I'm broken down with a flat tire at their gas station. I just asked to borrow a tire iron lug wrench in front of their shop. They said they can't help unless I want to pay them to change the tire. I have the spare, I have the jack, I am perfectly capable but my new vehicle is missing the lug wrench. Zero help or compassion, way to be a good person! read more

Wow, my husband and I were on a trip to Tahoe. We got a screw in one of our back tires while on vacation. We were just at a parts store they told us to go down to Chevron. We drove in. The guy was working on a car in the garage. The lady running the place, said " I am so sorry. We can't help you he's working we can probably help you tomorrow." The young Hispanic, and that was working on the car in the garage came out and said "I am waiting on parts. I can't do anything right now I can fix the tire." We were thrilled. They took her phone number. He started working on it right then told us to come back in a half an hour or they will call us when it was ready. About 15 minutes later we got a phone call. We could walk up the street for food. We assumed it was gonna be really expensive since I was kind of an emergency. We were only charged $30 and in an out within 30 minutes let us continue on with our fun trip. There is no way we would've made it back to the other side of town to our hotel with a screw in our tire losing air fast. I wish I would've got the young man's name. I've been a customer for nearly 10 years (not anymore obviously). Most service (basic oil changes) has been fine... except for one - they never put the oil fill cap back on. I found that out while jumping a broken down rig - the guy I was helping out said "hey, you don't have a cap on your oil.." that was about 1,200 miles after the last change. TCC addressed it - they found the cap in the engine compartment - right where the mechanic had left it. I've had two other incidents; one where I got my truck back, and the check engine light was on when I pulled away. I went back the next day and was told (by Dave - who is a really good guy) that "the lights coming on aren't my problem...". I was shocked he said that to me, didn't see that one coming. Next, I get another oil change, and for the second time they recommend new front brakes. Fine, go ahead, get it done. I get the truck back and my E-Brake light is on, as well as the ABS light. I got the same response..."not our problem.." I walked away in disbelief. Please don't accept that response as I did. Make them tend to it. I just left - in shock - and won't ever go back. There aren't many options in TC, and they're clearly well aware of that fact. It pains me to be so negative on them, as 80% of the work they've done has been problem free. My 'idiot lights' are still blazing away (ABS and E-Brake). I'll never go there again, and will certainly dissuade others. read more

Had a flat from a pothole on a snow storm day. They were closed on Sunday, but first thing Monday I went in to see if they can get a new tire on. At first they said they didn't have the size for my car so then I started calling other places to find somewhere that has it. Right as I was pulling out of the chevron to get on my way, the guy ran up to my car and told me to wait a second while they double and triple check. I bought snow chains at local hardware store. They referred me to chevron to install them. My wife and I went to chevron they looked at me then at each other said we already are off the clock. They were open for another 20 minutes, I even pointed this out to them. My wife explained my situation that we couldn't get to cabin without them and that I injured myself in industrial accident I couldn't do it. The female who worked inside looked at my wife then the two workers and walked away. They just said no we don't do that and we are off work. My wife told them we are willing pay them extra they said no. Luckily I went back to hardware store and worker did it for me. I'd give these guys 10 STARS if I could. Especially, Alex. While checking out after getting new tires installed/balanced, and all the normal fluids/oil replaced, Alex pulled out a cracked fuel filter that he replaced. He whipped out a light and showed me exactly where the crack was and why he recommended that it be replaced. I thought, "these guys are under new ownership" (surprised at the level of service). Then, Alex offered to show me the new one that he'd replaced. I took him up on it and we walked to my truck. Then he got down on his back in the puddled water and ice to show me the replaced part and why it was a good $60 investment. Finding this level of service/professionalism is next to impossible to find these days. So refreshing!! Especially from a young man. read more

I drove in this morning without a reservation with concerns about one of the 4 tires I bought there 11 months ago. They were busy. We use the Tahoe City Chevron for oil changes, and tire service. Customer service has always been excellent. They will even pour the DEF fluid into my truck for me, which is a huge plus since that stuff is NASTY! I've found their prices on tires to be competitive with other local businesses, and they even fixed my wheels (Forester) when Les Schwab told me that I would have to buy a whole new set, because the seal bead was pealing off and causing leaks. Even had them smog our newest vehicle. Definitely recommend Tahoe City Chevron for basic auto and tire care. read more

