other restaurants with much better views higher up. Also, this place charges each person a 4 Euro "cover charge" without announcing it until you look at the check; which also states "no service fees were added so tips are appreciated". Why a cover charge? No live music....nothing....at least give a reason. Food was mediocre and quite expensive. The service was very slow even though the restaurant was only 1/3 full. Never in my life have I had such an argumentative waitstaff. We got seated at the same time as another couple who were on their entrees before we got our appetizers. Took us about 1.5 hours. When our appetizers arrived my husbands octopus was cold and my tomato mozzarella was terrible (see photo of not ripe tomato's). We complained about the time it took us to get our food as well as the quality. The "manager" said ok and did nothing, left the food sitting in front of us and went to play with his friends. Never got us new appetizers as requested. We then got out entrees (solid pizza and terrible spaghetti and seafood). When the check came we let them know we were not properly compensated which resulted in the wait staff fully yelling at my husband and I being wildly defensive. What a place Chez Black is! It really exceeded expectations. Normally there seems to be an inverse relationship between restaurant location and quality of cuisine. However, Chez Black trumps the norm. They have an outstanding location, right on the waterfront, and the food is phenomenal. We had a BIG group and they were able to secure us a table without issue (an impressive feat as the place was busy!) - not only that, but we had more friends show up and they set them up at a table just behind our large one! From that point on the service was top notch and the food was delicious. Not one person in our whole group had anything other than rave reviews when we left. Everything, from start to finish, at CB is aces. The dining room is large and airy, the staff is on point, the food is fresh, and the bathrooms are exquisite. Positano is one of our favorite places in the world, and this trip is never complete with at least a couple of evenings spent eating delicious authentic Italian food at Chez Black. There is a fresh seafood bar on ice where you can choose your favorite fish to be prepared for you as well as a diverse menu of delicious plates and salads to choose from. The owner (in the photo below) is always there, making sure all is running smoothly. Every trip when we come here we see the same friendly staff faces. The view is spectacular facing the Mediterranean ocean, and the drink menu and wine list is top notch. I've seen this restaurant in many YouTube videos in Positano and was so excited to try this restaurant right in the piazza. Love the marine clothed waiters, very charming and somewhat friendly. We ordered seafood of course. I selected spiny lobster and my husband chose a fish. They took us to chose the actual fish on ice, they weighed and calculated the cost the fish right their on the spot so there is no questions on price of seafood. We ordered fried anchovies, but felt they need seasoning and longer frying tone to make them extra crispy to the bite. My lobster came with a lemony butter, did not care for it. Just butter would have been better. We had burrada caprese salad, very good. I also ordered spaghetti à oil Dee-lish !! White wine to accompany the meal amazing. We would come back. read more

Didnt want this to be what this review is about but the service really made me a feel that because ny wife and I were asian, they tend to look past us. Never have we experienced such RUDE service! Seated right at lunch time opening. The female server (blonde) kept telling the couple next to us to wait to order. She intentionally waited on others. Chez black is a great place to go to in Positano. Definitely make a reservation, place has a fun vibe to it and great views. Started off with their Burrata, very tasty. We got a pizza Bianca Al Prosciutto, very good. I had wanted to try a cuttlefish ink pasta while in Italy and they do it justice. Very flavorful and quite messy, they do give you a bib, try to be careful when eating it, it's worth it. Finished off our meal with Limoncello, a definite must do when in the Amalfi area. The place may seem kind of touristy, but it is very fun. read more

