Came as part of 11,500 mile foodie road trip. Man v food stop and came to try the Indian taco. The dough was fun and came off as an open faced chalupa. The toppings gave it a taco salad vibe in a bread bowl. Everything tasted solid...just found the beef to be a bit basic...almost a diced chili. Super friendly staff!

My sister and I visited Cheyenne Crossing for the first time this afternoon. We read so many good reviews and we thought we just have to try it, seeing that we were staying at the Spearfish Canyon Lodge down the street. We were very disappointed! We ordered a side of onion rings for $10.99, and you got seven onion rings on a bed of seasoned fries. We ordered onion rings because we wanted onion rings, not seasoned fries. We wouldn't have ordered the onion rings if we knew that we were just getting a half order of onion rings with fries. I ordered the barbecued rib starter, which came on a bed of season fries. I thought the ribs were good. My sister ordered a buffalo burger that was very dry. It came with regular french fries. They were also incredibly dry! We won't be back.

The Indian Tacos and pancakes are the two of many reasons why people keep coming here to eat, but can we just take a moment to celebrate the carrot cake served here!!! It is decadent! Dave knows how to run a restaurant and is a master at food presentation as is evident by the people lined up to eat here! Don't be in a hurry, just sit back, enjoy your food, and be prepared to want to come back!

Literally located in the middle of nowhere! Best Indian Flatbread Tacos in the universe!

I forgot the name but it served with a warm strawberry sauce

Excellent!! A great ending to a beautiful drive on the spearfish scenic byway. We had the Indian tacos and were not disappointed.

What's their prices like?

Prices for meals are on par with family casual restaurants. Not expensive. Considering the location and the tourist factor, very reasonable.

Oh, and check out the cookbook of local dishes to help eradicate the pine beetle that is infesting Spearfish Canyon.

Looking to have lunch before our hike to Spearfish Falls. The Latchstring Resturant is just feet…read moreaway. So warm and inviting. Like dining in someone's cabin. We decided to dine inside however there was outside seating available. Even a glass bubble to dine in for $10 per person per hour. I ordered the grilled chicken wrap with fries. Sandwich tasty with chucks of chicken. The fries were not very hot or fresh. My husband ordered a garden salad with trout on top. He loved his fish. Stated it was seasoned perfectly. Waitress was sweet and service was good.

Worthwhile (and only) meal choice within Spearfish Canyon. Fortunately for all the Lodge occupants,…read morethis restaurant is open 7 days a week and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Upon arrival, I was immediately seated and serviced at my choice of location - if a favorable climate prevails always choose the outdoor patio with magnificent canyon views (see pics). The hugh baked trout was draped on a Garden Salad and was fantastic. This selection was a welcomed alternative to Steak and/or Hamburgers! Additionally, the grilled chicken wrap was flavorable however the string French Fries were extremely thin and too crispy (overcooked). After eating, feel free to work off your calories with a short and easy .75 mile hike to the canyon namesake: Spearfish Falls located right behind the restaurants.

The good news? They are open longer hours than many of their downtown Rapid City peers. The bad…read morenews? The food is pretty mediocre and they are understaffed. We arrived around 7:30. (Hey, Yelp! This part of SD is in MST, not Central!!!) The hostess said we could site outside by the fireplace but that there was only one waitress for that area. Sadly, the other restaurants in the area were either full or closed on that Wednesday, so we took our chances. Service was slow. The waitress was very nice but overwhelmed. They have a kids menu, which is nice. They have a decent beer list. Lots of local options. I had an okay sour beer from the Sturgis area. The kids loved being able to have frozen mocktails. I tried their reuben. They claimed it's Rapid City's best, but if that's it's best, don't order a reuben in Rapid City. It wasn't awful, but it wasn't great. Just bland. Not enough sauerkraut. The thousand island dressing (served on the side by default) was pretty good but salty. I had a side of broccoli, which I thought was a nice option, but it was bitter and undercooked. My husband had the pork schnitzel meal, which he thought was okay. He liked being able to order mashed potatoes as an option. Thankfully, we sat by the TV, and there was a dog show going on. Seeing all those exotic purebred dogs kept my family distracted while we waited for the food.