Went for an oil change, not only did it cost $91. The "mechanics" who (didn't even have uniforms on, just normal street clothes) left my Land Cruiser covered in grease and oil. When i asked them to clean it they did a half ass job to the point where I had to take the cleaning products out of their hands and do it myself. NEVER GOING BACK. I made two separate trips and called in twice to have my oil changed, only to be barked at by the head mechanic, wait in an line, spend 7 minuets giving him the spelling of my name and address, only for him to make a call and tell me that they don't have the oil filter in stock to change my oil. If I wen't hurried off the phone when i called 10 minuets earlier to specifically ask if they could change my diesel oil today, maybe they could have actually checked instead of making me drive there in person, in the snow, to be treated like an inconvenience to their business. (Even the man in line next to me comment on how "unhappy" both the mechanic and the cashier looked). Rude does not even begin to describe how i was treated. We have a business fleet account with this Chevron and I am so glad we do! Their customer service and attention to detail are impeccable. Laura is always cheerful and greets me with a smile and is always one step ahead of me in terms of what I need to have happen next. She's awesome! Seeing her always improves my day and she helps me to expedite any work errands I'm running. David is always friendly and willing to give advice on maintenance issues. I never knew I could like a gas station or service station so much! (I've definitely never written a Yelp review for one, that's for sure!) And in comparison to the Shell station that's next door...there IS NO COMPARISON. Sometimes I have to go in there because the Chevron doesn't have a car wash and it's like the polar opposite of the awesomeness that happens at the Chevron. I feel badly for any tourists who accidentally pull into that Shell station instead of the Chevron because I can't imagine any locals would return to the Shell station after being there once. These guys shot me straight when we had a breakdown up in the mountains. They took our Honda apart, figured out what was wrong, and realized that the job was a risky one for them to do (if messed up, could ruin the engine block). On their own, they checked the web and realized that the broken part was actually part of the Honda recall program, called me, and explained that we should ship it to the dealer, at Honda's expense. They ended up being correct. They put the car back together and when we got there with the tow truck, we asked the owner how much we owed him & he said "we're not going to charge you for this". It was a more-than-reasonable thing to do...considering they checked it out, then put it in the garage, then took it apart, then researched online, then put it back together. In the process, i spoke with Luis, Fernando, David, and Bill. They were each competent, friendly, and were spot on with their diagnosis. And they did it for free. Somehow, they got a bad yelp rap so far, but they certainly did right by us..and were the only place open over the weekend in tahoe city. read more

When I left after explaining the work that needed to be done 3 times he then followed me out of the store to then harass me as I was walking away. Yesterday morning, we were leaving Truckee super early to make it back home to the Bay Area without any road closures. Unfortunately the 80 closed and we were re-routed down to the 89 to connect to the 50. The conditions were so bad. At times it was white out. After driving for almost 2 hrs, there was a huge sign that said Emerald Bay was closed that would lead us to the 50. (What?! Where do we go now? We are going to be stranded in the middle of this snow storm) After filling up some gas during the blizzard, I went inside to use the facilities and hoping to find another route without having to drive back up to Truckee, which was absolutely horrific. So glad I asked the attendant. He told us to take 28, which was right ahead of us and go around the Lake down to South Lake Tahoe to connect to the 50. Well, that was our only option. He even called Caltrans to make sure the 50 wasn't closed or we'd just be stuck. He assured us that there are places to stay near Heavenly, which we were also familiar with. So thankful for the attendant for leading us the right way during am extremely stressful time, especially with family in tow. Although the blizzard was a complete nightmare, we eventually made it home unscathed. Thank God we stopped at Chevron. read more

While visiting Tahoe this past Memorial Day weekend, I ran over a big nail that embedded itself into one of my tires. I stopped into this Chevron and was told they could patch it up for a reasonable ($25) fee, though the wait time would be three hours since there were a few cars in front of me for service. They called me back maybe an hour later saying my car was ready! All around great customer service, and on a holiday weekend I was grateful they were there. read more

Wow, I am surprised no one else has reviewed this place. I would give it one star, but I'm being nice because they do have a decent price to switch tires (snow tires to summer tires and vice versa), and they do have good prices for gas and don't charge the holding fee like the Shell next door. Okay, that being said - this place is definitely a one star or less for all other automotive repairs, and I am serious. On multiple occasions, they have had no friggin clue what is wrong with my car, but decided to make up some b.s. and try to charge me. At the end of my last car's life, they actually charged me almost $300 for the car to break down in an intersection a week later (where I had it towed back to Chevron), and one employee admitted to "jerry rigging" it. Ummm... I'm sorry but who the F wants to pay $300 for a jerry rig? They proceeded to tell me the car was unable to be fixed... I asked for the $ back, but nope. And not only that... they still charged me the regular price to put my snow tires on the new car, even though they basically admitted they had screwed me over... Stay Away! These guys are the worst. They broke a part on the car while repairing another. Then they told us they "found" another problem and had the part on order. Of course, the replacement part for the one they broke didn't arrive as planned and we were stuck without our car for an extra three days. Finally, we took the car back and brought it to a much better repair shop and got it running again. Tahoe City Chevron cost us an extra $500 in repairs, the use of the car for our entire trip, and an extra 8 hour day fixing the problem they created...and this didn't bother them in the least. read more

So frustrating! Was told during an oil change I needed new brake pads. Purchased them and then they squealed like crazy! Took my car back in and they said nothing was wrong, sometimes they just squeal. But, maybe new rotors would help. Got new rotors. Didn't help. People would turn their heads when I stopped because it was sooooo loud! Took my car to another shop and they said - "Bring it back! They installed really cheap pads. That's the problem. Our brakes were acting up and the tow truck operator recommended this service station. The next morning they checked out the car - brakes, fluid etc. and test drive the car. David the manager informed us that they could not find a problem and we should take it back to the dealer to reset the computer system- and that it was safe to drive. Worst customer service I have had in a long time! I brought them some mount and balance work for my truck. Javi told me my tires wouldn't fit and I needed spacers. I bought the spacers then went online and found the tires were actually smaller than my current tires. I wasted money and time on spacers I didn't need. I came back and politely pointed out that I didn't need spacers and could I get them mounted. The manager David said let me get my tire guy, Javi. Javi walked out and said "What's the problem?" After I explained again Javi then stated "whatever, you can get the tires mounted and it will be your problem!" I asked him to please be polite. He made additional rude comments and walked away. Maybe Management should not let him talk to the public! I won't even buy gas let alone tires or tire work from Tahoe City Chevron. I see now I should have looked at Yelp as there are countless bad reviews. read more