Chez Black is a spectacular restaurant is Positano. The service, food, and and ambiance were all amazing. Chez Black is a little bit pricey but definitely worth it. In terms of food, everything that we ordered was delivered. The pizza had a great consistency and was shaped into a heart which made it very unique. We ordered the margherita pizza which they made very well. All of the entrees and pastas were phenomenal as well. The chicken breast and fillet were both cooked to perfection and well seasoned. The gnocchi and cuddle fish ink pasta are also both great pasta options as well. The cuddle fish ink pasta is very unique, and it is definitely worth trying it out since you won't get it at many places. The eggplant Parmesan is a fine dish as well. The food came in good sized portions given the price you are paying. Overall, the food was phenomenal and worth the price. The service is great as well. The staff was friendly and attentive throughout my meal. They also brought out the food fairly quickly as well. The location of Chez Black is unbeatable. It is located right on the beach facing the sea. I would definitely recommend making a reservation so you can secure a table with a good view of the water. This restaurant was recommended by a friend who heard it was great. To ensure a table, we made reservations for two. It is located right by the beach and close to the Positano ferry. There were many pictures of celebrities who enjoyed a meal here and it must be the place to be seen and we had very high hopes for an amazing dinner. We started off with sharing an Insalata Misto and fried calamari which was very good. My friend ordered the special pasta with lemon sauce and I ordered the pizza with tuna and capers. The pasta tasted like pasta with some olive oil; we could not taste any lemon. It was like just eating plain pasta; the restaurant was kind to replace this dish with spaghetti and meatballs; this dish was also disappointing because the meatballs were dry. Overall this dish was nothing special. My pizza with tuna was ok; soggy in the middle. Not much tuna or capers on it, but was ok. This is our personal experience and perhaps the restaurant had an off night. We did not have any alcohol and our beverage was sparking water. Our bill came out to over 100 Euros. The location right in town is fantastic and you have a wonderful view of the beach and yachts. When I was planning our trip to Positano I searched for the best restaurants in the area and Chez Black was on the top 10. Once we got to Positano I asked our car driver for restaurant recommendations and he also said Chez Black without hesitation. So we decided to eat there as soon as we settled into our room. We walked to the restaurant from our hotel and found it to be right by the beach. Beautiful restaurant in a beautiful setting but not so beautiful staff. Took us about 5 minutes to get someones attention and finally when a young lady approached us and asked if we had reservations. We didn't but she was able to sit us cause the place was half empty. Once we were seated we waited good 20 mins or so for our waiter. He gave us menus, took our drink order and disappeared for another 15 mins. We kept on asking other waiters to call him to take our order which he did unpleasantly after another 10 mins. We were starving after a long trip from Rome. Finally our food came after being there for an hour. And what do we get? Nothing special, no flavor, small portions, very high prices. We left hungry. The only good thing about waiting so long was the beautiful views which we later discovered that there are many places in the area with better views and amazing food. This place is a tourist trap. Probably the worse meal of our whole trip to Italy. But as tourists we always get in a trap at least once or twice. So save your money and go someplace else. read more

Tourist Trap!! We were so hungry we decided to take a chance and eat at Chez Black. We regret the decision. The food wasn't good and the pricing was insane. 27 euro for spaghetti that tasted straight from the can. Also they charge a cover charge ..what?? Service is not included either. Great quality food and fresh ingredients on the main beach in Positano. Yes it's a little overpriced and yes lots of tourists but tourists are everywhere in Positano. We went there once for dinner and once for lunch. Both times amazing service and food with Peppe our main server. Great atmosphere, very clean and great people watching. Pizza is the best one on the coast, we have tried several in Positano. Pasta, especially Chez lobster specials are out of this world. Make sure you get home Made pasta. Their baked white fish with potatoes was good too but something you can make yourself at home.. and the gnocchi, well let's just say it tasted microwaved. When I kindly asked the waiter if I could switch out the gnocchi for something else, he went nuts and started yelling in italian. I ordered the rocket salad and the arugula leaves had holes all over them. Back home I have arugula salads 2-3x a week and I have never seen such a thing.. I was convinced that the waiter got pissed and asked the kitchen to serve me their arugula from last week.. I researched arugula with small holes all over it and learned that the holes come from flea beetles feeding on plant foliage and spreading disease. That was the end of our dinner. read more

My friends and I visited Positano during off-peak season. This meant that most of the restaurants in the area were closed. Unfortunately, Chez Black was one of the few that were open. One of my friends cannot have gluten and we were disappointed to find out that they do not have any gluten free pasta options. We each ordered our own entree and shared a grilled mozzarella in lemon leaves. I got the spaghetti with wild clams and my friends ordered the seafood spaghetti, baked white fish with potatoes, and the pasta special of the day. The best thing was probably the seafood spaghetti, but even then, it wasn't amazing. The grilled mozzarella was basically warm rubbery cheese. The lemon leaf added nothing. It just sounded cool. The worst thing about the meal was that our friend who ordered the pasta special ended up with a huge bite of sand in his last bite. This was the most expensive and disappointing meal we had while traveling around Italy. read more
